‪#‎BlackAugust‬ - Stokely Carmichael, the Trinidadian-American activist, was one of the most prominent figures in the Civil Rights Movement. He was the leader of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, an ‘Honorary Prime Minister’ of the Black Panther Party, and a leader of the All-African People’s Revolutionary Party.

Carmichael was elected the national chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee in May, 1966. But by this time, he had lost faith in the non-violent ideals of Martin Luther King Jr. and radicalized as he began propagating the doctrines of Malcolm X and the importance of “Black Power.” The term that quickly became popular among the young black radicals at the time. Internationally too, “Black Power” became a slogan of resistance against the European imperialism in Africa.

“When you talk of black power, you talk of building a movement that will smash everything Western civilization has created.”

What do you look for in a ship partner?

Maturity I guess?? Not meaning they have to be of age or anything ( I don’t particularly care for smut, and Carmichael is not rly a sexual individual ), but I guess in a sense that I want to RP ships in realistic ways. Let’s RP money struggles and miscommunication.  Toss in some conflicting views on sex and religion or other things.  Let’s RP them moving in together and one being so disgusted by the way the other lives lmao.  Idk if maturity is the right term for that though?? I dunno.

Also someone w/ patience bc I’m in school and it takes up a lot of my damn time, so I may not be able to sign on and do things everyday.  Also patience bc I like to take ships slow.   ALSO long threads?? And multiple threads. I don’t know.

I’m honestly kind of flattered people are interested in shipping their muse with mine.  When I first created him, I never expected him to be a catch.  So thank you.

Reasons why Susie Carmichael is one of the greatest Black Cartoon Characters of all time

Her character was voiced by Cree Summer who played Freddie Brooks on A Different World.

She introduced culture to white suburbia.

Taught the babies all of the popular black dances.

And maybe even showed them a thing or two about cooking.

She was perpetually unbothered by Angelica’s nonsense.

Literally. Her shade-throwing skills surpass any other three-year-old.

But she was never afraid to cry.

Demand what she wanted.

Be a leader.

Get angry for the cause.

Defend the babies from Angelica.

Or anybody else who tried to mess with them.

Immensely talented.

And, smart AF. She could speak 10 languages by the time they were in high school.

Susie was just a magical black girl.

Carmichael: You are powder blue

Your dominant hues are green and blue. You’re smart and you know it, and want to use your power to help people and relate to others. Even though you tend to battle with yourself, you solve other people’s conflicts well.

Your saturation level is low - You stay out of stressful situations and advise others to do the same. You may not be the go-to person when something really needs done, but you know never to blow things out of proportion.

Your outlook on life is bright. You see good things in situations where others may not be able to, and it frustrates you to see them get down on everything.

When it comes to racism, the government claims that they don’t have the power to change people’s feelings. That’s an excuse they make. Something they do have power to do is stop racists from doing their discriminatory acts to people of color. The racism in society continues because some get into positions of power and justify racist actions of citizens. To stop the racism, blacks must get the racists in power evicted while also getting the blacks who support their people into power.

Are you insane? White, British. And she’s a salesman's daughter!

Watch the first official trailer for Amma Asante’s A United Kingdom, led by Rosamund Pike and David Oyelowo with Tom Felton, Jack Davenport, Nicholas Lyndhurst, Laura Carmichael and Arnold Oceng.

The drama tells the inspiring true story of Seretse Khama, the king of Bechuanaland (modern Botswana), and Ruth Williams, the London office worker that he married in 1948 in the face of fierce opposition from their families and the British and South African governments. Seretse and Ruth defied family, apartheid and empire — their love triumphed over every obstacle flung in their path and in so doing they transformed their nation and inspired the world.

The movie will open the 60th BFI London Film Festival on October 5th, and will be released in U.K. theaters on November 25th.
