they spared us from the video too except for i put the link into the wayback machine and then released it onto tumblr

car seat headrest fans will be like have you listened to "god is bleeding out and we all deserved it/turtles are choking in the ocean" and its the most calm normal 3-5 minute song youve ever heard and then right next to it theres a song thats like "famine (sad)" and its 13 minutes long with 4 acts

benefits of using tumblr mobile almost exclusively at this point: don't have to deal with whatever UI fuckery staff is up to now

yippee ! i will definitely check the barry playlist i loveee seeing what other people do for him. we all have fragments by an unkindness on there too its so funny LOL peer reviewed song. and yea that makes sense for the "lighter music" thing .! generally i listen to lighter songs when im overwhelmed and need something to ground me so i like folk and blues music a lot but most of what i listen to is punk or rock definitely . there is so much music in the world ive had to make so many separate playlists

very true so much music.

i really like shoegaze, it's a malleable genre so there's lighter, more poppy sounding stuff and also stuff that veers into metal territory. it's such an awesome genre but i know literally 1 person irl who even knows what it is. my ass is like "do you know what shoegaze is" and 9/10 people say no what is that. and then i get to explain to them why it's called shoegaze (heavy use of effects pedals meant performers were often occupied looking at their feet while playing instead of engaging with the audience, so press came up with the term to mock them "gazing at their shoes")

its a really good genre ! a lot of people dont like it (they dont like 2 tone and 3rd wave ska, which was when the jamaicans traveled to england and met with the working class there , which caused a blend of first wave jaimacan ska [similar to reggae, jazz, and the blues] with the punk rock of the british working class) because it does sound very goofy and silly . 2 tone and 3rd wave popularized the punk sound for it, but i also love the original jamaican ska sound its very beautiful to me. as it was formed in england, it was about the relations and social issues that the jamaican immigrants and the working class both dealt with, and it was a call to action really. they were teaming up, standing up together, fighting together, addressing racism and inequality and the upper class and poor working conditions . it was made up of people from many different backgrounds and places and positions in life, but it was rooted against inequality and you can never ever separate the politicism from ska which just makes it such a shame to me how it gets called dumb because thats just glossing over such a rich important history for it . 3rd wave was when it spread to more parts of the world, past just england, and most of the well-known ska-punk bands (streetlight manifesto, the toasters, mighty mighty bosstones, reel big fish, etc) started up around this time and became less political and started being more comedic , which made lots of people think it was stupid and dumb . sad.... im still a fan though . i <3 streetlight manifesto the most its much heavier and more punk than the others but i love rock music also so its good .

this is all super cool!

i saw someone mention a reel big fish song on twitter & listened to it & i liked it (drunk again) but that is pretty much the extent of my current ska listening. i sometimes get overwhelmed by how much music there is out there so i can't guarantee i'll get into ska but i appreciate you telling me about it

i like punk + heavy music a lot but i'm not always in the Mood to listen to it so i find myself listening to a lot of lighter/chiller music even though i generally like it less? if that makes sense? it's like comfort music i guess.

my spotify is roadkillrabies with an s if you want to get a feel for my music taste but be warned i have an abundance of character playlists, some ocs and some from embarrassing media. lol

my barry playlist is on there it's nearly six hours long and i put painstaking effort into the custom order making the songs flow together. not All of it is music i think he'd actually listen to, some of it just fits the energy of the rest of the playlist, some of it is more about the lyrics. also there are 15 radiohead songs

this is true he probably likes it until someone tells him about the lyrics/he suddenly pays enough attention and then it ruins the song for him . and oh yea of course just a silly post :-) i just really love ska and getting to talk about it sorry if i seemed aggressive im just excited..

Avatar

you didn't seem aggressive at all dw. i barely listen to ska but feel free to talk about it more if you want

barry also is not a very anti-authority character and ska is and has always been heavily rooted in leftism and being anti-authority . 3rd wave ska is most aggressive with this with its heavy punk undertones as well too. so i dont think he would like it much either because as a former soldier i dont imagine him being a huge fan of things anti-authority and anti-government because i dont think hes self aware enough to REALIZE that the government or the military are actually BAD it probably feels offensive to him

Avatar

yeah that's a fair point. you could argue he doesn't really pay attention to the meanings of song lyrics and that wouldn't seem too far fetched to me but either way i wasn't super serious about the suggestion in the first place

barry and fuches will always hit a little harder than, for example kendall and logan roy for me because there was a child in barry who saw fuches as a father. there was a kid who was never directly related to fuches but barry still chose to look up to him and work for him. fuches planted a disease in barry’s brain which he spread to everyone surrounding him, a lack of love, a deep hurt, a deep rooted violence. barry has never had a stable relationship in his entire life thanks to fuches but they will always miss eachother. barry will always get back into the car with him, and they will always drive away from the crime scene into the sunset, even when there’s such a dark presence of eachothers anger and resentment in the backseat. they chose this life

[video description: Bill Hader talking about filming a scene from Barry season 3. The video cuts between him talking and footage of them filming. He says "Okay, I know you can do cool things but I want this to be kinda like, "what?" (laughs) Like less like "Whoaaa!" and more like "huh? uhhh." /end description]
