199 | I finished The Trial today and…wow. Just wow. This is the kind of book that keeps you thinking about it hours/days/weeks after you’ve finished. I can’t really say that I enjoyed it but frankly, I don’t think you’re supposed to enjoy it. In true Kafka style, it’s a frustrating, surrealist nightmare. Characters are beholden to invisible power-dynamics and a quite literally suffocating shadow-legal system. It was intended as a critique of bureaucracy in turn of the 20th century but man, if it doesn’t still hit home today…
