25. What queer discourse frustrates you the most??

“saying queer is a slur is a terf dog whistle” no it literally is not, queer is a slur, it has been reclaimed by a lot of people and a lot of people do find comfort and power in it but it is still a slur and you cant force a word onto people who aren’t comfortable with it. a word that ALSO holds a lot of significance in our community! NONE of these ideas are MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE!!!!!! if someone tells you not to call them queer, literally just DONT!!!! i personally have never identified with the queer label, im uncomfortable with being called queer, and that’s a personal choice but not wanting to be called a word that i personally dont feel comfortable with reclaiming for myself because of its history and use as a slur does not make me a fucking TERF, my GOD.

but also most flag discourse <3 like i have my own opinions on different flags and versions of flags and stuff but like. most of it just does not matter and we’re fighting over stuff for LITERALLY NO REASON!!!!!

Pride asks for fun:

  1. Which labels do you use?
  2. Do you like to use the term queer for yourself? Or just LGBT, etc?
  3. Which pronouns do you use?

  6. (If you're out) do you wish you came out sooner? Later? Or was it the right time?
  7. Are you the "token" queer person in your family?
  8. Describe your gender without using any words traditionally related to gender:
  9. When did you realize you weren't cishet?
  10. Something that gives you gender euphoria (whether you're cis or trans):
  11. Favorite (or just one you love) piece of LGBT media?
  12. Name some queer artists/bands or songs you like most:
  13. Do you choose to reclaim slurs, why or why not?

  23. Do you prefer loud parties or quiet?
  24. Do you practice any religion, if so how does it play into your LGBT identity? Do you feel welcomed by your spiritual community?
  25. What queer discourse frustrates you the most?
  26. How do you feel about the term partner rather than husband/girlfriend/etc?
  27. What gender-neutral terms for yourself or others do you use (i.e. joyfriend)?

  30. Are you monogamous or polyamorous?
  31. Post a pic in your pride gear (or it can just be a selfie or anything else lgbt):
  32. Do you do arts and crafts? Post a pic of a project you've done:

someone put this screenshot in my notes and i wasn't gonna put the op on blast but i cannot stop thinking about it. this is up there as one of the funniest doubling downs i've ever seen. "it's called craft. it's called storytelling." is going to enter my meme vernacular and no one is going to have any idea what i'm talking about. the count of monte cristo shows a clear lack of craft in its wordcount. if only ernest hemingway's editor had killed more of his darlings while he wrote for whom the bell tolls. readers and editors alike are always complaining about how fucking long to kill a mockingbird is.

Valid Jane Austen Novels:

  • Northanger Abbey
  • Persuasion

Kindling:

  • Sense & Sensibility
  • Pride & Prejudice
  • Mansfield Park
  • Emma

I sometimes think that people who have never had to do this for a living think of 100,000 words the way I thought of $20 when I was twelve (and sometimes do, when I'm broke and hungry). That is So Many Words! Sooooo many words!

It is not that many words.

A short urban fantasy is going to be somewhere between 100,000 and 110,000 words--and that's about the minimum. Any shorter and people start getting mad at the cover price. A meaty thriller or modern fantasy will be closer to 150,000-175,000.

You want books under 100k? Young adult tends to run around 80,000, and there are always novellas.

"it's called having a brutal editor and kissing their feet for the vital work that they do"

Look bud your kink is emphatically not my kink, and you need to respect that.
