Canon is wrong.

When Gwen becomes queen, she doesn't forget she was a maidservant. Yes, she (difficultly) adapts herself to the aristocracy habits, but she doesn't distance herself from her friends of a life, the servants. Specifically, her and Merlin's friendship doesn't disappear out of the blue. When Merlin crushes into Sefa and makes her drop the tray (5×01), Gwen helps them pick the food up because she's friend with them. When Arthur, Merlin and her find time for their picnic dates (5×10 – no, Merlin isn't thirdwheeling and that's a group date), she helps Merlin settle the blanket on the ground because she doesn't want him to do all the work.

My canon is that queen Gwen is close to servants.

It gets even better, because he was doing all of this on a pitch black night. This dude swam towards a lure, slapped at it with his glove, and when it got caught; he let himself float and tugged on the line so the fisherman thought he had hooked a 100+ pound salmon. Once he was finally up to the shore, he turned a flashlight on in the guy’s face and walked out of the water, saying “good morning, gentlemen. State fish and game warden, you’re under arrest.“

At this point, the guy who had reeled him in had literally fallen over in shock, and the other people with him were scared shitless. The warden whipped some citations out of a plastic bag in his wetsuit, made the trespassers sign them, asked if they had any questions, and then gathered all of their fishing gear. And he just. Walked back into the river. And quietly swam away, without another word.

This man is a legend.

Trying to learn that it’s not my responsibility to create or maintain harmony in the lives of those I care about. They are allowed to have difficulties in their lives and struggles in their relationships with others and it’s not something that I need to ‘fix.’ I am not responsible for their happiness or peace. Their struggles do not make me a failure. All I can control is how I interact with them.

You know what I’ve always loved about this scene? How Uther says all grandly, “You shall be Prince Arthur’s manservant.” And then fucks right off. Like look at him. He’s barely finished the sentence before he’s walking away. And I just know in my bones that this was his little secret plan. I have no doubt Arthur probably had a succession of servants - look at how he treated Morris earlier in the episode. They probably couldn’t deal with him. And so Uther is just like, “Right. That’s it. He’s gonna have a permanent servant or so help me god. No more replacements.” And then Gaius comes to him about releasing this idiotic kid who Arthur has thrown in jail for mouthing off at him. He doesn’t think more on it. He’s just like, “fine, just take him, I don’t really care.” Hearing about a certain market fight is irritating of course - because, Arthur, royal protocol, what were you EVEN - but he forgets about it quickly. And then this same scrawny kid saves Arthur’s life and Uther was probably just standing there like, “he needs a reward. Arthur needs a servant. Oh my god Uther you genius.” Bingo. Two birds, one stone. Merlin needs a reward? Arthur needs a servant? Position in the royal household. Damn what an epiphany. And then he just KNOWS Arthur’s gonna protest, because he already heard all about the other incidents, so he just fucks. right. off. before a word can be said. Because right now he doesn’t care if this kid disrespected his son in a public place, if he can handle Arthur by Christ he can damn well take him off Uther’s hands.

prosthetic limbs are forced onto amputees whether they want them or not because the goal is to make disabled people look as abled as possible. whereas, all sorts of people who would benefit from mobility aids are often denied them until it’s a “last resort” because! you guessed it! the goal is to make us look as abled as possible

neither person in this situation is privileged. it’s just that the same harmful phenomenon impacts different groups in different ways

ALWAYS ask before touching someone’s mobility aid!

even if they drop it, even if it’s out of arms reach, there is nothing wrong with asking before helping, and many of us prefer it.

Honestly when people touch my mobility aid it makes me very uncomfortable. My rollator is basically my legs at this point, I cannot walk without it, and when you lean on it, it’s just as awkward as if you came over and leaned on ME. Not to mention that my rollator is a very expensive piece of equipment and if you accidentally broke it I have no clue how I would replace it. Please treat our mobility aids as extensions of our physical bodies, because that’s really what they are.
