the millennium items being made specifically as weapons of war and conquest and then atem’s family/the priests just casually use them against their own people afterwards for like, trespassing. once again i think thief king was right.

found out an interesting and amusing tidbit about yami marik: apparently he has a 'lisp' of sorts when it comes to the japanese 'sa' line (さしすせそ). think of it as the vowels aeiou but with an 's' in front. it even has a pixiv tag, サ行の呪い (the curse of the 'sa' line), just for him 🤭
basically, it's yami marik slurring his words. 'sa' becomes 'sha', 'so' becomes 'sho', etc. (ぜ 'ze' can become じぇぇ 'je' as well lmao)
iwanaga tetsuya, his jp va, talks about it here. he references his live 'duel' performance with takahashi hiroki (jounouchi) during duel opera 2020.
he caught wind of people mishearing his 'sa' pronunciation but didnt believe it until he watched an episode. then he was like 'oh yeah, it does sound like that huh'.
he explains that this is because 'the character has a lot of hate for the main character to the point that his voice trembles and his accent shakes', so he decided to purposely alter the reading of the script to include the mispronunciations during duel opera.
the word he keeps using as an example is 貴様 (kisama), a very rude way of saying 'you'. iwanaga-san altered the pronunciation to 'kishama' instead.
he then goes on to say that he didnt think itd be a nationwide meme and ends with another one of yami marik's iconic lines from ep 128 (after jounouchi survives ra's attack): ありえない (impossible!).
anyway, Ive always wondered why yami marik sounded more garbled when saying monster reborn (死者蘇生, shisha sosei) compared to the other characters. take a listen!

it is a bit of a tongue twister for an egyptian...? normal marik says it fine tho. but I guess yami marik is allowed to get away with it. technically hes only six years old. pronunciation isnt advanced yet 🤭

needless to say, this only 'exists' in the anime due to people mishearing it. yami marik has normal speech in the manga.
