For Cosplayers

So what's up with cosplayers expecting every other cosplayer to act in character? It seems rather elitist, like they're gonna oust the people who don't like to role-play who they dress as. I understand that it's a normally a stigma to act like a character and have fun with this type of thing in day-to-day life, and I straight up admire people who do roleplay costume at conventions, but do NOT turn that around once you're in the power seat. You can still ask people to act in character and maybe it'd be fun to watch them come out of their shell, but don't be unwelcoming or make them feel bad about their choice of character if they decline. You shouldn't have to be held to other people’s standards in choosing a cosplay that you think represents you or simply want to do.
