Changed my avatar to match my fandom Twitter handle, which is also Scarletjedi (@afan17steps). I rarely tweet anything of my own, but if you’re on Twitter abs want to follow me there, whelp- there I am!
No pictures for this one because I forgot to take them, but the second room renovation has begun! Operation: living room!
Not much is changing, but what is changing is a pain in the ass, lol. We’re restraining the molding a darker shade to go better with the paint, a deep pine - thing bottom row of the paint swatches. It’s the darkest true green they had at Lowe’s.
At the moment, the stain is stained and drying overnight, and some of the wall prep for paint has been done- some of the edges etc has been done. The accent wall only need one coat because it’s already a deep green. The rest are a mint color that was nice but I’m not sorry to see go. I’ll post photos of the walls once they’re finished.
We have a tv setup that’s changing- we want to replace the stand (it’s a corner piece with a fake fireplace heater we barely use) with a different corner unit for the electronics, and we plan to mount the tv. The bookshelves in either side are staying, but will eventually be replaced with thrifted wood pieces over the flat pack ones we have now.
The couches are the couches. We have dogs. They’re our couches for at least the next ten years.
The coffee and end tables are the same. We really like them. They’re staying. You’ll see them in the finished product.
I want to replace out curtains with something better, hopefully also thrifted. However, I do have my eye on some lovely William morris prints on Amazon that I may or may not try to convince my wife to get.
We did get two new pieces, those I can show you!
You can see the mint color of the walls in these, but these are our new shelves! The smaller one needs some tlc on the top and sides, but that’s a project for down the line, one I have a working power sander.
I’ve been calling theme for this room “dark botanicals” or “nightshade gardens” the idea is that if the powder room is where the fortune teller works, this is the garden/apothecary where the witch grows/brews her potions. Dark academia - herbology lol.
Okay, y’all! I got an update for you! It took a minute because i forgot that I’m closer to 40 than 30, and doing the painting in less than 24 hours sent my back spasming. So. It’s better now, haha.
Here’s the new color!
It’s the darkest green they had that wasn’t actually a blue/green. I think it was called something like deep pine. Either way, we still want to make some changes to the entertainment area, I want to replace those curtains, and we actually moved the bookcase in the corner over to replace the bookcase to the right of the tv, the one with the throw pillows on top. We have this in the corner instead!
I’m now looking for a second hand brass umbrella stand to go next to it. I’m sure I’ll find one somewhere.
The next step is to put the bookcases back to rights and then hand the shelves and art that we have. Then, we want to mount the tv and replace the tv stand with one the cats haven’t destroyed. Eventually I’ll want to replace the couches with a set that fits the space a little better, these are a smidge too big, but I’m not getting new couches while our dogs are still more puppy than not.
Ultimately, the room isn’t all that different. The thing I keep saying is that it looks *planned* now, like adults live here instead of overgrown college students. It’s a good feeling.

Lord of the Glittering Caves 💎
The pipeline from “hey, do you want Swedish meatballs this week for dinner?” To “let’s go to IKEA” is perhaps 2 inches long.
Boom baby.

I have found that my biggest culprit of black and white thinking is when it comes to numbers and money.
I was just sketching out a rough budget, and made some estimates for how much I can save each month, and have been low key panicked about the amount I have left to spend.
But, like, I don’t need to be.
Most of my money is spent on, like, monthly expenses, gas, and food. So, I calculated that and then made some estimates for savings- and then panicked that i *wouldn’t have enough for food* because my old way of budgeting merged food and fun money.
Like- I’m not gonna starve. The food is already in the budget.
But my brain is like “no one can live on this little money” and like- that’s not what’s happening. That’s my monthly fun money. It’s not a lot, but it doesn’t need to be. But try convincing my brain of that.
I am vexed:
I’m starting to get back into DC comics (Tim Drake, my beloved) and I know I own the trades for Cataclysm, No Mans Land, and Contagion- they were gifts from my wife while we were dating. Recently, they ended up in my attic to make room for other stuff- and now I can’t find the box!
Granted, I should look in the daylight and not at night with a flashlight, but still!
The search continues….
I went back up and found some of them
I found no man’s land 1-3 and city of crime, but not the ones I’m looking for.
The worst part is that I can remember packing the box. I’ll look again in daylight.
They were on my bookshelf in my office! I’m gonna scream.
I still can’t find no man’s land vol 4 and 5, but now I’m wondering if I ever had them. I thought I did, but I could be wrong.

Have migraine
Take migraine medicine
Migraine medicine has caffeine
I am *frustratingly* awake right now. I don’t have to be up for another *hour*
I found out years ago now that the radio station that I listened to every day throughout middle and high school had a streaming site, and every once in a while I remember and turn it on, and man- it’s like going back in time.
Ok thanks @marley-manson you fab post just made me realize something I didn't clock at all in the times I've watched Pizza and Promises. Because you mentioned the eaves-dropping in Chinatown, I'm like bah, Fraser complains about the ethics and doesn't follow rules for solving a case the lawful or normal way at all EVER. His ways and whys to solve are always personal moral reasons equals best. Wait... his ways to solve are... like mostly getting Ray to sanction his illegal pursuits under the idea of law. Harkens back to why he came into Chicago, and liaising to cover his own pursuit. And here he was, so judgy calling what Ray was doing entrapment in the Pilot.
Wait... like...
Ray and Fraser's final plan to catch the car thieves in Pizza & Promises.
Which was totally entrapment. With cars this time.
HAHAHA.
Benton Fraser is a perfect example of someone who is naturally chaotic good (there is an objective good that occasionally overlaps with but is not the same as the law) who has learned to be successful by convincing everyone else that they are lawful good through *malicious compliance with the law*
I’m currently doing two things I don’t want to do: if I alternate between them, it’s like I’m getting a break, right?
In unrelated news, I have finally started a hexagon quilt. Have I ever quilted before? Nope! But I’ve been hand sewing since I was like 10 and I have that adhd crafting confidence. You know the kind. Anyway, here’s my progress so far (two nights work)
Aren’t those flowers cute? I’m planning on making a bunch in different combinations (from the stack of fabric there). And these are the paper hexagrams I’m using- they’re maybe 1/1.25 inches big. I’m using Elmer’s stick glue to tack everything down before I stitch it together. My fabric is from my stash, but was originally from Walmart, same as the cheap ass thread I have. The hexagrams I printed (search “tesselated hexagrams” and you’ll find a bunch you can print).
I fully expect the fabric I have won’t be enough to finish the full quilt, and then I have to decide if I want to mix in other fabric from my stash or if I want to get more from Walmart. I’m planning on thrifting something to work as the backing, but I’m not getting that until I decide what the final pattern will be.
Progress will be sporadic, but I’ll update as I go!
