Very interested to see how tumblr’s usual introduction-adulation-cancellation cycle plays out vis-a-vis Goncharov.

Okay, since nobody asked I will explain further.

Typically, a piece of media can only sustain popularity on tumblr for so long before users begin pointing to its flaws as proof positive that it’s morally bankrupt to engage with said piece of media at all.

Watching Goncharov’s upswing in popularity makes me wonder if it’s cracked the code to circumventing this phenomenon entirely. It may be the perfect piece of media for tumblr as its very nonexistence allows it to remain truly flawless and therefore uncancellable. I guess only time will tell.

everyone’s talking about all of the heart wrenching quotes and scenes from goncharov, but honestly the ambiguity of the “i knew i could never really have you” scene will never be surpassed in modern film. both katya and andrey are present in goncharov’s hallucination, and most people assumed he’s talking to katya then, but the quick switch to andrey makes me think it’s both of them? i don’t know

Unpopular opinion: The theatrical cut of Goncharov is the superior cut. The extended runtime of the Director's Cut makes the pacing feel slightly sluggish and doesn't add much in return.

Unpopular opinion, I guess, but I actually feel sad for the bird app refugees. I’ve been on here for a decade and I remember how it felt after nipplegate, when so many people were leaving… there’s never another place with a comparable culture, and your friends may not all be there for the same reasons, so everyone ends up scattering and things are never the same. You lose track of some friends forever, and your interactions with others are permanently altered. Your comfortable routine, if you like comfortable routines, is gone. You may eventually find a new home, or you may live on amongst the wreckage of your old one (if that’s an option), but… it still sucks.
