@my vertically challenged trans brothers and nonbinary pals, I’ve got some nifty gear to show you.

How could I forget, I got these handy dandy mothersuckers in the mail last week and wanted to make a little post about them.

They’re inserts for your shoes solely for the purpose of making you taller! Listen, I’m like.. 5'3" maybe 5'4" if I really stand up straight and slouch 0%. Not a tall guy in the slighest, pretty small actually. It never use to bother me very much, but in the last few months to a year, with realizing I’m Not A Girl and becoming more hyper aware of how people view me, it’s become something of an issue. I’m 23, puberty was over a long time ago and even if I ever decide to go on T, I’m not getting any bigger.

A few months ago I came across a post on tumblr about height inserts and boy has it been on my mind ever since. So I did a little research. I got this pair through Sears’ online store, because apparently height inserts can’t be found in person in any store? I checked. If you know of any, feel free to add them to this post- I know not everyone can order things online. There were a few different brands and types, these were from a company called CE Compass Inc. The height is adjustable - it came with 3 different pieces for each foot, so I can basically be 1, 2, or 3 inches taller, depending on how many I put in. It’s probably not that exact, but pretty close. If you put in two levels, you really should be wearing high top shoes or boots or else your foot will be falling out. Anything more than 2 levels hasn’t worked out for me very well. But I can still get up to a solid 5'6".

I was nervous about getting them because the reviews were totally mixed. Some people said they were great, some said they were terribly uncomfortable, didn’t even work, didn’t fit in their shoes etc etc. But it cost me $7 bucks, so the risk wasn’t huge. They are SO COMFY. I was expecting to feel like I was walking on rocks, but they’re surprisingly squishy? Not quite like walking on clouds, but bearable. I walk fairly often, holding kids, pushing strollers. Sometimes I walk 1-2 miles straight. And I’ve had barely any issue so far. The more height you add, the more it’ll strain your feet and legs. I was able to go for a lengthy walk with 2 inserts added without getting uncomfortable until the end. I’d say if you think you’ll be walking a considerable amount, use less height to stay on the safe side. Or just take the extra inserts out if you get tired, since they can just slip right out.

The most important part, I actually ALMOST have some confidence for once 😮. I mean, I still haven’t had top surgery yet, and that’s going to be a complete game changer in the confidence region, but listen. Feeling taller feels so nice???? My girlfriend and I are the same height normally, being an inch or two taller than her is cute, walking by grown ass men in public and thinking “holy shit I’m taller than him” feels good, standing next to cis men I know personally and looking at them eye to eye, feels good. The top of my head actually meets the top of my fridge now. Even if there’s no one else around, I FEEL bigger. And especially on days when I’m feeling pretty down on myself and don’t think I’m “passing” well, the boost is such a relief.

So, if your height is an issue for you and you feel totally defeated that you aren’t going to grow anymore, I highly suggest something like this. It may not seem like much, I have to admit “1-2 added inches” didn’t sound very impressive to me at first. But the difference IS noticeable, to me at least. Hope this can help someone else out too!
Don’t Judge A Book By Its Cover

Summary: You being the strongest hunter in the state was quite unbelievable for Ketch. It was time to prove him your strength, only didn’t you know how much it turned him on.

Today was the day Arthur wanted to take you out for some hand-to-hand combat to see if you were as tough as you always said. He didn’t believe you. He thought you were weak and couldn’t even stand a fight against him. How wrong he was.

Years and years of training have made you one of the strongest hunters in this state. You had fought different kinds of hunters, all because they wanted to see how strong you really were. None of them was ever able to win over you. And though Ketch was warned, he wouldn’t listen, insisting on fighting you himself.

You decided you would give him the satisfaction of being right at first and then when he least expected it, you would turn to full force.

Normally a copy of Langston Hughes’s Shakespeare in Harlem like this wouldn’t be the type of book we acquire. It’s the third printing, its dust jacket is long gone, and the cover well-worn.

But it’s also an excellent example why you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover!  This appears to be Hughes’s own copy of the last edition of this book issued during his lifetime. Not only that, Hughes made changes to fifteen of its poems, some of them dramatic shifts in the tone, rhythm, length, or meaning of the text.

This copy turned up in a sorority house at Lincoln University (Hughes’s alma mater) a couple of years ago, from which it was sold at auction and entered the rare book trade. Much about the volume remains to be discovered.  The changes that Hughes made in this volume have not been published or incorporated into any of the later editions of Hughes’s collected works or poems.

I fixed the problem with my amazon lol I made a new acct and figured out some settings, so new version of this post: my 18th birthday and high school graduation are coming up (the first in less than a month and the second in june) and a couple of my friends/mutuals wanted me to link my amazon wishlist, so I’m gonna do that below!

obviously no pressure or anything.

it’s mostly books, clothes, jewish/gay related things. re: the books - for a lot of them the default version is at a high price, but there is an option under the product listing for a used or alternate version at a much lower price (like under 10 dollars often), do the cheapest one don’t worry about that at all. if you’re going to buy me a book don’t spend 30 dollars on a book you could buy for me used for 3 dollars.

Law of attraction really works let me tell you. Last year, in January I wasn’t booking any gigs, I was worried that I wasn’t cut out for acting, and considering giving up on my dream. By a stroke of fate, they took a chance on me in March of 2016 for “Extreme Measures”. Ever since then I have been booked solid for an entire year. I’ve had to turn work down because I had so many competing offers.

last May I received my eviction notice. The apartment That had been my home for 4 and a half years wanted to move “relatives” in. My boyfriend of three years left me, and I was entering a chaotic time in my life. So when I asked the universe to bring me a new apartment in SF (no easy feat in this housing market), and new career opportunities–I manifested exactly those things. My spells and creative visualization apparently worked, because people came to ME, I did not seek them out, or even have to audition for most of the roles. How spoiled I’ve been to be sought after. To be approached with scripts, even having roles written specifically for me (three times!). The place I ended up getting, just sort of fell into my lap without much effort. Almost too good to be true. Much better situation in this house as well. Seriously blessed and honored. I didn’t even realize until my grandmother pointed this out. !

Everything I asked the universe for last year: I received. Be careful what you wish for, it may just come true. Energy flows where your focus goes, and we truly do create our own reality, wether it be consciously or unconsciously. Why not take active participation in your destiny by being the architect of your own life?

Bellarke & ‘The Five Love Languages (Pt. 1)

I’ve wanted to make a meta about this forever but have never been able to find the correct words, but where Bellarke dynamic is currently has provided a great amount of inspiration.

The Five Love Languages is a 1995 novel written by Gary Chapman discussing the various ways that people show and feel love. The five ‘languages’ discussed in the novel are words of affirmation, acts of service, gift giving, quality time, and physical touch. If you haven’t read this book, I highly recommend it. It can provide a great amount of insight regarding relationships in your life and what actions make you feel loved.

With that summary in the way, you’re probably asking, ‘Kels, what in the world does any of this have to do with Bellarke?’ Well, upon combining my analysis of the novel with the Bellarke dynamic that is currently present in the show, I discovered something very interesting. Something that says a lot about why we know Bellamy and Clarke love each other without either of them having to say it aloud. Yep, you heard me right! We’re not delusional—it’s basic psychological science—and here’s why!

Bellamy and Clarke show and feel love in ways that are directly compatible with one another. For a simple, brief analysis: Clarke feels love through touches, but shows it through words of affirmation. Bellamy feels love through words of affirmation, but shows it through touch (with a hint of acts of service dropped here and there). Obviously, these characters feel and show love in other ways as well, but I found that these particular love languages are deeply embedded within the characters and their relationship with one another.

The more in-depth analysis will be broken into two parts. The first revolves around Clarke and her love languages and is posted below, and the Bellamy counterpart to this meta will be posted in the near future. So, if the information above interests you in the slightest and you would like to hear more,

Do you ever imagine what it would be like if mr and mrs curtis were still alive? And if so could you do some hc please!

this is all I ever imagine tbh. Most of these are legit just facts. As always, thank you, and sorry it’s so short
(Some of these might be off timeline wise bc things aren’t mentioned in the book or I’m forgetting them)

-Soda would have really talked to his parents about Sandy. They both have such a way with words and would have made him feel so much better

-I feel like the gang wouldn’t have formed, or wouldn’t be as involved in “activity” as it is

-Ponyboy is still angsty and rebellious

-this may be going out on a limb but I feel like eventually Soda would have gotten his own horse

-Darry’s eyes wouldn’t be so cold.

-Soda stayed in school!!!!

-Ponyboy and Darry would be close again, and Darry would help Pony through his Angst™

-Darry didn’t have to stop to support his brothers!!! He continued on to college!!!

-Everyone would just be happier and healthier tbh

What kind of girl do you see jughead with?(like describe the perfect girl for him) 💓

Here’s what I think the “perfect girl” would look like for Jughead:

  • Smart. And I don’t just mean with books. She can easily come up with the weirdest solutions to problems. (Most of the time her solutions work great but no one ever picks her way until last.)
  • She’ll have a way with words. Jughead is a writer and writers tend to fall for those who express their feelings in different ways than normal people. (Trust me, I know this on a first hand.)

  • She’ll be creative. I’m not saying it has to be painting or writing. There’s many different ways to be creative. But She’s do things a certain way that’s different.

  • Shares some of his passions. Whether its with his obsession with food, his love for family, or passion for writing. She’ll definitely share similar passions and have some of her own that he’ll love.

  • I feel like she’d be a huge bookworm or have a love for literacy as well as a wide taste in movies. She’s culturally diverse.

  • She’ll have a different stand on everything and she stands by all of her views.

  • She’ll be friendly towards everyone (even if jughead isn’t at first) but she only trusts certain people.

  • She’ll be naturally beautiful. Like her beauty shines through her eyes. (This is getting so cliche omg)

It’s just a few things I could think of.

The Adjustment (The Program #3) by Suzanne Young

I didn’t even know this book was a thing that was coming until today, but now I must have it. I am a big fan of The Progam series by Suzanne Young. It’s a very interesting idea, suicide as an epidemic. Especially, as the first book came out during a time where suicides in teens seemed to be all over the internet. The idea of removing our emotions, taking away the bad things and starting over. On paper it sounds great…I can erase all the mad memories that have made me sad, depressed and anxious? Sign me up! But, we often forget how much our history makes us, well, us.  This series examines the idea of what would happen we had who we are erased and start over.

I’m excited for this new installment in the series and discovering a new set of characters who were impacted by adults who always think they know better.

Official Synopsis:

Tatum Masterson never went through The Program. She never had her memory stripped, never had to fight to remain herself. But when Weston, her longtime boyfriend and love of her life, was taken by handlers, she hoped he’d remember her somehow—that their love would be strong enough.

It wasn’t.

Like all returners, Weston came back a blank canvas. The years he and Tatum spent together were forgotten, as well as the week when he mysteriously disappeared before The Program came for him.

Regardless of his memory loss, Tatum fights to get Weston to remember her. And just as they start to build a new love, they hear about the Adjustment—a new therapy that implants memories from a donor. Despite the risks, Tatum and Weston agree to go through the process. Tatum donates her memories from their time together.

But the problem with memories is that they are all a matter of perspective. So although Weston can now remember dating Tatum, his emotions don’t match the experiences. And this discrepancy is slowly starting to unravel him, worse than anything The Program could have done.

And as the truth of their life together becomes clear, Tatum will have to decide if she loves Weston enough to let him go, or to continue to live the lie they’d build together.

Prepare for your Adjustment.

Release Date: April. 18, 2017

Don’t Look For Lacey Lynn: A night of sleepover fun ends in terror when one girl calls upon a local urban legend.

Skeleton Key: A down on his luck man is given the key to any door, but soon learns that some things are best left locked away.

Hey I love your blog! I really wanna write a book with black characters but I don't want it about them being black. Like I don't want it to be about them struggling with race or drugs or gangs. I just want the characters to be black bc i feel like they're aren't enough black YA books. Any ideas on what it could be about?

Hey! This is really interesting and I don’t want to say the wrong thing as I’m mixed race- I almost have a take on both sides, but don’t want anyone to think I’m being rude! Okay, so I’ve seen a lot of posts circulating the internet about how white people shouldn’t be allowed to write from a black persons POV seeing as they haven’t experienced racism. In someways agree and other ways I really disagree. Having a strong lead character who is one of a minority can be empowering, but at the same time people can become critical. I think maybe what you want to do is have a storyline like any other, just replace the usual stereotype of having the lead character being white (or us assuming) and openly telling the reader of their nationality. It is difficult to get things like this right, there will always be people who disagree with you and yes, it hurts, but it’s your writing and you can do pretty much what you like (within reason of course!).

I thought you might want to check out this post to tune your ideas for a plot? If not, be sure to message me so we can chat it through! I’d love to hear from you :) Good luck, lots of love from Yasmine xox
