been watching livestreams of US news channels lately and

1) they have a LOT of commercial breaks

2) i didn’t realize that ads for medicine were actually like this

ppl keep reblogging this and asking “well what are the medicine ads like in your country” and like…there aren’t any? It’s literally illegal to advertise prescription medicine here?

So who’s gonna tell the Not America part of the world about our legal ads for class action lawsuits against drug companies.

*deep breath* the whAT NOW?

Yep. The ads run on tv like

“Hi. This is Rathford and Tyson law firm. We’re representing a class action lawsuit on behalf of people who were prescribed sybelifex for their asthma. It turns out that sybelifex can cause spontaneous bleeding from every orifice and also super cancer. If you or a loved one has been affected by sybelifex, please contact us at xxx-xxx-xxxx or go to our website at sybelifexmurderedmydog.com.”

Those are totally normal here.

If you or a loved one has been affected by Mesothelioma, you may be entitled to compensation. CALL NOW to see if you qualify!

Oh my god I heard it in the commercial’s voice.

I know everyone’s talking about how the cast of Danny Phantom is full of gay and trans characters exclusively to piss of Butch Hartman but let us not forget, Butch’s bread and butter, Fairly Odd Parents…

Timmy’s parents were 100% sure that Timmy was going to be a girl before he was born, as seen in the episode Secret Origin of Denzel Crocker.

Cosmo seems to be the only other one in the know about this, and has baby pictures of Timmy in a dress on hand

Then, in the episode The Boy Who Would Be Queen…

When Wanda does, inevitably, transform Timmy into a girl to teach him a lesson…

Cosmo immediately panics.

AND in the episode “It’s a Wishful LIfe” when Timmy wishes he never existed…

The Turners have a daughter instead.

In conclusion:

Timmy Turner is trans and used the power of one of his fairy godparents to wish that everyone in his life completely forget that he was born and raised female for a portion of his life, including his parents and his other fairy godparent.

hi everyone im still pissed we never learnt in school that shakespeare was bi and wrote the sonnets about a dude and a woc he was into

hi everyone im still pissed that we were told emily dickinson was a spinster when she spent her whole life writing love letters to a woman

hi everyone im still pissed about the fact that we never got taught any of the super super gay Greek myths. it seems impossible to think they managed to pick all the hetero myths when Greece was just THAT gay but guess what? they did.

hi everyone virginia woolf was also bi im still pissed that so much of literature is queer and has queer coding within it that deserves to be analysed through that lens in the same way that we don’t ignore the gender of an author, but sexuality is never mentioned in highschool literature classes

hi everyone i’m still pissed that we were never taught that da vinci was gay af and that the ideal the western world has of jesus (white, long straight brown hair) was based on one of his male lovers

The general rule? History is more feminist, less white, and more queer than you have been led to believe.

This reminds me of when we were talking about Frederick the great in world history when our teacher bashed our book.

“In the book it says when Frederick the great was 18, he ran away with his tutor. What the book fails to mention is he ran away with his tutor who was his lover.”

“Oh cool girls could be tutors back then!” One random kid

“No.”

The whole class went batshit.

hey this goes for famous fine artists as well. as an art student it always pisses me off in art history class when no one mentions how a famous artist was gay. betcha didn’t know andy warhol was gay, cuz I didn’t

It isn’t common knowledge that Andy Warhol was gay af?

HERES MY 2CENTS ladies if ur gonna bread feed JUST MAKE SUR UR COVERED UP. Yes it’s natural but kids that haven’t had the sex talk do need to be starring

Breastfeeding has nothing to do with sex - you don’t need to have “had the sex talk” to understand breastfeeding. Kid: “What’s she doing?” Parent: “She’s feeding her baby. After someone has a baby, their breasts make milk, and it’s food for the baby.”

See? Not hard. Age appropriate. Has nothing to do with sex.

Also, a lot of babies will not eat under a cover, especially older ones, who’ll just reach up and pull it off. Better a tiny glimpse of boob you can look away from than a screaming hungry baby you can’t tune out.

^^

There is no need to sexualise breastfeeding

or to make the “sex talk” something so taboo.

none of us would exist without sex. the younger we explain this to kids, the less hyper sexualised our society would be, and we wouldn’t make such a big deal out of natural, life giving things, like breastfeeding

marvel should make a mockumentary about loki as odin and the behind the scenes drama that went on while loki was trying to produce and direct his play. i wanna see tantrums about sets, actors, and interviews with asgardians who are just like “ya we know it’s loki but at least he’s not trying to kill anyone, so we just let him do what he wants”

and ideally combine it with that one headcanon that loki straight up kidnapped the actual matt damon

I love being in college because there are no actual adults around so everyone is just going around bullshitting their way through basic tasks. Like I can be like “I think I got better from my cold because I ate an orange yesterday” and everyone is like “Yeah makes sense” and somebody could just be like “I’m gonna put my pillow in the washing machine to clean it” and everyone’s like “Sounds like a great idea John”

I love that college students think this will change post-graduation

“they” (1 word) is shorter than “he or she” (3 words)

“they” is more inclusive than “he/she”

“themself” flows more naturally than “him or herself

“they” is less clunky than “(s)he”

it’s time to replace the awkward “she or he

“hey can you go ask they what does they want for dinner, and when is they coming over to watch movies with they?”

“Hey, can you go ask them what they want for dinner, and when they’re coming over to watch movies?”

Step one is learning how to talk like a human person.

“God send every one their heart’s desire!” —William Shakespeare, Much Ado About Nothing (~1600)

“Now this king did keepe a great house, that euerie body might come and take their meat freely.” —Sir Philip Sidney, the Arcadia (1580)

“If … a psalme scape any person, or a lesson, or els yt they omyt one verse or twayne…” —William Bonde, The Pylgrimage of Perfection (1526)

“Bath ware made sun and mon, / Aiþer wit þer ouen light [Both were made sun and moon / Either with their own light]” —Cursor Mundi (~1325)

We’ve been using they/them/their pronouns to indicate a person with unspecified gender for a long ass fucking time. The only reason it’s become a big issue lately is because it can be used as a semi-respectful term for trans and non-binary folks and we can’t have that can we

These fucks are literally trying to change our language to hurt trans/nb folks, and claiming that’s just the way its always been

It’s in the Oxford English Dictionary as a singular gender-neutral pronoun so anyone who says it’s not grammatically correct can suck it, plus when is grammar more important than affirming the existence of people?

"I love America more than any other country in this world, and, exactly for this reason, I insist on the right to criticize her perpetually." - James Baldwin

The world’s definitions are one thing and the life one actually lives is quite another. One cannot allow oneself, nor one’s family, friends, or lovers – to say nothing of one’s children – to live according to the world’s definitions: one must find a way, perpetually, to be stronger and better than that.”

happy st. patrick’s day, here’s a reminder that the english invaded and colonized our country, attempted genocide, when that didnt work punished us for speaking our own language and enjoying our culture to the point where precious few even speak Gaeilge as a primary language, brutally crushed those who attempted to rebel, ignited a civil war intentionally so they could keep the north, fanned the flames of the Troubles, allowed prisoners to starve to death on hunger strike to send a message, treated us like 2nd class citizens in both our own country and in the UK for years, CONTINUE to fuck over the north, and now attempt to profit off our national holiday by getting really drunk even though the alcohol issues that my country is famous for are due to the above reasons. have a good one

dont twist my post like this lol. white people dont have a connecting culture or history of oppression bc we vary very wildly and come from many backgrounds. white ppl as a whole arent oppressed just cause the irish (and others) were oppressed, to say that is downright insulting because it was WHITE ENGLISH people who did this to us in the first place.

as an addition, the reason irish people are generally accepted as white in modern times is due to anti-black racism we perpetuated in order to “ascend” to the level of our oppressors. so stop using my history and past as a ‘gotcha’ to ppl criticizing white people as a whole

Friendly reminder that Vincent van Gogh willingly checked himself into an asylum so that he could get better, resulting in him creating some of the most iconic paintings of his entire career, done in the asylum, when he was being treated 24/7, because he finally didn’t have to struggle with his demons and could instead focus on his muse, WHICH WERE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS!

Remember this little insignificant painting?

How about this one?

Check this one out:

All of these and more were painted in the asylum when he was receiving treatment for his mental illnesses and I know I just said that but I said it again and I’m saying it a third time until you dramatic abled assholes understand!

VINCENT VAN GOGH

- KNEW THAT HE WAS MENTALLY ILL

- WANTED TO CHANGE THAT

- WENT TO AN ASYLUM

- GOT THE HELP HE NEEDED

- PAINTED SOME ICONIC MASTERPIECES AS A RESULT!

SO DON’T YOU DARE COME OUT HERE WITH THIS, “I WISH I WAS DEPRESSED SO I COULD BE AS CREATIVE AS VAN GOGH” BULLSHIT BECAUSE EVEN HE KNEW THAT HIS DEMONS WERE HARMING HIS WORK, AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, HIS HEALTH, AND HE DID EVERYTHING WITHIN HIS POWER TO FIGHT THEM EVERY SINGLE DAY OF HIS LIFE, UNTIL THEY ENDED UP WINNING!

This is also incredibly important for any creative persons dealing with mental illness, and their parents.

Receiving mental help improves your craft, not hurt it. Before getting put on medication for the first time to treat my mental illnesses, my mom expressed to me how she’s worried about my getting treatment because of my art. Regardless, your mental health should be more important anyway, but, honestly, it’s a lot harder to produce good art when you struggle getting out of bed, let alone creating masterpieces. When you’re in more health, improving your craft comes much easier!

Personally I think the most beautifull painting of him was this one:

He made it when he heard about the birth of his nephew who was named after him. Still in the asylum but really happy for his brother! “How glad I was when the news came… I should have greatly preferred him to call the boy after Father, of whom I have been thinking so much these days, instead of after me; but seeing it has now been done, I started right away to make a picture for him, to hang in their bedroom, big branches of white almond blossom against a blue sky.”

Oh I have sucb rants about how “good” art comes while suffering.

No.

look at me.

The idea of the “suffering artist” comes from bunch of alcholic, drug abusing, womanizers trying to justify their bad life choices as some sort of artistic angst.

IT IS 100% BULLSHIT

Take your meds, get your therapy, be happy, and live life

The art will be there.

Kill the myth that artists must suffer.

Oh good I feel better about taking this time off work now…
