Reasons why I like tumblr

1. None of my family is on here

2. Barely anyone in my life knows the website even exists.

3. employers won’t ask for my tumblr handle

4. Website doesn’t post a “timeline” with laser-targeted ads about me.

5. Non-algorythmic feed. It lets me read shit in the order it was posted.

6. Can’t see other people’s follower counts. Big and small blogs interact/mix better, no one is idolized.

7. No one, absolutely no one, can manage to make money off us little shits

8. I can make many types of post on the website

Blue Meanie and Turtle

I thought I’d make your Januaries a bit more interesting and introduce you to one of the less common patients I’ve had, a Blue Meanie of Yellow Submarine fame!  This Blue Meanie was from a family that had sent a frog (Froggie) to the hospital in the past for some minor clothing and eyelid repair.  Blue Meanie and his friend the turtle were new adoptees, who needed a touch more help.

Here is Blue Meanie’s diagnosis photos:

As you can see, he had a small nose wound, and his shoes were disintegrating.  He also had some hand injuries.  Since Blue Meanie is mostly felt, we agreed to avoid the water of a spa (too much risk of dye running and shrinkage).  Instead, his person opted to recover his shoes and stitch his other injuries.  Here he is, all better and ready to fly home:

Now the Blue Meanies may be meanies, but this one had a friend!  An elderly turtle who had a small neck injury, and really needed a swim in some bubbles!

Here are the turtle’s diagnosis photos:

Here he is enjoying his first swim in years:

He looks happy getting the back massage of water, doesn’t he?  He got a new heart of original stuffing, and lots of new stuffing.  I went for  a watery blue and pink heart so he’d always have some water.

The new stuffing, and some extra neck stitches, meant he was soon holding his head up proudly again, and his colors were nice and bright after his swim:

The two flew home to their person and Froggie in Oregon and their person wrote: They look amazing!

Tami the Bear

Tami’s person is one of you wonderful readers!  She wrote to me this fall:

Esteemed Dr. Beth, I come to you in hopes that you might be able to help a dear elderly friend of mine recover from many years of love and snuggles. Tami was my mom’s childhood friend before she was mine, so when I picked her from my Nana’s hand-me-downs, I of course offered her my mom’s name. From then on we had many years together of me sleeping on her nightly and hugging her daily, but by the time I was in high school, her clothes had worn so thin that they had ripped away entirely. Afraid to hurt her more, I kept her safe in a cozy box in the closet for a decade or so… and then I found your hospital! After seeing so many happy, healthy patients under your care on your blog, I realized you might be able to help the two of us introduce her to the world again.

Tami herself is a largish PJ bear (that’s how I describe the animals with pajama bodies).  Here are some of her diagnosis photos:

As you can see, her floral fabric was well loved, but the rest of her was in pretty good shape for two generations of hugs.  I suggested recovering her pjs.  She has a trim of floral fabric around her hat, which we could leave as a memory of the original fabric.  And of course the original fabric would still be underneath.  Frequently, we use a slightly sturdier fabric to recover pjs.  It’s next to impossible to match the original calicos in any case, and a sturdier fabric makes the patient sturdier for more hugs and adventures. :-)  Tami’s person agreed with this proposal.  And they were local, so an appointment was made and Tami’s person brought her to the hospital in person.

When she was here, we went over several fabric options, including fleeces and velvets.  The velvet was a bit too fancy, so her person chose a nice soft maroon fleece.  She also thought Tami would enjoy a spa, so we added that to her treatment plan.

Here’s Tami in her bubble bath:

Her person wrote: “ How cute! That looks very relaxing, I’m almost jealous! :) “

Next Tami got restuffed and got a heart of original stuffing:

Her person described the heart as “it even matches her new suit… with a bit of her old paisley flair!”

Recovering commenced… Tami had one small old tag on her tush which I had to double check about.  Did her person want it in or out?

Tucked in was the answer.  Here are Tami’s first chubbiness photos:

The arms were perfect, but she needed a bit more density in her torso, so I switched up the torso stuffing, adding a slightly denser one into the mix.

“ Oh, that’s just perfect!! She looks just squishable enough without being too floppy. Thank you so so much!! “ said her person.  So I closed up the last seem and Tami’s person came to pick her up.  And she was so happy (the person) that she hugged me! :-)
