The Violinist, chapter 13: The Date Conundrum

Chapter thirteen:  The Date Conundrum

"Knife in your hand, revolver in your pocket, I don't need to check to know there's poison in that heart-shaped locket."

"Xavier, you do not get to tease me not having a date for the Rave'N," Vezi complained, eyeing Bianca at another table. "You're going with your ex."

Xavier scoffed. "Are you absolutely sure you're not going with Wednesday? Like, absolutely a thousand percent sure?" He tilted his head, his arm propped up on the table as it supported his chin. "As far as I know, she doesn't have a date."

The Violinist, chapter 12: The Shopping Spree

Chapter twelve:  The Shopping Spree

"Am I deserving of Redemption, Is it too late for me?"

"Why are you in the infirmary again?"

Enid gagged at the thought of the pictures Wednesday had shown her. "My roomie's leading her own murder investigation. She showed me pictures of evidence. I don't cope well with seeing surgically removed body parts." Enid laughed a little. "Wednesday told me to leave the room once the smelling salts started making me throw up, so now I'm here."

"No visitors?" Enid nodded towards Thing, who Vezi had started to befriend. "Well, him. Otherwise, no - Ajax is still avoiding me." "Out of embarrassment or guilt?" Vezi asked, looking at Thing, who waved at her. "Hi, Thing."

"How should I know why he's avoiding me - that's the point. He's not talking to me." Enid made her statement clearer with dramatic hand movements. Vezi sighed. "Do you want me to corner him? I'll ask Mel to help, if you'd like." "You'd do that?" Vezi gave her a look.

The Violinist, chapter 11: The Chicken Prank

Chapter eleven: The Chicken Prank

"Forgive me God, for I have sinned, I have lied to my children, and my parents I have swindled."

"He stood you up? What an asshole!"

Enid had just told Vezi about last night, which was utterly and absolutely ridiculous. Enid shook her head sadly, looking into the distance. "I was looking forward to this date so much, you know? Like, I thought we'd gotten somewhere yesterday."

The Violinist, Chapter 10: The Explosion

Chapter ten: The Explosion

"And your eyes and smile are just so bright When I hold you, I just know that we'll be alright."

Vezi, the dumbass that she is, forgot to take her violin with her. That might cause a problem, seeing as according to the planning for the closing ceremony of Outreach Day she was supposed to play a piece by Vivaldi she only knew vaguely - she could improvise, it would be fine, she assured herself.

Xavier looked pretty sullen when he showed up with his umbrella half-closed. Vezi narrowed her eyes at his weird walk, almost as if he'd- no, again? Seriously? "Xavier, were you gaslight gatekeep girlboss-ing the psychic community again?" Vezi asked him. She forced a tight-lipped smile when he didn't reply. "Who was it this time?" "Wednesday," he mumbled. Vezi frowned.

The Violinist, chapter 9: The Coffee Break

Chapter nine:  The Coffee Break

"Holiday season has come around But no one's safe here, no one's sound."

Vezi had forgotten that, outside of the little outcast bubble Nevermore surrounded itself with, not everyone was very friendly towards outcasts. Of course, the students had their little scuffles, and she hadn't forgotten the thing with the mayor's son, which was honestly just plain dumb.

"Hello, what can I do for you?" she said, trying to sound friendly. The customer seemed to be a tall woman with grey streaks in their hair. They smiled at Vezi, which was a good sign.

The Violinist, chapter 8: The Kidnapping Sequence

Chapter eight: The Kidnapping Sequence

"And the mushrooms cover the ground I lie under, and no one knows it is here I slumber."

"Who dares breach our inner sanctum?"

are the first words Vezi hears when she descends the staircase. But before she thinks to reply, she sees that they're talking to Wednesday, who's tied to a chair. She narrows her eyes. Wednesday was a Nightshade? Well, not, apparently. Vezi saw it when Wednesday caught the Nightshade symbol on the backside of the book Edgar's statue held.

"You can take the mask off, Bianca," Wednesday replied dryly. She almost seemed disappointed with who the kidnappers were, when they did take off their masks. The Nightshades aren't very intimidating, Vezi thought to herself. Kind of pitiful, actually. Can't even keep two people outside of their "inner sanctum". They hadn't even noticed Vezi was standing at the top of the staircase yet. She almost laughed at how ridiculous it was, instead opting to sit down and watch through the rails of the staircase.

The Violinist, chapter 7: The Box Offer

Chapter seven:  The Box Offer

"The moon didn't appear tonight and the bleak sky made me so sad I couldn't even cry."

"The first Poe Cup took place in 1897 as a way not only to honor Nevermore's most famous alumni, but to celebrate those values that all outcasts share. Community, perseverance, and determination." And a whole lot of cunning and sabotage.

Principal Weems handed the cup over to Ajax and Xavier, who stood in front of Vyama and Vezi. Ajax lifted the cup up, its black exterior catching the sunlight's reflection. A cheer rose up from the students. Weird, that the gorgon team consisted out of three gorgons and two psychics, Vezi thought to herself. She caught Weems glance at her, confusion and irritation clear in her eyes. Vezi tilted her head mockingly, as if to say, "is that all your team had?" and turned away.

The Violinist, chapter 6: The Boat Thief

Chapter six:  The Boat Thief

"And when I looked into your eyes All I saw was my reflection."

The Pit and the Pendulums were the first to go down - and Vezi already knew how and more importantly, she knew she could stop her own team from sinking.

Siren song, is, undoubtedly, very subtle, but sirens do need it for a bunch of shit. Like communicating with each other on a level of sound humans can't hear. Thankfully, Vezi isn't human.

The Violinist, chapter 5: Mel's Favour

Chapter five: Mel's Favour

"I am homesick for a place that is not mine, forever foreign in my eyes"

Mel laughed. "You're not serious. She left you and continued to say someone had been murdered? And the one person she could think of going to was Bianca?" Mel had nearly doubled over laughing. "That's ridiculous! Oh -" she snorted - "my god, that's just ridiculous. That's so funny."

Vezi crossed her arms crossly. "I'm very happy you think my romantic ventures are amusing," she said, "but I had to take care of you while drunk and deal with that situation and act as if I wasn't depressed about the whole ordeal." "Well, you didn't really keep that cool front - I hate to remind you, but you did punch Jack twice, causing a bruised rib." "Not my fault he's an ass."

The Violinist, chapter 4: The Heart Harvest

Chapter four: The Heart Harvest

"I collect my friends and foes like playing cards, because somehow quantity makes everything better."

[Transcript of Enid's vlog]

Who could've known - well me, obviously. Turns out I was right! Addams has a not-so-secret admirer, and she - Vezi, if you didn't see my last vlog - actually had the guts to ask her out! I, of course, helped her, because I'm such a good friend, but can you imagine the guts that would take? I could never. Wednesday is scary, dude. Crazier still, Wednesday actually said yes! Jesus Christ, the twists and turns are insane - pretty out of character, isn't it? Maybe she thinks she can gain something from it. Oh, and I'll be updating if anything new happens, so keep your eyes peeled. See ya!

It was cold and it started raining when Vezi left for the Harvest Festival. Which, you know, was something. Maybe a hint as to how the night would go - who knew.

The Violinist, chapter 3: Securing the Date

Chapter three: Securing the Date "I lost myself in lies, And in truth I found myself again."

There was something in her room. Or someone, Vezi wasn't sure.

There was this presence. She tried to ignore it, getting her violin out of the case and setting the music stand up. Maybe she'd compose later, but first she wanted to play an Etude, to warm up.

She started playing one of Paganini's Caprices, the notes strict and severe. She almost lost herself in the music, but as she was playing, she was interrupted halfway through the piece by a movement in the corner of her vision. She straightened her neck and put her violin down. "The fuck?"

The Violinist, chapter 2: The Barista Encounter

Chapter 2:  The Barista Encounter

"She's just a girl I'm scared of, and I'm just a girl she doesn't know, but maybe, just maybe, she'll see me, and we'll be happy, happy together."

"That's the person you crush on?"

Usually, Vezi wasn't a topic of conversation. She also didn't follow Enid's vlog, which made her very confused when Mel woke her up with this question. Vezi rubbed her eyes. "Where were you last night?"

Mel fully ignored her question. "Addams, really? I mean, not to plagiarize Sinclair here, but the half-dead thing does it for you?" Vezi frowned. "What do you mean, what about Addams? You mean Wednesday? The scary one?" "Yeah, who else, dumbass," Mel responded, tugging Vezi out of bed. "You didn't see Enid's vlog last night? It's gone now, but students made pictures. I don't know if it's creepy or romantic or neither." It started to dawn on Vezi. "Oh, the-"

The Violinist, chapter 1: The Meet-And-Greet

1. The Meet-And-Greet "A memory would be enough."

Vezi first saw Wednesday Addams in the courtyard. And Vezi thought she was terrifying.

Her neat braids, her straight posture, her pale skin, her dark eyes - everything about her screamed perfect. And the way she stared apathetically at other students? Terrifying. As if she didn't care. Jesus, she probably liked that they thought she was weird. Long story short, Vezi decided to steer clear of Wednesday Addams.

But, oh how fun, Ajax is an idiot, and Vezi would pay for it. He immediately walked up to Enid, not seeing Wednesday who oh so clearly stood behind his crush.

The Violinist, chapter 0: Prologue

0. Prologue

"If we are all made in God's image, I shall be my own God."

Once upon a time, a new human evolved. These humans were cast out. Hence the name for their people - outcasts.

Once upon a time, a human by the name of Arachne, like she from the myth, welded arms to her torso, defying the way her gods had made her. For Arachne's vanity and her hubris, not only she, but her entire family were cursed to suffer the fates of outcasts. The curse bound her bloodline to be born with four arms instead of two, two of metal and two of flesh. Not only Arachne, but all her descendants were shunned from their homes, from their social circles, from everything they had ever known. They were labeled 'witches', 'demons' - some reveled in this. Some did not.

Once upon a time, a descendant of this Arachne played the violin. Once upon a time, she heard what others were deaf to. She listened to the music, and in it, she heard the truth.

Once upon a time, a girl made a mistake. She was bound to it. She suffered her own curse and that of another. Once upon a time, she had to survive. But could she?
