Before you spend money you have earned by working at your job on something frivolous that gives you joy have you considered donating it to some desperately impoverished tumblr blogger who might need it for Uber rides? Btw this is the only way to be a good ally and if you don’t do it you’re not going to heaven actually

My best advice for people new to adulthood: keep emergency food around.

I don't mean like those prepper type people. I mean keep a granola bar in your purse or backpack. If you have a car, keep a jar of peanuts in there.

This is good for if you miss your bus, or forget your wallet somewhere, or get stuck in traffic. You never know when you are going to feel shaky, and it's better to have something quick and easy on hand, in case you need it.

Having emergency food around is your best friend. Trust me.

oh so they’re just saying the quiet part out loud? Good to know they’re just out and open now

That’s not the quiet part.

There’s something else, something they might not even be fully aware of themselves. The real quiet part is that if it was *their* child or *their* ectopic pregnancy they’d pull out all the stops to save their life or get their grandchild aborted. Planned Parenthood sees reactionaries and regressives all the time, and they are every bit the nightmare patients you’d imagine them to be. But the one thing all those patients have in common is that *their* abortion is *justified*, and the next week they’ll be outside the clinic again, rejoining the protestors for “killing their baby”.

It’d be one thing to have ghoulish principles, but the far-right have none at all.

When I was younger and had more time to waste on the internet, and spent a lot of time in various online forums getting into arguments -- on purpose -- I made up a game I called Six Degrees of Slut.

The game (which is a variation on the well known Six Degrees of Bacon) was very simple. In any discussion of abortion, see whether you could get the other side to articulate, within six back-and-forth exchanges, some variation of The Filthy Sluts Must Be Punished. Regardless of where their argument started, the goal of the game was to get them to admit that.

I never once lost a game of Six Degrees of Slut. On a few occasions the match was inconclusive - the other person left off arguing before we reached round six - but I never lost; I never once reached six rounds of debate with a prolifer without them expressing some variation on this sentiment. But what was really remarkable to me was, a lot of times, that there was no effort involved at all -- they would blurt it out themselves, with effectively no provocation.

Scratch a prolifer, and you'll find right under the surface the conviction that The Filthy Sluts Must Be Punished. I have never once yet found an exception. Sometimes you don't even have to scratch.

If Taylor Swift used her power for good she would be such a great stochastic terrorist. She would post on Instagram "Hey guys, Tay here. Just wanted to say that whoever delivers me the head of Ron DeSantis on a platter will get free Eras Tour tickets. #ShadeNeverMadeAnybodyLessGay." It would be at her doorstep in two hours.

I will add that a lot of womens denim is "softer" and more elastic for the purpose of making them have a tight body-con fit whereas mens pants are tailored and meant to drape and fit. Small pockets mean less fabric and reflect that skin tight fit of the pant. Essentially the sexualization of women also plays a role in the crappy quality women are sold.

This is a reminder for those who handmake Christmas presents that now is not too early to start. It may in fact be a good time to start if you have a lot to make/your craft takes a long time. You should maybe start it now, whether that's brainstorming or actually doing the crafts!

I promised to make two of my daughters quilts for their birthdays in November/December or Christmas. I know I should be working on it.

I hate the trend of just describing books with what minorities the main characters represent and nothing else. not only does it feel weird + exploitative to me it's also such a shoddy ineffective marketing technique. "this is my book with queer polyam disabled vampires you should buy it" ok great but what is it like. about. what are the themes. why should I read it

it really is so funny how taylor swift fans will go “she’s releasing a new album because she wore this specific dress” and you’ll go “surely that can’t be” but then she does and then you think maybe taylor swift fans are onto something and then they’ll show you the most insane powerpoint of your life

I’m know I’m not the first person to say this, but any newbies on tumblr really need to understand how different this is from a lot of other social media. Particularly tiktok.

I just saw a creator on tiktok reminding followers that it’s actually a problem when someone goes back to the earliest post and watches all the posts chronologically, liking and commenting along the way. The stupid app recognizes it as spam or something and then kinda puts a halt on their account? Literally punishing people for positive engagement?? 🥴🤦‍♀️

I’ve already heard people saying years back how they don’t want to be “creepy” and go through a persons blog, liking and reblogging tons of stuff. But think how many more people are going to be worried about it now, thinking they might do actual damage! Most people, especially younger people, are so used to the way tiktok works now. So please, do not ever worry about this on here. Just remember-

You will never do any harm if you go on a like and reblog fest through someone’s tumblr blog! The only risk you’re taking is to make the blog owner weep for joy!! 😭🤣

This website literally passes around posts that are so old, the newest comments are celebrating things like “Happy 10th anniversary to this post!” sometimes.

The worst that usually happens is a creator going “wait, what, HOW did you find that 7 year old post that had no tags buried in the depths of my blog?”, very few people actually get mad about it (and from what I’ve seen, the people who do are all entirely immigrants from socmed sites like TT where they have entirely different cultures about it.)

Tumblr itself is based around longevity in many ways.  So, just have at it.  Have fun.  If you like that post 12,000 pages deep on my blog, GO FOR IT.  That’s what this website is all about

Also, feel free to tag anything you do reblog, because they’re fun to read! Tumblr tags serve two purposes:

1) Making it so you, personally, can find a post on your own blog again

2) Being absolutely unhinged in if you don’t feel comfortable adding to the post (though both are valid)

okay do yoh guys ever think about the fact that “high quality” is an actual descriptor like theres high quality tea leaves high quality fabrics high quality espresso beans etc but because of advertising everything that is said to be “high quality” on the package is just because it supposedly sells better. but not everything is high quality so it is a lie. a descriptor becomes meaningless because it sounds good. what if we were just honest. why cant you say this coffee beans arent the best but they will do the job. i would be happy with okay if it didnt lie

A British writer?

PTERRY THE BRITISH WRITER?!

To explain! if you were fortunate enough to attend a Discworld convention while Sir Pterry graced this plane, you would receive an explanatory pamphlet with a picture of the gentleman up top. Said pamphlet explained that, while this gentleman looked very similar to our Guest of Honor, he was in fact a completely different person named Silas T. Firefly. You could easily tell him from Terry Pratchett by his lack of Mr. Pratchett’s signature hat. Silas was a private person who would appreciate being left alone as he attended the convention, like every other fan.

Anyway watching Pterry wander around the convention pretending to be incognito and graciously chatting up all the attendees was easily the highlight of my decade.

I truly wish the rest of us could pull off this level of grace and delicate handling of the “just a person”/“kinda famous” divide.

For the most part, authors are really only Rock Stars under certain very specific circumstances. And those circumstances can be shocking and overwhelming, and since most of us became authors because we liked to read (and probably liked the genres we wound up writing), we want to wander around and look at things and be People, not Rock Stars. But it’s also nice to be a Rock Star sometimes. It feeds the brain weasels.

So having a “Rock Star now” indicator that is generally acknowledged and honored by the community is amazing.

I wish there was a way to block artists from being recommended to me on Spotify. Yes I like r&b hip hop. No I don't want to listen to Azaelia Banks or Chris Fucking Brown

Oh fuck thank you for saving my life, putting this in the post so others can see
