From Terrance McMillan: If you are an EWU student, student parent, staff, faculty or alumnus, this is a crucial time to speak up. I believe the proposed budget (which would, among other things, cut academics by 19m and athletics 500k) would be like a doctor killing the patient to save them. If you think EWU should just exist for workforce training and that 8 people should get to decided for every future generation what sorts of jobs working class people are "meant" to have, then tell the board to stay on the current flight path. If you think universities are meant for more than just job training. If you think 18yo people should not have to decide how they will spend the rest of their lives. If you think nurses should be allowed to study ethics, that music helps us be better healers and that literature and art have value even if the artist doesn't live off their art, then please tell the EWU administration to reconsider their current plan. Above all, help them remember that staff and faculty aren't numbers: they are people. The reserve fund, on the other hand, is pretty much just numbers! If this isn't the time to use rainy day funds, then there never will be one.
