they/them, 23

say it louder

somehow this post made it to terfs and transphobes who think this means “men who think they’re women are a harmful to women” or “identifying as nonbinary is harmful to [binary] trans people” etc. which is NOT WHAT IT MEANS. the poster of the tweet is nonbinary and trans, and i am nonbinary and trans (and trans women are women, trans men are men, nonbinary identities are valid, etc).

This tweet means that trans identities and pronouns are valid and should be talked about as such. Language matters. I don’t “identify as nonbinary,” I AM nonbinary. I don’t “prefer they/them pronouns,” they/them ARE my pronouns. “Identify as” and “prefer” leave room for doubt and debate, and trans identities are not up for debate.

To reiterate: “Identify as” and “prefer” leave room for doubt and debate, and trans identities are not up for debate.

i think this speaks for itself

Ladies and Gentlemen, remember this advice, for it will be the most important information to know and remember: Punch a nazi, you won’t regret it cuz you’re punching a fascist scumbag

This may be a bit off my usual stuff, but yeah, fuck Nazis

Avatar

The reason they’re so okay with the Nazis coming back is because their grandparents were okay with the Nazis before the war started.

The US - general public opinion - were pretty pro-nazi because they saw them as a way to beat back Communism and socialism in Germany (the two leading parties before the Nazis took power were the Communist KDP and Democratic Socialist SDP) and keep it from spreading from Eastern/Central Europe to the West.

Almost 40% of Americans polled in 1939 wanted to restrict Jewish-owned businesses and “Jewish business methods.” 53% said they thought Jews were too different from them and didn’t want them to “mingle in the wrong places”. 10% wanted to deport all Jews immediately, while 68% said Jews should be barred from immigrating to the US.

These are your grandparents. History may not repeat, but it does rhyme.

Punch a nazi. And dont give me that bullshit about being just as bad as them by resorting to violence. These people openly admit to being racist and are more often than not very willing to be aggressive and violent toward completely INNOCENT people. They are not innocent. They are evil. If you think punching the personification of evil is bad… sorry but we cant be friends any more.

Also, don’t just focus on what you’re against. It’s not just punching Nazis. It’s actively lifting up and supporting Jewish people, and Gay people, and People of Color, etc, etc.

(But yeah, punch Nazis.)

^^^^

Address fascism with mockery and violence where and whenever it rears its ugly head, but unless it does so, focus your energy on supporting and uplifting marginalised people. It helps Jewish people, or queer people, or disabled people, or people of colour, or any other community far more to amplify their voices and organise for their causes than it does to beat your chest and yell about hating TERFs and Nazis.

Everything is like “QUEER history” and “List of QUEER young adult books” or “Top 10 QUEER movies” and queer this and queer that and for the love of god please just say LGBT.

But queer is more inclusive

And faster to pronounce if you are talking instead of writing.

It’s not more inclusive, and if your excuse of using a slur as a blanket term is “it’s faster to say”, GENUINELY what is wrong with you

It’s called economía del lenguaje.

It’s also the respected academic term?? The acronym isn’t static and it’s usage is varied by things like generational difference, location, and knowledge of the community. Even just in the U.S. in the last few decades the common usage gone from GLBT to LGBT to LGBTQ, to LGBTQA/LGBTQIA/LGBTQIAP/etc (Which, let me tell you as someone who has given presentations in the past using these updated acronyms, are all real mouthfulls), to LGBT+.

Also yes, queer is more inclusive! Especially coming at it from an academic standpoint, people didn’t always use or identify with the terms we use now and you can’t always try to cram them into our modern perceptions of sexuality. We can argue for years about whether a famous historical figure was gay or bisexual or straight and trans or whatever, but if we can all agree that they were somehow queer then using that term allows us to move past the debate and into productive discussion. And not everybody everywhere shares the same terms for sexual and gender identity, or even the same concepts of those things, so queer really is a more inclusive term in a lot of cases.

Like yeah if you’re talking specifically about gay or trans people you can just say gay or transgender, but if you’re talking about more than one identity or someone who doesn’t conform to our perceptions of ‘LGBT,’ or a person or people whose identity you don’t know, queer is just the better word.

“That’s SO gay”, “Oh my god, you’re not a LESBIAN, are you?”

Your words are slurs, too. Why do you get your words, but I don’t get mine? What makes you so special?

I’m here, I’m queer, go fuck yourself.

baby gays,,,, i beg of you to learn your queer history and stop listening to terf bullshit

every single one of our labels has been used as a slur against us.

terfs and -phobes are always going to try and hurt us with what we identify as. but the fact remains these are OUR labels and always have been.

we’re here, we’re queer, get used to it.

I don’t know if this is just because I’m not American but I’ve never heard queer used as a slur. Ever. Meanwhile gay was the insult in the 2000s here. Everything you didn’t like was ‘soo gay’. Queer wasn’t even a word most of us knew back then.

It just baffled me that people would think an identifier is automatically a slur just because someone uses it to mock someone. If we did that gay would be a slur. Stupid would be a slur. Autistic would be a slur.

The reason people are upset about the word queer is that it’s a unifying term. You can say you’re queer and all people will know is that you’re part of the community. But you can’t say you’re LGBT, you have to say you’re gay or trans or ace. They don’t want you to be ambiguously queer. They want you to say which kind of queer you are so they can decide whether you’re undesirable.

yeah in the 90s and early 2000s kids would call each other “gay” as an insult. But no one ties themselves in knots over whether “gay” is a slur. So yeah, please ffs learn your history.

They want you to say which kind of queer you are so they can decide whether you’re undesirable.

i hate when rich people condescend with the whole 'money can't buy happiness' argument like listen. just because buying your fourth car didn't fill the void in your deluded disconnected-from-reality life doesn't mean not having to worry about food/ bills/medicine wouldn't greatly improve the mental health of literally everyone else on the planet

every person can feel freddie’s presence in their souls when they sing MAMAAAAAA UUHHHH, I DONT WANNA DIE, I SOMETIMES I WISH I’VE NEVER BEEN BORN AT ALL with all the air in their lungs i’m not joking

it’s fucking crazy to think about the amount of people who have sung bohemian rhapsody? like it’s such a unifying song, by nature of the fact that so many people know it. it holds so many good memories for me and other people. it’s a song you scream in the car with your friends while you drive around your boring hometown, it’s a song you drunkenly sing with your arm around your best friend, or a song you sing along to with strangers when it’s on in public. it’s bittersweet to think about freddie’s legacy carrying on like that through his masterpiece. freddie carries on because he’s a part of so many people’s good memories and bohemian rhapsody is a huge part of that.

Reblog if you have sung bohemian rhapsody with your friends

every time i see this post i’m reminded of the video of 65,000 people singing bohemian rhapsody in near-perfect harmony

like, what other song can make that claim?

Some of the highlights of that video include:

  • The crowd cheering after the first stanza when they realize what they’re all doing
  • So many people audibly ‘doing the guitar parts’… like ya do
  • The sheer number of voices joining the rediculous falsetto (thanks, Roger)
  • How they all start jumping at the ramp-up “so you think you can stomp me”
  • Hands up, hundreds, thousands deep for the final “ooooo”s and the last line to close the song

Only days before my state went into lockdown, “Bohemian Rhapsody” came on in the restaurant kitchen I’d just been hired at and, no shit, every single worker in that little diner started singing along. Me (the only queer afaik), the manager, all the other kitchen workers, the dishwasher up front, the two people on the counter, all but two of the men over 30. Just belting out Freddie Mercury at the top of their lungs. And you can bet when “sometimes I wish I’d never been born at all” came around, we every single one of us ramped up the intensity and basically made sure Freddie could hear us in the afterlife.

Really concerned that anti capitalism Discourse has developed into “if you have any money at all, you’re evil and part of the problem”

Like someone who spends $200 on a practical purse is not the problem with capitalism

John Boyega having a net worth of $6 mil after multiple high profile years in the film industry is not the problem with capitalism

The enemy is the billionaires that hoard wealth and banks and companies that control entire swaths of the economy

Don’t let the guy with $200 billion convince you, who makes less than $30k a year, that the doctor making $150k a year is the enemy

The enemy is like a few dozen people and a few dozen huge banks and companies

The best part is the fact that out of the two of them Martha Stewart was the one who went to prison.

Wait…what?

also he has every right to make fun of kanye west considering snoop has had a successful career for about two decades including his own cookbook and appearing in movies whereas kanye is a flat earther who had to crowdfund another album because he ran out of money despite kim kardashian being with him, not having the money to produce another album should be the metric when you know you can tell a musician has failed somewhere in either money management or actually being a musician rather then a famous trainwreck

snoop dogg is a good man who loves cooking, nature, and supporting the dreams of young children in poverty. kanye west helped get trump elected.

seriously though check out his cookbook its beautiful

and filled with lgiht humor, legit cooking, and charming life stories

Whenever I think about snoop I remember that episode of cribs where he lived in an unusually modest house compared to everyone else on that show, spent the entire time with his young daughter hugging onto his leg and dragging her around as he walked. He even talked about how he didn’t want his kids to be musicians and that he just wants them to have a chance at a normal life / he doesn’t wish music career drama on anyone

Image

The dude is mega down to earth for having a networth of 135 million dollars and staying relevant for longer than some of the top charting musicians have been alive

he says he keeps a supply of poptarts in the house for his nieces/nephews and grandkids but admits theyre really for him and then goes on to discuss what selection of condiments your fridge should have to jazz up leftover takeout hes one of the most thoroughly human humans ive ever known of

Doesn’t he also coach football for kids, and stops smoking during the season to set a good example for the kids?

all these people going on about how Hozier is the peak representation of musical soft masculinity when Snoop has been out here rocking the smoothest braids and most hype manicures for decades

Have you seen his Planet Earth voiceover video? It’s the best thing I’ve ever heard. Man knows nothing about otters

Can everyone who reads this PLEASE reblog it?!?!?  Libraries literally saved my life as a child!

Being abused at home, bullied at school and lost in the world, the library and all the books I could escape to the most amazing worlds, kept me alive!

I would walk to the library, and spend all day, from 10 am to 9 pm reading there!! I got special awards for how many books I read, I wrote little blurbs on why i loved the books (probably why I love to BETA and do ARCs)

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE Just hit the green arrows and the reblog!!!

As a 50 year old woman, the library offers me so much. Digital art pads to borrow, 3D printing, book clubs that are face to face (yeah, the introvert likes face to face because a moderator will stomp on anyone getting snarky)

New books in LARGE PRINT! I’m visually challenged and as much as I love my kindle, The feel of a real book in my hands will always be a beloved feeling!

Our library also has quarterly books sales of almost free books!! For 5$USD we get in a day early and can buy as many as we want. Anyone else has to wait and there is a limit for the first 2 days.

Also many, many libraries have inter library loan(it may be called something different). This means if they don’t have the item you want, they can get it for you. This may include photocopy/pdf of articles. This can also include along with books and DVDs, microfilm/fiche which is also a huge resource. Check around for libraries that are listed as depositories if you want to look at government documents.

Remember that many colleges and universities have open stacks for the public. You will likely have to pay a membership fee but you will get to stuff.

My library is a tiny town. For some reason it has a film studio space with lights and mics and a little editing booth setup for voice overs, and a green screen.

It also has a room dedicated to a fleet of 3D printers, a laser etcher, and a laser wood CUTTER.

Plus FREE classes to learn how to use all that equipment!

big fan of polite and minimal explanations when you need to get out of work, school, plans etc. just a definitive ‘sorry but I can’t make it today.’ and then if they press for details or are rude about it say ‘sorry, something came up. thanks for understanding’ i’m over the idea that you have to exaggerate/overexplain your situation even when you don’t want to do that to be worthy of flexibility and grace in your life

This is Doris Pollas, the cofounder of the organisation now known as lgbt+ Denmark which by being founded in 1948 is one of the oldest if not the oldest queer organisation in the world.

Doris lived in a farm in Jutland as a child. She was always butch and figured out she was a lesbian in her teens. When she heard about a club in copenhagen where boys kissed boys and girls kissed girls she went just some months after and it was through that club she started a paper connecting queer people all up to seventies and co founded lgbt+ Denmark.

She is now 97 year and wishes for every queer person to have an as loving and accepting family as she did.

I don’t see a lot of older gays from my country, so learning about Doris, a masc lesbian, was really nice.

when you tell a girl her outfit is really cute and she does a little pose thing then smiles, reblog if u agree

When you tell a girl her outfit is really cute and she immediately tells you where she got it

When you tell a girl her outfit is cute and she shoves her hands in previously unseen holes and squees with excitement, “It has pockets!”

When you tell a girl her outfit is cute, and she goes into a long story about the history behind it/who she got it from and why it is sentimental to her

When you tell a girl her outfit is she, and shes like ‘thanks, I stole it’

girl :)

they do this so that they can prove people use the library, figure out what books are popular so they can make sure to get more like it or further entries in a series, and to figure out what times the library is more buisy while ive never killed a person in a library (yet) i do sometimes unshelve additional books to boost the statistics thus resulting in increased funding for the library, however small

the cure to self-sabotage is to anchor yourself to the universal truth that you are worth it. you are worth the effort. you are worth the difficulty, you are worth the time, you are worth the consideration. there is never a point in your life, in time itself, that you are not worth it. return to this truth when you feel yourself slipping. do not let it go.

Simone Biles saying “Mental health is more important than sports” on the biggest platform she could have possibly done it from is why she’s incredible, actually

Just wanna say I appreciate all the folks who know about gymnastics pointing out that the fact she landed at all, and isn’t paralyzed, maimed or dead, is a miracle, that her superior athleticism saved her, but You don’t have to be the greatest gymnast who ever lived to say “I’m sorry, but I can’t do this right now.”

You deserve to take care of yourself, that’s what self-care really is. It’s knowing your limits and saying so before you get hurt.

Doc, what are the top five items food banks LOVE to receive? I'm doing a collection soon and want to ask for specifics.

Avatar

MONEY. WE WANT MONEY. MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY. WE CAN DO SO MUCH WITH IT. WE HAVE ACCESS TO DEALS YOU COULD NEVER. MONEY

That aside.

I’m only going to talk about food items but if your food bank takes personal items, a lot of times diapers, feminine hygiene products, etc, are very very welcome.

1) Canned chicken and beef

looooooove this stuff. It’s expensive, it lasts forever, it tastes good and it can be used a variety of ways. This stuff is fucking catnip to food banks, it’s so hard for us to provide proteins.

2) Fancy nut butters

Peanut butter is a standby for food banks as a shelf-stable inexpensive protein, but if we have a family with a kid with a peanut allergy that’s not going to work. Non-peanut butters are expensive and it’s something we hardly ever see donated. (we also like peanut butter, but that’s easier for us to buy ourselves than non-peanut butters)

3) Canned or packaged tuna

You may notice a trend here in shelf-stable proteins. And yeah. That’s basically it, so I’m not going to keep harping on it. But this stuff is a godsend.

4) Easy breakfast things for kids (Granola bars, instant oatmeal, and the like)

Whatever Donald Trump tells you, most people who get food from food banks are actually working their asses off and so they have to leave Obama to raise their baby or whatever, and they don’t have a lot of time in the morning. Things like this that kids can make for themselves are expensive. (Another trend you may be noticing–donate shit that costs a lot of money. That helps us more than all the shitty green bean cans in the world) But they are so helpful for busy working families where the parents may not have a set schedule and sometimes little Amanda is making her own breakfast before she runs off to school. Don’t let kids go to school hungry.

5) Shelf-stable juice

This is one people never think of! But if you show up with a bunch of (preferably reduced sugar stuff) bottles of juice at my door, oh man, you are gonna get so many check mark and okay hand emoticons. This stuff is great for kids, and it doesn’t require refrigeration until it’s opened, so it works great for food drives.

Avatar

But seriously, give money

And it’s way better food, too, anything you get prepackaged has A TON of sugar and/or salt in it…collecting cans may be more exciting than writing a check, but if the point is to help people, the check is going to get a lot more done

Yoooooo heads up for those of you with kids, I know this time of year schools start holding canned food drives so keep this in mind if you’re able to give.

The absurd breed standards are a recent thing, developed in the past 100-150 years. The healthier breeds are much closer to their 19th century ancestors.

A pair of French bulldogs painted by Carl Reichert (1836-1918)

“Sweet Temptation or Willpower”

Charles Van den Eycken, 1891.

“Sweet temptation or willpower” I love that painting so much

are they hot or are they just skinny. do they have great style or are they just skinny. do you want their gender or are they just skinny.

couple clowns in the notes going “there’s more to it than just weight” “skinny and hot aren’t mutually exclusive” missing the entire point

the standards thin people have to meet, and the effort they have to put in, to be considered exceptional are very low, because (consciously and subconsciously) thinness itself is viewed as a redeeming trait

surely this phenonemon is worth examining without the assumption anyone who brings it up is, like, by default being a hater or w/e
