okay a while ago i made a post with this image asking for recs

i’m now returning to make a list for anyone else that shares my slightly niche hyperfixation

so here we are a list of different medias that are about zombies that have queer characters

Movies:

Anna and the Apocalypse (2018)
Shaun of the Dead (2004) (intentionally queer-coded but trust me it’s very explicit)
Housewife Alien vs. Gay Zombie (2017)
ZMD: Zombies of Mass Destruction (2009)

Tv Shows:

The Walking Dead (2010-2022) (queer rep from season 4 [2013] onward)
In The Flesh (2013-2014)
The Last Of Us (2023-)

Books/Comics:

The Walking Dead comics (issue #67 onward)
Wranglestone (by Darren Charlton)

Webseries/Webcomics:

Shoot Around (webcomic 2015-2017)

Video Games

The Last Of Us (2013) (only one character who’s only in a small section of the game)
The Last Of Us: Left Behind (2013)
The Last Of Us: Part II (2020)

so basically the world is severely lacking in this type of media but im gonna keep this post as an ongoing account of it all so i’ll keep coming back and editing it and adding more as i find more

what upsets me is that the walking dead is the only one of these that isn’t a) a parody or b) about zombies living as normal people (at the time i made the post)

as usual please leave recommendations if you have any !!

When are we gonna get it through people's heads that if you're making a racism allegory youre fundamentally undermining the whole thing by giving the different groups fundamentally different biology. How many times do we have to go over this one

y'all not to doxx myself too hard but irl i have spent some time in my life in mental health recovery, and i am here to tell anyone who needs to hear it that people with multiples & schizophrenia & psychosis & BPD are fun and interesting and lovable people and my friends

i knew somebody in recovery who had a system of 12 personalities that he drew out in a nested chart for me. they did not remember each other's experiences. and it was cool! i could talk with one alter and then catch up another alter later about what we talked about! it was fun!

i knew a girl with psychosis who heard voices in static and running water but didn't want to get rid of them cause they never said anything distressing and they were familiar and comfortable. that's awesome! how cool is the variance of human experience??

bringing this back for disabled pride month. invisible disabilities count too. if you don't fuck with the mad community i don't fuck with you

This is a really poignant illustration of the seductive nature of glorifying war but that is a LOOK and she is SERVING it

I've seen Death depicted as a card dealer or other sort of gambler, a guy in a suit, a farmer, a robed apparition, and any other number of things, but this? This has to be the best Death I've seen yet. An old seductress saying "hey kid, don't you wanna die in a trench for a government that doesn't give a fuck about you, just like your dear old dad?" This goes hard as fuck.

i cannot express to you how clearly and obviously this is a depiction of war and not death

So poor people don’t deserve to have money?!

THEY’LL JUST WASTE IT ON SURVIVAL!

Also, if you’ve taken more than a high school economics course taught by someone who has never stepped foot in a college economics class,

Giving $500 to poor people multiplies it REALLY FAST. That $500 immediately goes into the economy and ripples more purchases until it hits a rich pocket.

Giving $500 to a billionaire takes $500 out of the economy permenantly. You could have set it on fire and made no difference.

That is such an important part of the conversation that rich people seem to purposefully misunderstand whenever it’s brought up

Money exists to be spent, not hoarded. Yes, people should have saving, but no one should be sitting on a pile of money too big to spend in a single lifetime. “The economy” as a concept only works if people are spending money, and the people hoarding the money are so quick to blame the people who barely have any when the economy starts to fail

Having a big string of numbers in an offshore account doesnt make you an economic genius, it makes you a parasite that is ruining the economy for everyone else

mike flanagan simply cannot make anything without it saying "the horror is a love story. it was hideous and awful and people died and suffered without reason but it came from love, and the love was still good and pure and right for being there. the love created this monster and the cruelty will try to take the love with it too. but it never does, because love always outlives the pain, because it has to, because it's what it was all for."

What we need to do is convince all the disney adults in america that high speed rail would be a preferable way of getting to disneyworld compared to driving or flying. We could maybe harness their fondness for the monorail or something, but this is a group of people that has time, income, and passion that we could leverage. If we could direct 5% of the enthusiasm they have for limited edition popcorn buckets into calling their representatives and demanding high-speed interstate rail, we could get it by 2030

i had three fic ideas.  wrote one.  i still have three fic ideas.  this is not how math is supposed to work.

can this post please back up it’s too close to home

I had five ideas, I wrote two, now I have seven

Listen. They’re called “plot bunnies” for a reason, and it’s not just because they hop around all over your brain demanding attention.

this post walked into my house and kicked in my ribs

For anyone who ever asked me where ideas come from. They creep in and breed when you’re making something else.

Today I introduced my sister to “the problem of Susan” and I had to explain to her that Susan was left out of Narnia cuz she liked boys and lipstick now and without missing a beat she said but what about Peter? Does Peter not like girls? And I knew she was pointing out the inherent misogyny at the center of the “the problem of Susan” but the implications of that question are a source of much hilarity to meeee LMFAO like Does Peter not like girls? Does he like boys? Is he Gay? Is Narnia really just a homo-utopia where Lucy is also a lesbian and Edmund is a bisexual disaster and Susan was kicked out cuz she was too straight??? Can I make CS Lewis turn over in his grave with this new reading?

…I mean they literally were in the closet…

THEY WERE LITERALLY IN THE CLOSET!!!

Reblog to make C.S. Lewis turn over in his grave

TBH, once the nuances were explained to him, I think he’d find it quite funny.

Did you know that after they switched to blind auditions, major symphony orchestras hired women between 30% to 55% more? Before bringing in “blind auditions” with a screen to conceal the the candidate, women in the top 5 major orchestras made up less than 5% of the musicians performing.

so I believe it was actually more complicated than that, in interesting ways. Because at first, when they did blind auditions, they were STILL hiring more men.

…Then they put down a carpet, so that high heels didn’t clack on the floor,  and BOOM women were suddenly getting hired.

The testers didn’t even know that’s what they were picking up on, which just goes to show how tiny of a cue it takes for misogyny to kick in.

The case of blind auditions for orchestras and how it dramatically changed the gender makeup of orchestras is a very illuminating example of gender bias, and an interesting possible way of countering it.
