I don't even know where to start nony. Sweet mother of fuck I'm still processing. I don't want to post spoilers but SWEET OZ THEY PUSHED KATE TO THE FUCKING LIMIT! It was actually SO WELL WRITTEN! I took a large amount of emotional damage but nony... Let me tell you... That did not stop me from going back to relisten to it!
They put Kate through ALOT in the audios. I mean... Yes she got sucked out of a plane and captured by Zygons in the show but in the audios Kate nearly dies so many times (actually technically does in one) and gets put through impossibly dangerous situations but jesus christ NONE OF THAT COMPARES TO THIS AUDIO! SWEET MOTHER OF OZ THEY PULLED OUT ALL THE STOPS FOR THIS ONE! AND JEMMA WAS FUCKING AMAZING AT IT!
THESE CHARACTERS. THESE CHARACTERS COME FROM A FAMILY SHOW! I genuinely never thought I'd see the day where cannon would put my favs through more than I would put them through in fanfiction. I had a gun held to a characters head at one point as she tried to perform surgery on a dead man and Big finish just strode in and was like... Hold my beer.
Shit they all did an amazing job on this one. Wow.
I had a whole write up about how her characters are so often dragged within an inch of their life, but ... seriously. I was thinking just today about how the audios could lead into a spin off show - thinking, “well maybe they’re too ‘safe’ or ‘bordering on camp’ to really translate into something like Torchwood. This tells me they’re going a different direction these days? Maybe they could be leading into something more grown up or serious or drama based .. to lean in to a show of it’s own? IDK just rambling.
