Growing by the Lake
I have grown and you've watched me. You've supported me. Nurtured me when I needed nurturing. Because of you, I've grown tall and strong, withstanding some of my most devastating storms. I've been cut down, knocked down, ripped to pieces. People often know the value of your strong roots, But only for what they can attain from them. But I always grow back. The same, yet not the same. Strong, but not as strong. Vibrant each time, but not for quite as long. But this time, I'm being burned down. For the first time I'm not as optimistic. Can the fire be put out before it's too late? If not, can I grow again? If I do, how strongly can I grow? Will it even be worth the effort? This burning is slow and seemingly everlasting. If only the river at my feet could hear my cry and heel me.
