What is up with ArtFight staff? (my attempt at a semi-comprehensive post)
- Allowing minors to view NSFW content, not reading reported accounts, staff’s disconnect with each other, mods roleplaying when the Discord got raided with messages of S/H and the like, lack of communication and favoritism
- In the above article, note that an anonymous but reputable source testified that AF staff is understaffed and overworked. You can see, when comparing the current staff (as of June 28th 2023), and last year’s staff, that in between last year and this year alone, SEVEN staff members quit pretty close together. This includes an administrator who has not been replaced.
- Re: the above point: ArtFight staff has always been understaffed, but this issue seems to be a lot worse this year (2023). The mods have also said that they are receiving lackluster communication from the admins at this time. This is why early bird signups and even Discord roles have been so late.
- As of 2023, there is also only ONE PERSON working on the site BY HERSELF
- Potential misuse and lack of transparency with donations
- ArtFight Has Not Delivered on $300 Promised Perk (video)
TLDR: the ArtFight staff received a heavy hit in terms of a lot of staff quitting in rapid succession last year, which included someone in a very high-up and important position, who has not been replaced for this year. This has led them to be even more understaffed and overworked than normal for 2023’s ArtFight. This is why early bird signups have yet to be released, 3 days until the fight begins, and why it took multiple days just to get Discord roles out. Moderators are not receiving communication from admins, and there is only one coder working on the site’s development all by herself.
Furthermore, ArtFight has had a lot of issues and incidents in the past; a LOT of which could be explained by disorganization within the staff, such as someone not receiving their $300 donation reward, staff not communicating with each other, not reading reports, and lack of communication.
Basically, ArtFight staff is disorganized, not good with with communication (with each other and non-staff), understaffed, and overworked. They are a small team doing this in their free time for no pay, so bear that in mind, but the cracks are starting to show with 2023’s ArtFight, as there is mod talk of postponing the game before it has even begun, among other things.
07/22 update:
12 mods and counting are mass-resigning, after discovering that
one of the admins has been pocketing and living off of the donation money that was supposed to be going to site maintenance, in secret.
And, of course, it goes without saying that the others mods haven’t been paid a dime.

Captions shouldn't be censored. If the video says fuck or cum or cunt the captions should say the fucking word.
Unless it's a slur! No one needs to see that.
If they say a slur in the video, the captions should reflect it. The disabled are not little babies who have to have life sanitized for them.

Here's how it works when subtitles are done properly:
Audio: Let's BEEP go! Subtitle: Let's (censor tone) go!
Audio: Let's fucking go! Subtitle: Let's fucking go!
Removing swears and slurs from the subtitles without removing it from the audio is implying that deaf/HoH people need babying, unlike their hearing friends and family sitting right next to them. Which is frustrating.
The point of subtitles is to give the same experience to everyone watching, regardless of ability—not to be a more palatable version of what's being said.
doing this with anything is an awful hit, but god, there are so many youtube accounts that serve as the last existing records of so many dead people's voices. feels especially perverse

The reason they're giving comes across as pure spin, they could always randomise the passwords of inactive accounts, or simply make them inactive, especially for those with an account retrieval process set up.
Seems pretty clear that their actual motivation is to cut costs by deleting aged accounts and content.

For all my fellow oversharers out there.
As a chronic people-pleaser, this is my advice for success.
Offer as little as possible. Be terse. Get rid of all those exclamation marks and tidbits about why you want to take a sick day. State your needs clearly and concisely without reason. Start saying “No, I’m unable.” more often. Say Thank You only when the other party deserves it.
