Say what you will about the Jerome/Mara/Willow cheating thing going on in House of Anubis season 3, but I think it was handled poorly by the writers.

Jerome is many things… a prankster, a schemer, a swindler, etc.  The one thing that Jerome is not, and the one thing that I will say until the day I die, is a cheater.  I know Jerome cheating is canon, but the writers took a misunderstood character that has a heart of gold and brought him out of character just because they wanted to make Jeroy happen.  Honestly, I could re-write that whole storyline in a way that stays true to Jerome’s character, allows Jeroy to happen in a similar fashion, and it wouldn’t even be that complicated to accomplish.

First, have season 3 begin as it did in canon.  Mara and Jerome are still a couple, but things go sideways during the business studies project causing Mara to call things off for a while with Jerome.  Willow comes into the picture, helping him find a way to get Mara back, only for Willow and Jerome to end up in detention and failing to win Mara back.  In detention, Jerome realizes that he might like Willow, but after returning from detention, Mara is willing to make-up and they’re back together.  Back in detention with Willow, Jerome can’t bring himself to confess to Willow that he’s back with Mara, and when things turn romantic, they share a kiss in detention.

Now is where things start to change in my version.  Jerome confesses this to Alfie, but he decides to come clean to both Mara and Willow about how conflicted he’s feeling.  He tells them both he needs time to figure out how he feels.  This causes Willow and Mara to start to pursue Jerome as if it’s a competition.  Willow could even still do her poem and Mara could still do her song at the talent show.  When this fails to win Jerome over for either of them, this only causes things to escalate between Mara and Willow.  When they’re paired on the Eclipse project, this only adds to the riff between Mara and Willow than what’s canon.  (”Jerome wants stories,” says Willow.  “No, Jerome wants science,” says Mara.  “I know what Jerome wants”, Willow replies.  “How can you?  I’ve been with Jerome a lot longer than you have!” Mara exclaims.  “But I knew him way before he knew you!” Willow yells back.)

Jerome, at the “eclipse project”, wants to see what Mara and Willow are doing, as his mind isn’t made up yet.  But then, of course, enter Sweetie and Victor, and he must help Team Evil reawaken Robert.  That plays out pretty similar, except Jerome misses the presentation altogether.  Willow and Mara give conflicting reports on what happened, confusing Jerome even more.  As things get worse between Mara and Willow, eventually Jerome confesses he’s made up his mind: He’s dating neither of them.  Jerome tells them that he’s not a game show prize to be fought over, and the competition has shown him both of their true colors.

Both are heartbroken at first, but Willow moves on more quickly than Mara.  Even Willow starts dating Alfie, while Mara is still devastated over her breakup with Jerome.  Enter the sisterhood revenge plan: Joy is convinced by Mara to fake date Jerome because he doesn’t know what it’s like for his heart to be broken, and the story continues on as mostly canon from there (obviously, the play would be slightly different to mirror the events in this version, maybe gender-swapped so that it’s the female breaking Jerome’s character’s heart, but you get the idea).

What’s better about this version is that the revenge plot is not just played for laughs at the beginning and then taken for a dark turn with the introduction to Jeroy.  By having the first and only plan for revenge be having Joy fake being in love with Jerome, when Joy actually falls for Jerome, it causes Mara to be seen genuinely heartbroken and not just out for revenge at the end of the season, like when she tells Joy that Jerome broke her heart and not Joy’s, or when Fabian commends Mara for letting Joy be happy with Jerome.

This also causes everyone’s character to have a more truthful version of themselves.  Jerome is not a cheater, Willow is a free spirit and quick to forgive and move on from Jerome, and Mara is interfering in Jerome’s love life out of revenge, similar to what she did to Mick in season 1 with Ms. Robertson.  Joy is just thrown in the middle of this, but in the end, she finds happiness with Jerome.  Above all: Jerome is not a cheater in this version.  When Jerome started justifying cheating in the canon version of the show, part of me was like “This is the scheming side of Jerome I’m familiar with from season one”, but the other part of me thought “This isn’t Jerome right now; the writers just threw away all sorts of growth he did in the past two seasons just to make the plot more interesting”.  But this version shows that it’s possible for the writers to use Willow to cause Jerome to break up with Mara and end up with Joy in the end, but without compromising Jerome’s character development from seasons 1 and 2.

Jerome may be a complex character, but one thing he is not is a cheater.  Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

Hopper & Harrington Teamup AU → based on this interview (and based loosely on “the nice guys”) Excited to finally find a proper job away from his dad, Steve is starting his job at the Hawkins police department, only to find himself working once again with Jim Hopper, who is not very thrilled about the arrangment. They have to overcome their [many] differences, including Steve’s lack of professionalism, Hopper’s anger managment issues and their different work tactics, while also taking care of El who keeps putting herself in the front line with them. Will they make it out of this partnership alive? Who knows. I don’t. I don’t know.

can we talk about how angry schneider got by what this man said in s2 of odaat?

i mean he knows he doesn’t deal with this because he is a white privileged male, but he heard that the man said ‘fiesta’ in that tone to his family. and he hated it.

shcneider really loves the alvarez family and i love that

watch odaat on netflix

this is my third or fourth time rewatching odaat and i cry every single time. i cried in season one when elena came out to her dad and when he rejected her saying she was going through a phase and she apologized thinking she did something wrong. i cried when penelope was having second thoughts about her divorce with victor and found out he wasn’t actually getting help, i cried when lydia told victor to get out cause she saw what he did to her daughter. i cried when alex let his mom sleep cause she hadn’t slept in 2 days due to elena’s quinces and he took charge, i cried when i realized schneider went looking for victor long before elena and the others even realized he was gone. i cried when penelope filled in the spot of the father for the father daughter dance because she loved her daughter for who she was and didn’t care that she was gay. in season two i cried when alex revealed he had encountered a lot of racial slurs all because he speaks spanish and the color of his skin. i cried because alex is a young teenage cuban who gets told that the wall should be built just because his family is loud, and because they speak spanish. i cried because it was these words that caused alex to lash out and punch some random white kid, because it caused him to feel ashamed of his cuban family because of the racial slurs said to him. i cried cause at some point throughout this show , i realized i can easily relate to the pain or shitty things the alvarez family goes through. i cry a lot throughout this show because it’s just so real. with the love may come some hate , with the good can come some bad and this show , shows that. i’m so glad we got a season 3 because this show deserves it.

and can i just say i kinda relate to elena , because in season 1 she doesn’t speak much spanish or understand it either. or how she had trouble figuring out she was gay, and felt pressure when it came to coming out but was relieved when she did.

i think many people can relate to the characters in this show whether it be elena or penelope or even schneider , a white male who went through years of rehab for drug and alcohol abuse, this show can relate to many people in one way or the other.

this show deserves a lot of recognition , and one of the shows i will never grow tired of watching. because i relate to the characters a lot. and sometimes it makes me feel a tiny bit better about myself.
