She/Her/Hers • 23 • Current hyperfixation: Star Wars

Best idea for a sitcom:

Not Your Mother’s Telenovela

A Latina 14-year-old girl has a perfectly normal family, except for the fact her mother is an ex-telenovela star. The show is filled with her mother’s spotlight-stealing antics, stories of her days as a celebrity, her little brothers’ crazy schemes, her grandmother (father’s side) trying to reel the mother in, and her nerdy introverted father trying to keep the drama contained.

The first season leads up to the daughter’s quince, trying to get what she wants and not what her mother is trying to create.

There’s ongoing bits:

  1. People (adults and kids) being shocked at the girl’s awkward father being able to land someone like her mother
  2. Random fans asking her mother for photos and autographs at awkward times
  3. Her little brothers making schemes to get out of responsibilities. They on occasion use their schemes for good to help their family members out at comedic moments
  4. The grandmother randomly dropping incredible events in her life nonchalantly as if they’re not the coolest thing ever
  5. Her mother comforting her daughter by comparing plots or scenes in her telenovela to the daughter’s real life problems, but they actually help in the end

Over time, the daughter comes to appreciate her mother’s experiences and personality. And, at the end of every episode, the family sits down to dinner as one with love and laughter. (Except for the occasional dramatic cliffhanger)

Oh— and the mother’s parents (her mom insists the kids call her Tía instead of Abuela) sometimes drop in, in all their rich and fancy glory, and remind everyone where the mother got her flair for the dramatic. They tend to accidentally make a mess of things in their desire to make happy moments with their family, but of course fix things in the end.

The order in which you saw Tim Curry’s filmography growing up is incredibly important. For example, I saw it as:

  1. Barbie in the Nucracker
  2. Beauty and the Beast: the Enchanted Christmas
  3. Valiant
  4. Garfield: a Tale of Two Kitties
  5. The Secret of Moonacre
  6. Home Alone 2
  7. Annie
  8. Clue
  9. Rocky Horror Picture Show

As you can see, the pipeline from Children’s Curry eventually leads to Camp Curry

Casual cruelty has become so ingrained in a lot of people because we live in a society that is structured in a cruel way. To be quite honest you are obligated to consider the harm of your words and actions no matter your personal hardships.
