Talos, Son of Shor
An Old Nord’s classified account of the Meeting at Shimmerene between Talos and the Aldmeri Dominion.
“I’ll tell you a story, now, and its one about the Stormcrown himself. Talos, then-after known as Tiber Septim, the last son of old Atmora and the Ysmir who fulfilled Shor’s promise. That’s who he is to us nords, you see. He embodies the end of a cycle of bitterness and defeat; he’s a new thing, one that the old gods could never account for. Were Alduin himself to rise from his sleep and wrap the world in his black coils, would Talos the Indomitable not rise to meet him? Is it possible that this new god, borne of conquest, could destroy the world-eater itself? That’s not for me to say, but its the question that was asked, and I think that’s the first time it ever had been in this cycle or any other. Optimisim isn’t part of nordic culture, you see; as far as I’m concerned, Talos WAS that optimism for us.When I served under General Stormcrown? That was optimism. That was loyalty. I served him well for so many years that, on this day, I was part of his personal guard.
So it was that the Numidium- or- no, I get it, I can’t say that. Blades will be on my ass… Summerset was laid low at the feet of the Stormcrown, and in his mercy he deigned to discuss terms with them. Nevermind the rumor that his conquest had been entirely at the hands of a rogue god, or that - shortly after the “victory” at Alinor - that rogue god had promptly gone haywire and left service. So the rumors say. Who am I to dabble in rumors, though? It doesn’t matter.
That day was chilly, I remember. Usually it was perfect, it being Summerset, but Tiber Septim’s conquest had… well, it had done something to the landscape. Reminded me of home. As we marched through the streets of Shimmermere, the crowd watched with terrified eyes. An arrow was shot at some point ahead of the column; one legionary casualty sustained, fourty seven innocent elves killed or wounded in retaliation. That was the battle of Shimmermere. When we met with the elven diplomats at the summit, at… at the Temple of Serene Harmony, none of ‘em risked mentioning it I guess. Remember, these elves - as far as they knew - they were under his boot, and this is Talos we’re talking about.
So the diplomats and the Dragonborn Emperor met in the main hall of the monestary, surrounded on either side by the stormcrown’s personal guard. I was one of them. I stood next to Talos himself, and I remember every detail of what had happened next.
Y’see, the Monestary of Serene Harmony used to have a grand statue of Auri-El sitting enlightened at its center, all wisdomy-like. He was their chief god, the ancient ancestor of their High King if I recall. Practically our Ysgramor, but even bigger than that. Practically about as big as Cyrodiil’s Akatosh. The legends say that Auri-El was the one to steal Shor’s heart, so… Well, the Emperor takes one look at it and - before the negotiations even start - he’s like, “Take it down.”
Now, I don’t need to tell you that the high elves were horrified by this.
“That statue has stood pristine for thousands of years!” They said. “We can’t tear it down! Its our heritage! You’ve already taken so much from us!”
Talos just listens for a bit. We listen too, me and the other troopers. We start to get mad. Shouldn’t these elves be grovelling at the Emperor’s feet? I mean, after all, we won. Even I was a little frustrated; I wanted to go back to camp, drink elven wine, sing victory songs. A small part of me wanted to be as far away from my Emperor as possible. So as the Emperor’s listening, my buddy Lucinius - he, uh, he steps forward and rams his broadsword through the belly of one of the elven emissaries.
There’s no panic, not from us, not from the Emperor, not even from the elves. The elves are just sitting there, shocked, saying nothing. In retrospect, actually, with how riled up the troopers were I think we all just expected it to happen. Talos gestured to the corpse of the emissary, bleeding out on the floor.
“If you’re not going to accede to any of our demands then there aren’t going to be negotiations.” He says. “There’s only this in store, until you’re willing to cooperate.”
There’s a silence. The elves don’t have anything else to say, because they know what they have to say and they don’t want to say it. Finally, Talos just waves his hand. “Take down the damn statue.”
So me and the boys took a hammer to the entire statue and reduced it to rubble. Then the negotiations began and the altmer agreed to every single demand that Talos made.
That’s what Talos is to us nords. He’s the man who won Shor’s war and broke the elves so utterly, so painfully and with so little mercy, that he became their Emperor too. He’s the man that broke Auri-El’s back, and bowed the High King of Alinor, and ground the heritage of an entire people to dust beneath his heel, and that…that’s revenge. The nords loved him for it.
And me? Well, I went back to camp and enjoyed a nice long night of drinking. I went to sleep and tried not to think about all the things I’d done in the name of a man that I was beginning to hate.”

I hate myself for having lost this attunement. It was very important to her and seeing her expression on the verge of tears has left me emotional. And more when I have seen all the shit she has been through since the group separated and had that circus that hurt her so much (For my part I can only speak from 2018 onwards) But it doesn’t take a genius to know how hurt Lauren got out of all that chaos and how much healing she still needs. We have seen that before. She also shouted it to the four winds as Camila is doing now. She showed it in each one of those stories where she seemed like haunted.Remember, folks? Those stories that scared us because Lauren seemed like a soulless girl. That is what she is healing as well and that we realize that she is different. Freer, less haunted but with a long road ahead. I had no plans to make a longer post of her attunement, I think I shouldn’t even write it because I promised not to, but I need to express myself. I have not seen her streaming yet, but tomorrow I will and I will write a post about it because I am very interested to know what she discussed with her holistic psychologist friend.
And please, folks. Don’t forget to stream her music. We can’t let them die.
dinah and normani completely ignoring what’s going on behind them will forever be funny
Women, they have minds, and they have souls, as well as just hearts. And they’ve got ambition, and they’ve got talent, as well as just beauty. I’m so sick of people saying that love is just all a woman is fit for. I’m so sick of it!
can we please take a moment to appreciate how cute this little nugget is like bro I love her so much 🥺 uwu
