For the character thingy: chaol westfall aka the love of my life

  • First impression- Grumpy, grouchy, overly-serious #relate.

  • Impression now- None of you deserve my dear hufflepuff son. He belongs to me now.

  • Favourite moment- OOOOOOOOH. His entire existence is my favourite tbh but “I love you” is right up there, so is…Literally every interaction he has with Nesryn. And the final scene with the king, he is so brave, my dear boy is so brave and good. JUST EVERYTHING OKAY. EVERYTHING. I SUPPORT EVERY SINGLE THING MY SON HAS EVER DONE.

  • Idea for a story- Hmmmmmmm. I would like to see him when he was younger and I would like to see him go home to Anielle at some point and also see his mother again. I would also like someone to send the boy on holiday and force him to chill and enjoy himself. Just make him happy okay???? Also Chaol/Aedion just. Like. Just. Give.

  • Unpopular opinion- He is dear to me. He is a fascinating character. He is a deeply important character. He deserves better from literally everyone. He also…Is not…….Prejudiced. He had entirely reasonable grounds for arguing with Aelin in QoS that had literally nothing to do with her magic/fae heritage and literally everything to do with her appearing unstable, unreasonable and trying to murder his best friend in cold blood without giving him a chance like ???????????

  • Favourite relationship- Chaol/Nesryn on the romantic ship side of things and Chaol/Dorian on the non-romantic side of things (because they must both be mentioned but also ot3 Chaol/Dorian/Nesryn is…..stunning. Best of both worlds.)

  • Favourite headcanon- He probably has an incredibly dorky, incredibly secret little hobby that he’s really passionate about but that he never shares with anyone. Like bird-watching or collecting old coins or just something that he knows an inordinate amount about and everyone is just ??? Dude where did that even come from? Bonus points: this boy is not even a tiny bit straight. He’s not even pretending to be.
can’t we just enjoy it?

I’ve been thinking a lot about the acotar and tog fandoms since acowar has come out. And the way that a lot of people are frustrated with criticism of the books. And a lot of people think, well, I just really enjoyed them, and so the end, that’s it, I’m not going to think more critically about it than that.

And that’s ok. Enjoy what you want, that’s fine. But the thing is? That’s…. a form of privilege? To be able to look at a thing, think “well this rep was shit”, and then *shrug*, walk away, and still keep enjoying it. Because for a lot of people, they can’t just brush it off and keep doing meta and reading the fics and looking for edits. Because it really affects them negatively, in various ways. And for a lot of people, marginalized people in particular, it’s not a question of “ignoring” what’s erasure or marginalization or poorly done rep. Not when it touches something inside of them, and hurts.

The people who are negatively affected don’t need to be able to explain it to anyone. They don’t have to justify feeling like their experience has been ignored or misrepresented or presented in a harmful way. I definitely got the sense that sjm was throwing in everything but the kitchen sink into ACOWAR, and maybe that’s somewhat of a different issue, but you can’t just……. throw things at an audience and expect them to be happy. Not at the last minute, not when it feels like it was done with half a thought (to some people, not everyone). And certainly not when it relates to something as profound as someone’s race or sexuality or ability or culture.

And if you can ignore that something was poorly done, or was done at the last minute, or feels retconned to a lot of people, then it probably doesn’t really affect you in the first place. There is nothing wrong with that, but I think it’s important to remember that your ability to walk away from the problems and not really care about them may be indicative of other things - it doesn’t necessarily mean you aren’t smart enough to be critical, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you are insensitive, but it might mean that this is an area in which you are privileged - and therefore you can ignore it.

*Please note, I’m only talking about issues of rep and diversity - other writing-based issues, like world-building, don’t really count in this. Sometimes they just happen to overlap, though. And I don’t think this idea is in any way new, but worth stating.

Happy Tuesday everyone! One of my favorite book badasses Manon Blackbeak! :D She’s a character from  Sarah J. Maas’s Throne of Glass book serie, hope you guys like it. Added a bit more FX then what I usually do for these color sketches, trying to hit a balance between speed and niceness.

If Celaena was in ACOTAR.

After entering Tamlin’s estate for the first time:

Celaena: *breaks into every room*

Celaena: *mutters to herself* Luxury and comfortable interior - check. Fabulous clothes for free - check. Delicious food - check. A library - check.

Celaena: *bursts into dining room where Tamlin and Lucien are waiting for her with a look of total despair* Why are you keeping me here?! What will I do? *covers her eyes and pretends to cry* My poor family! How will ever escape? I have to stay here forever! *faints on the chair*

Celaena: *opens her totally dry eyes a few seconds later* Do you think you can get me a piano?

Aeline IS Captain Jack Sparrow

@highladystarfall pointed this out in a post and I couldn’t stop laughing

Yup, that’s definitely Aelin. And all the people that want her dead

ACOWAR proof Aelin will die in ToG7

And the whole “her bloodline is long gone now - though a trace still runs through some human line”?????? UM, AEDION AND LYSSANDRA REPRODUCING TO KEEP UP APPEARANCES?!?!?!?!?!?!??!

The Valg King or whatever only being able to be contained and not destroyed?????

My favourite scene in Heir of Fire

The door opened. Rowan…. He sounded about halfway across the room when his footsteps halted. His breath caught, harsh enough that she looked over her shoulder…. “Who did that to you?”

Her back…. When he’d seen it, his heart had clean stopped….

That day early on he’d threatened to whip the girl, gods above….

She had barely grown into her woman’s body when they had hurt her like that. Why hadn’t she told him? Why hadn’t Maeve told him?

She was almost asleep again, teeth still chattering when her window groaned open in the breeze. She was too cold and sore to get up. There was a flutter of wings and a flash of light, and before she could roll over, he’d scooped her up, blanket and all…. he carried her up the two flights of stairs, down the hall, and then - A roaring fire, warm sheets, and a soft mattress. And a heavy quilt that was tucked in with surprising gentleness… “You’re staying with me from now on.”

This is probably one of my favourite scenes in the entire series ❤
