I can’t figure out how to pronounce ø correctly 😭 any suggestions?
hello! Ø can be a pretty tricky sound to learn, but like any new sound it just takes a lot of listening and practice! here are some things that might help:
this is a video by Norwegian Teacher - Karin where she demonstrates how to pronounce Æ, Ø, and Å
this is Forvo, a website where you can hear words pronounced by native speakers. listen to the word being pronounced, then practice saying it yourself
there’s not really a direct English equivalent to the Ø sound, but it’s similar to the U in “hurt”. the best thing you can do is listen to more spoken Norwegian so you know how a native speaker would make the sound, and then just practice and practice some more!
what can really help with practicing pronunciation is singing along to a song, it can help take away the pressure of feeling like you have to say the right thing and let you just enjoy yourself, but you’re still learning while you do it!
lykke til! :D (anyone else, feel free to add advice if you have any!)
