A while ago I read about autistic people and nesting somewhere & I think we don't talk about that enough. Apparently, a lot of autistic people like nesting. I love nesting. I carefully choose a space to build my nest and I bring all my little trinkets there. I surround myself with everything I love and everything I could possibly need in the next few hours- my water bottle, a snack, my weighted blanket, my soft blanket, hand creme, my headphones, my charger, my favorite stuffed animals- so I don't have to leave the nest to get anything. It makes me feel save and calm and like everything is gonna be ok. This is a nesting appreciation post. Any other autistics who love a good nest?

I've done posts about nesting! I love my little nest. I'm writing from it right now. 😁

Oh… So that’s what I’ve been doing sitting on the floor in the corner of my room for the past several months…

Being Asian on the internet is hard bc someone w a name like...IDK Akihiko or Jungkook interacts w my post and I gotta squint like...are you ACTUALLY Asian or are u white and racist and just totally unaware of the meaning and very specific racism Asian ppl receive abt our names.

9/10 times it's the latter or like a kin thing or smth and it's like...please I am begging u my Asian soul gets a bit shaved off every time I see a selfie of some "Ju-won" and they're snow white.

BTW white ppl can and are encouraged to reblog this!

There was a time, before my name was legally changed, when I brought my original Chinese name with me to the States and that was registered at my schools. Nobody could pronounce it or would learn to pronounce it. Nobody even bothered trying to spell it right. It was embarrassing. Dehumanizing, even.

But when white people™️ give themselves made up Asian names for aesthetic purposes, all of a sudden, it's so cool and everyone is so on board.

Every member of my family with a Viet given name had to give themselves a white name. It’s really not hard to learn how to say Phuong. We shouldn’t have to let go of the names our families give us just to please white people and their lazy tongues.

You would think that the biggest risk of trying out something new is that you won't like it, but it's when it's so good it raises your standards where the real problems start

"out of provolone? How am I supposed to eat a sandwich without provolone?" - girl who put provolone on her sandwich for the first time this week

I will pretty much instantly distrust a fellow leftist if they paint the enemy as being ugly (’all terfs have bad hair’, ‘all far-right bros are fat people with neck beards’, etc). It shows me they haven’t done some of the most basic work of un-linking appearance from character, which leaves them open to a vast array of bigoted tropes, from fatphobia, ableism and classism to homophobia, transphobia antisemitism and racism, because who we see as ‘attractive’ or looking ‘wholesome’ and who we assume to look ‘untrustworthy’ or villainous’  has been coded by all these things.

lots of people in the notes pointing out that this is also true about:

  • Dismissing people because of their age
  • Pretending that the people who disagree with you are ‘unintelligent’ and the people who agree with you are ‘smart’
  • Accusing the people you disagree with of having some mental illness.
  • Accents and speech patterns
  • Mocking personal hygiene
  • Mocking someone not getting laid or mocking genital size or shape
  • Mocking lack of productivity and independence (’you probably live in your moms basement’ stuff)

And YES. You are all right. These are all bad reasons to claim superiority over someone and every time someone brings up this stuff their ageism/ableism/classism/sexism/etc is showing.

And ya know, 99 out of 100 times, the person(s) that you’re insulting either can’t hear you or doesn’t really care what you have to say. But the fat people, disabled people, mentally ill people, etc. in your own community do hear and feel a little less safe in that community because of you. Do better.

Your -isms are showing -

Your friends are the ones it will hurt.

i mean this completely seriously but… a cup of coffee can save your life a little, a shower can save your life a little, making your favorite meal can save your life a little…….little things actually add up to really big things in the long run if you let them, the secret to surviving everyday is infusing a little bit of magic into the mundane i truly believe that

Every few years I remember that the Alternative Limb Project exists and get blown away once more by their work.

This one is half hyper-realistic, and half swapable sections based on the woman's personality, moods, and spirituality.

This one comes with a DRONE and has control panels in the wrist and forearm, as well as a flashlight and laser pointer.

This one is older, from 2012, but I still love it. Shiny shiny.

This one has a WORKING CUCKOO CLOCK IN THE KNEE. A WORKING. CUCKOO CLOCK.

Another older one, this one with realistic snake.

This is a two part one, dedicated to railway workers/builders/passengers who lost limbs. The limbs can be hooked together to allow the little train to travel between them.

This one is a literal swiss army knife arm, full of survival supplies.

Just. GAH. They are all so neat.

The project was started by Sophie de Oliveira Barata and you really have to check out her work: https://thealternativelimbproject.com/
