Two weeks had passed since Jonas, Lys, and Felix had
painted that stage in the park. Felicia’s wedding was now only a day away, and
Jonas was beside himself with worry. He
had this strange feeling that he was forgetting something, but every time he
racked his brain, trying to figure out what that thing was, he could find
nothing. At least Magnus had done a truly magnificent job with the painting.
Jonas had never seen his work before, but as he stood before a large table in
the Damora family’s apartment, looking down at the work of art in front of him,
he had to admit it was better than most of the paintings he’d seen in the
museums. He glanced at Cleo, who was beaming down at the painting, and for the
first time since he’d broken up with her, Jonas didn’t feel that pang of
jealousy. No, he felt completely fine, and as he watched Magnus and Cleo
interact, he realized how very perfect they were for each other, and how in
love the two of them were. Lys had accused him of being Cleo’s lovesick puppy,
but now Jonas saw how wrong she was.

“I love you, Cleo,“ he said, the words finally coming to him, with no effort at all because of how true they were. "I love you so much it hurts.” Her eyes widened. “What did you just say?” Magnus almost laughed. “I think you heard me right.” (….) He loved her more than anything else in this world.”
