You Know artfight team vampire is going to lose. Like yeah it's probably gonna have way more signups but ten humanoid artists can't compete with the endurance of one furry

to be quite honest i am yet to hear a compelling GWitch critique which isn't advancing from a sense of betrayed expectations. personally, i've been loving the last few episodes—sappy a take as it presents, I had thought we were all clear on recognising that the show so far has very much been about fucked up interpersonal relations.

this is a gundam series without war. from the first moment the corporate intrigue has possessed all of the adult characters to make shortsighted and ineffectual decisions to the foremost effect of fucking up their own relationships and happiness. everyone is either related (by blood or the stronger corporate bond) or a classmate. whenever the kids fuck up and hurt eachother, it's been motivated by their parent's direct and lingering influences. whenever the parents fuck up and hurt their kids, it's been a complicated mess of Capitalism Bad amplifying their stress and character flaws to the end result of Child Trauma and Parental Dissatisfcation. most of the kids have settled into rather comfortable alliances beyond the influence of corporatism, or are beginning to. they are coming into their own when it comes to familial relations, all in their own ways—suletta gains some independence, guel gains some consciousness, miorine gains the vital life skill that is learning to grit your teeth and demean yourself in order to get what you want, even if that muddles what you'd have liked to do and feel otherwise. all complexifying, and they've all followed different paths with it—hell, look at El5n's behaviour taking a 180 the moment he learns he can find comfort and security in life beyond playing The Prince to appease his captors. i've barely said a thing, but i assure you, i could go on—we would be here all day, because all of this stuff is really good for an oligarchy hellworld coming-of-age.

i do agree with the common complaint that earth has been underutilised so far, but its actually done its job within the narrative bounds we're working in. it's primary role thus far is as a sociopolitical background underpinning all of Earth House and Shaddiq's decision-making. that's a significant portion of the cast primarily motivated by that entire other half of the setting beyond Benerit. i believe they've set it up as a setting to explore in depth in any future cours, but so far, it's still served quite a privileged role. what do we know about mercury, or any other planet, for that matter? the earth kids don't have a corporate-familial background, they have a political one—and, hey, their common interests and empathy stemming from it have been pretty consistently shown to be the healthy alternative. shaddiq's the obvious foil there: same motivations, but caught up in the methodology of his adoptive family and the group as a whole. he only has superficial relationships beyond Miorine, and he doesn't bungle his liberation plans on the basis of them being a Poor Move (as Miorine said, all of these kids have murdered people and gotten away with it)—he bungles them because, as he has continuously done, he lets his anxiety-masquerading-as-suspicion amplify his stewing anger and makes a suicidal charge into a schoolboy's slapfight screaming about rashness and Miorine when he's failed to make any actual contingencies. that's on incompetence amplified by indignation. why not leave him for that uncertain future cour? well, i think they've done more than enough with his character to warrant the writers settling him for a moment in case of ratings/sales failure. making popular anime doesn't give creative talent the luxury of slow-cooking everything to 200-episode perfection—you contain your ideas to the bare minimum required for narrative and thematic coherence, and then you elaborate those until you have depth and focus—that is how you make something worth a damn, with enough of its ends closed.

(one legitimate critique you could make is that it's been shown primarily for misery porn to advance guel/miorine/norea's arcs. this is true. my counterpoint is that you are watching a Super Robot show. it works in character drama and grand narratives of war. gundam deals with themes of revolution and the plight of the oppressed very often, but you're in the wrong genre for exploring the woes of the non-combatant impoverished.)

point being, whenever i walk into GWitch bashing, i get the sense that people want a different show. this two-cour run has been exciting and provocative on the core ideas it's been angling since minute one. the prologue may have told a different kind of story, but it's functionally worldbuilding—we've seen that tone return, and not that setting, because it is pretext rather than preview. when it comes to criticism of the show itself, it always seems about what's not being said or explored—why didn't we see this scene? why did Miorine start acting chummy with her dad? why aren't we seeing a story about Vanadis, or Earth? the only two responses i can think to give to those critiques are "what got you caught up on that?" and "where do you think they'd fit this in?". it's missing the narrative for the scenes and setting. fiction born from the kind of intensive production which goes into a Gundam anime doesn't have the luxury of belabouring every element. if you feel that something is missing, thematically or in narrative focus, you want to watch a different anime better suited to your interests, or read a serial novel which has to milk every element to death.

TL;DR: i watched Darling in the Franxx live. Nobody can convince me this show is wasted potential, much less falling apart.

it's good for your mental health to have mutuals who are wildly horny about kinks which do nothing at all for you

Avatar

this is both as in. sometimes you will realise that actually these kinks do do something for you and that can be very eye-opening and liberating

and also as in. sometimes you will hear someone decry these kinks as indicative of moral failing, and being friends with people like this makes you immune to that sort of knee-jerk outrage

Also primes you for awareness that there are a lot of people who like a lot of things you don’t like or even that make you uncomfortable, and that is okay, has nothing to do with their character, and is also none of your business.

tbh the submarine thing is the perfect demonstration of the thing a load of studies have borne out, where the more wealth someone has, the more likely they are to DRASTICALLY overestimate their competence in basically any field.

plus, tho I don't personally know of any studies into this, I also think it's pretty clear that wealth creates what I think of as the 'Nothing Bad Ever Happens To The Kennedys!!' mindset, where wealth insulates some people from consequences so much that it also makes them drastically overestimate their ability to survive danger.

saw some videos of the late Oceangate CEO bragging how he'd 'broken the rules' when it game to the construction of the Titan and in hindsight it's painfully apparent that the phenomenon I talk about above was heavily in play.

The guy essentially had actual submarine experts screaming 'MATE WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING THIS IS A TERRIBLE IDEA' at him and he clearly took this to mean he was a fearless iconoclast and not an idiot about to doom himself and four other people to maybe the worst possible way to die a human being can experience.

isnt it insane that merry and pippin spent like the span of weeks apart in different countries and immediately made new besties whose lives they save in their final battles. like merry strikes the blow on the witch king that lets eowyn kill him and pippin pulls faramir out of denethor's pyre. and then eowyn and faramir ended up marrying each other. isn't that wild. were merry and pippin conspiring in the houses of healing like hey i think my new best friend would be great with your new best friend how quickly do you think we can get them to fall in love. was there great hobbit cacophony when faramir kisses eowyn on the ramparts. i think yes.

I absolutely love the language of my mother’s people

I believe linguistically the term is called Comparative Reduplication! And while a lot of languages have it, including many Indigenous American ones, Yoruba culture holds a lot of influence over how Black Diaspora and AAVE have been shaped. It’s a good video.

This is SO COOL thank you for sharing this!
