Ummm!!! Is anyone else getting comments like these? I wouldn't have noticed anything off about the comments themselves, but check out those usernames. And then in that context, those comments are very generic.

What's happening? What's even the point of spam like this? Is it worth reporting or would it just create unnecessary work for volunteers?

Yes, it's just spam. What's the point: spammers presumably trying to build up some 'realistic' comment history so they don't immediately get detected as spam, before they start spamming for real. You can simply mark them as spam, that doesn't cause any work for us at all because it's an automated system, and marking them helps better train that system to recognize this type of spam.

Among my acquaintances, I am one of the better bakers. Therefore I am “the one who bakes”. Gathering of the Dutch-Indo elders? I will produce a spekkoek with no less than twenty layers. Nephew’s special day? I will make his favorite; macarons filled with chocolate ganache. Teen wistfully wishes for a Minecraft cake? I gotchu fam.

No one ever said “she’s already baked a dessert once and we loved it, so obviously we won’t ask her to bake again; tell her to make spaghetti this time”.

Write that trope again.

Yup!  I am That Reader and I will honestly read the SAME story over and over again if I love it, and so imagine how entirely feral I become if I realise the author has written multiple stories with similar tropes! 

You wanna write the same trope but in Winter instead of Summer?  Gimme those idiots in matching mittens. Friends to lovers but they meet in a slightly different way?  I’m here for aaaaallll the origin stories. Curtain fic but they get a dog instead of a cat? Brb I’m off down the pet store buying gravy bones. 

I’m grateful when authors treat us to any of their stories. If you keep writing a favourite trope I will camp out on your AO3 profile with my nose pressed to the window like the pakidge meme.

Here’s how it works:

Go to this Google Sheet, to the tab for 007 Fest 2023 Prompts, and add something in the Prompt column (<100 words, please).  It’s that easy!

Then when Fest actually comes (in JULY!) a writer or artist can fill the prompt and receive EXTRA FEST POINTS for their fan creation because the prompt is on the list.  

And I can tell you, dear friends, we writers and artists are VERY MOTIVATED to get EXTRA FEST POINTS.

Because Fest is about fun and creativity, but it’s also very much about points.
