Never trade respect for attention🌾
Maybe we shouldn’t talk. Maybe we should remove each other from each other’s life completely. Maybe. Maybe you’ll never be with me. Maybe you’ll never realize how good I’d be to you. Maybe you’ll push me away forever. Maybe you’ll use me another 3 times giving me more false hope. Maybe you’ll call me next week in the middle of be night confessing your love to me. Maybe you’ll look at me and see how perfect I am for you. Maybe you’ll realize how much I put up with for you and what I’d do for you. Maybe you’ll decide to let me love you. Maybe you’ll say fuck it and be with me. Maybe you’ll let me in. Maybe. Maybe. Maybe. Maybe I won’t be here when that happens.

Writing is an underestimated art, you are painting colorful images in people’s minds by using words of black and white.

When I was in college, a teacher once said that all women live by a ā€˜rape schedule.’ I was baffled by the term, but as she went on to explain, I got really freaked out. Because I realized that I knew exactly what she was talking about. And you do too. Because of their constant fear of rape (conscious or not), women do things throughout the day to protect themselves. Whether it’s carrying our keys in our hands as we walk home, locking our car doors as soon as we get in, or not walking down certain streets, we take precautions. While taking precautions is certainly not a bad idea, the fact that certain things women do are so ingrained into our daily routines is truly disturbing. It’s essentially like living in a prison – all the time. We can’t assume that we’re safe anywhere: not on the streets, not in our homes. And we’re so used to feeling unsafe that we don’t even see that there’s something seriously fucked up about it.

You live like this, sheltered, in a delicate world, and you believe you are living. Then you read a book… or you take a trip… and you discover that you are not living, that you are hibernating. The symptoms of hibernating are easily detectable: first, restlessness. The second symptom (when hibernating becomes dangerous and might degenerate into death): absence of pleasure. That is all. It appears like an innocuous illness. Monotony, boredom, death. Millions live like this (or die like this) without knowing it. They work in offices. They drive a car. They picnic with their families. They raise children. And then some shock treatment takes place, a person, a book, a song, and it awakens them and saves them from death. Some never awaken.

You are stronger than you realise. You are crueller than you realise. The smallest words will break your heart. You will change. You’re not the same person you were three years ago. You’re not even the same person you were three minutes ago and that’s okay. Especially if you don’t like the person you were three minutes ago. People come and go. Some are cigarette breaks, others are forest fires. You won’t like your name until you hear someone say it in their sleep. You’ll forget your email password but ten years from now you’ll still remember the number of steps up to his flat. You don’t have to open the curtains if you don’t want to. Never stop yourself texting someone. If you love them at 4 a.m., tell them. If you still love them at 9.30 a.m., tell them again. Make sure you have a safe place. Whether it’s the kitchen floor or the Travel section of a bookshop, just make sure you have a safe place. You will be scared of all kinds of things, of spiders and clowns and eating alone, but your biggest fear will be that people will see you the way you see yourself. Sometimes, looking at someone will be like looking into the sun. Sometimes someone will look at you like you are the sun. Wait for it. You will learn how to sleep alone, how to avoid the cold corners but still fill a bed. Always be friends with the broken people. They know how to survive. You can love someone and hate them, all at once. You can miss them so much you ache but still ignore your phone when they call. You are good at something, whether it’s making someone laugh or remembering their birthday. Don’t ever let anyone tell you that these things don’t matter. You will always be hungry for love. Always. Even when someone is asleep next to you you’ll envy the pillow touching their cheek and the sheet hiding their skin. Loneliness is nothing to do with how many people are around you but how many of them understand you. People say I love you all the time. Even when they say, ā€˜Why didn’t you call me back?’ or ā€˜He’s an asshole.’ Make sure you’re listening. You will be okay. You will be okay.

You have to stop worrying about finding love again. It will come when it comes. Get comfortable with being alone. It will empower you.

Right now you might not feel the best you’ve ever felt, you might feel that things will get better. But don’t give up. Tomorrow you might see something wonderful The thing you’re worrying about may be resolved. You might have a good day tomorrow, you may smile. In a few years time the things that are making you feel like this will be forgotten about.
