What is it? A piece that I love. Is it merry? Not merry. But it’s lively.

Portrait of a Lady on Fire (2019) dir. Céline Sciamma

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) Carrie (1976) Ginger Snaps (2000) The Descent (2005) Byzantium (2012) Evil Dead (2013) Revenge (2018) Ready or Not (2019) It: Chapter 2 (2019)

The downfall of Star Wars rests with producers at Disney who somehow convinced themselves (and us) that a blockbuster trilogy didn’t need the presence of any kind of overarching narrative architect to ensure at least a modicum of tonal or philosophical consistency. It was an act of pure hubris—a supremely corporate, unearned sense of confidence that IP and branding mattered far more than a carefully planned story. In the end, trilogy isnt even the right word, because it implies the existence of three films that fit together in a planned, form-fitting way, as three chapters of a single story. These films? They aren’t a trilogy. They’re more like direct rebukes of each other.

In 15 seconds of dialogue Francis Wilkerson sums up what’s wrong with how women are criticized in our society and it’s great

I literally remember when this aired and something clicked in my head. He was putting to words what I kept seeing over and over in media without apology or explanation
