hey so, i really dig this particular style of animation but I don’t know what it’s called:

  • thicker lineart but with obvious weight, interesting usage of curves and angles
  • characters are fairly colorful but it’s more muted and retro-style, it blends with the background. sometimes colors are even more stylized for effect depending on the scenes, overall aesthetically pleasing
  • its generally pretty cartoony
  • character designs are diverse but they all retain some sort of charm, im not sure how to describe it but theyre all pretty funky and flowy and i really like that
  • usually big, oval-shaped, expressive as FUCK eyes
  • animation itself is pretty smooth and stretchy, usually traditionally animated. lots of facial expressions, very fun to look at

i know for a fact that not every early 2000s cartoon had this style but i really like it, idk if theres a specific name for it.

Happy New Years folks!

In this update, I’m going to show off some rough animations in progress for the game’s protagonist, Breeze.

Piti Yindee, well known for their comic, ‘Wuffle’, has recently joined the team and has been creating some pretty solid keyframes and roughs animations!

Our current process begins with drafting out some rough drawings of a character for each needed animation.

Once we decide which pose best fits that animation (and making sure that it fits the character’s personality), we move on to creating a couple of key poses.

These will help with building the foundation for the rest of the animation.

After the key pose(s) are selected or corrected, additional keys are created. This is a bit of a continuous feedback loop, as sometimes certain frames may need to be tweaked.

One of the tricky parts were making sure that the sprites themselves to a scale that we could easily manage and import correctly into Unity, especially as we move to much larger characters and objects.

With some trial and error, I managed to create an expandable template for ensuring that characters heights are properly portrayed by using a grid system in the template.

We settled on one grid unit in the template being 64px. When imported into Unity, we set our “Pixels per Unit” to be 128px, meaning every two-grid squares will equal one meter. This makes Breeze is about 1.5m tall (including the ears!)

so apparently the one with the wig thought someone was talking about her behind her back….so she went in “disguise"💀💀to find out what were they saying and after she confronted them in disguise they said something about her to her face and then…she snatched her wig off and said the iconic “surprise bitch”
