I do not believe in the concept of the “slut.” I do not believe a woman who enjoys sex, enjoys talking about sex, has a lot of partners, or wears little to no clothing is bad, sullied or morally deficient.
I do think we need to ask ourselves: where does the authentic expression of female sexuality as a source of creativity begin, and the heteronormative objectification of the female form in a misogynistic industry end? What is art, and what is bargaining with the patriarchy? And when it comes to women of color, especially black women, a group that has historically had the mantle of hypersexuality unwillingly foisted upon our person, what is liberation and what is oppression?
I really wish I had the answers.
