At the age of twelve young beauty,found herself in slave markets in Istanbul,where Nurbanu Sultan bought her for her son, Murad. Nurbanu Sultan, as soon as I saw Sofia,decided that this girl what she was looking for her son.

Sofia’s name for a period of two years studying in the harem was changed on Safiye,what means:clear,pure beauty. Beauty and wit helped her has attracted the attention of Sultan Murad III,who immediately fell in love with her and the wisdom and prudence helped her to become Valide Safiye Sultan and to take an active part in the Affairs of the state.
