Cryptids & Creatures of Folklore Drawtober Day 17 — Sinkhole Sam

In the early 1900s, residents of Inman, Kansas began witnessing a strange creature in the Big Sinkhole Lake. It was described as eel or snake-like, anywhere from 15 to 30 feet in length, and fond of frightening fisherman in and around the lake. Nicknamed Sinkhole Sam, hundreds of sightings were reported in following years. Some reports even claimed Sam was capable of leaving the water and attacking people and livestock on land.

Cryptids & Creatures of Drawtober Day 14 — Gosse's White-Flippered Whale

In November of 1844, English naturalist Philip Henry Gosse was returning home from an expedition to Jamaica to collect specimens for study when he encountered a pod of at least twelve cetaceans in the North Atlantic Ocean. He and the crew of his vessel would go on to observe these whales for over seventeen hours.

Gosse described the whales as being approximately 30 ft in length, slender, small dorsal fin set far back, a flat head with no pleats on the throat like baleen whales, and black in color except for tan around the mouth and stark white flippers and belly. Now referred to as Gosse's White-Flippered Whales, some theorize that they were an unknown or misidentified species of beaked whale however, Gosse's description sounds more like a mink whale to me—perhaps misidentified, perhaps an undiscovered species.

Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) works for the health and dignity of Palestinians living under occupation and as refugees. They provide immediate medical aid to those in great need, while also developing local capacity and skills to ensure the long-term development of the Palestinian healthcare system. 

Addameer Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association is a Palestinian non-governmental civil institution that works to support Palestinian political prisoners held in Israeli and Palestinian prisons.

Samidoun is an international network of organizers and activists working to build solidarity with Palestinian prisoners in their struggle for freedom.

Refuser Solidarity Network provides crucial support to Israel's military refusers in the toughest of political circumstances. They provide funds for for demonstrations outside prison, for legal fees, for media campaigns that tell conscientious objector’s stories to the general public, for education programs for Israeli and American audiences about their important resistance to the occupation.
