standing in the ocean. candles. my dog’s perfect side eyes. going to the theatre. dissecting the inner core of a story with someone who wants to listen. video calling ailith or just calling my other friends. rainy mornings. finally finishing a book i meant to get to ages ago. sending mail to my penpals. cooking breakfast for my coworkers when we’re all exhausted but joking together. singing as loud as i possibly can when i’m driving alone in my car. every time my mutuals dm me images that remind them of me/that they think i’d like.

only to go back to my worst moments, to the kid with curls hiding under his blankie & to the hurt, terribly confused teen playing a part 24 hours a day to cry himself to sleep at night. i’d go back in time to hold him & tell him i carry that kid, every person we were, with me every day. & that even though he doesn’t believe it yet, i’d tell him over & over that one day he’ll wake up & feel like he belongs in the bones & flesh he carries. that even though it sounds impossible, one day he’ll love being himself.
