since pride month’s over now i just want to say. arthur morgan would 100% be supportive of gay people if he wasn’t already gay. i hate those chronically online mfs that are like “arthur would never say that!!!” when it comes to gay people. besides the fact that arthur is literally a wanted outlaw who does NOT like the federal government or what it has to say about society therefore two men kissing would not be his top priority (unless it was him and charles kissing but that’s just a by-the-by), i want to talk about his final interaction with charles châtenay. if u don’t know, charles dresses up as a woman to escape saint denis because a lot of people are mad at him for his art, which arthur obviously comments on, but THEN charles sees people he thinks he knows so he kisses arthur so the men wouldn’t see him, and all arthur has to say is “please don’t do that”. now a lot of people use that as a gotcha moment but of course a man from 1899 is going to comment on a man dressing up as a woman and kissing him because, as much as arthur dislikes society, that was just the norm of the time!!! it’s the same as when arthur said “i didn’t know you was a lady” to the prostitute in valentine, no matter how much arthur supports women he’s obviously going to make jokes because he’s a man of his time!!! but anyway charthur on top debate with my fucking ass

He also doesn't make any truly disparaging comments (maybe a little snark) about Mr. Black and Mr. White, and in fact advises them to BE CAREFUL. Not just in the outlaw sense, but "They don't like groups of men together like this, trust me, I know."

Why on EARTH would he say that? Sure, he could just be referring to a gang sense, but two men is not a gang, and he never gives anyone else that warning. He's not talking about them being outlaws. It wouldn't make sense for him to phrase it like that if he was. He's talking about them being INTO each other, and spending a lot of in each other's presence. A lot of people maybe miss that phrase (and I might not have gotten it 100% accurate but still).

AND HE KNOWS that society doesn't like it when men are seen together in that way. Even if he's not referring to his own personal experience, he could be referring to Dutch and Hosea, or something else. But the fact stands that he is trying to warn two OBVIOUSLY gay men not to get caught BEING GAY.

not to mention the stranger mission "he's british, of course" with mr. maragret, the crossdresser circus owner. arthur makes the occasional snarky/angry comment to maragret but it's more because of how ludicrously incompetent mr. maragret is concerning the animals, how he lies to customers, and the reason for most of his frustration with mr. maragret, that he had to fight a lion he wasn't warned of.

arthur makes very few comments on his crossdressing and what he does say is very tame and honestly seems like genuine confusion at times 😭 arthur even addresses maragret as "madam" (probably in a jokey manner but it wasn't overly sarcastic, imo) before maragret corrects him by saying "it's bloody maragret, not madam." many people would have treated maragret so so much worse. this was literally a time when crossdressing was illegal in most places in america. instead arthur helps maragret (because of money, ofc but he could have ignored him entirely).

arthur is for the girls and the gays and probably is a gay himself which would be more historically accurate than him being straight if we REALLY wanna get into it. but 14 year old edge lords aren't ready for the convo about the large amount of homosexuality and transgenderism that was present in cowboys.
