Gwen is trans the same way that Peter B Parker is Jewish in that it's 100% entirely canon but if your ability to interpret visual media begins and ends with character dialogue you're going to miss 100% of the demographic information of any character because there's basically no situation where it would make thematic sense for Spider-Man to say "oh and by the way, I'm trans and Jewish"

I think what fucks me up the most is that each passenger paid at least $250,000 to be in that submersible. And ultimately, as billionaires, thatโ€™s like. A percentage of a percent of a percentage of their wealth. Itโ€™s like a trip to Starbucks for people like me. There is not a single person in my life whose existence would not be monumentally changed for the better in ways they probably canโ€™t even imagine by having $250,000 accessible to them. And these dudes handed it over to go die in the ocean in a tin can piloted by a video game controller in some kind of fucked up deep sea Major Tom situation

I mean, those 250.000$ did change their lives. I get what you mean, but their lives did change a lot since they took that trip.

You know what? Fair enough. I cannot argue with that.

i was with my motherโ€™s family and they were talking to me about my religious studies major. my great aunt asked me what the definition of hell was, and i respondedย โ€œwell i suppose it depends on who you ask.โ€ and nearly all the protestants in the group decided that hell wasย โ€œthe absence of godโ€ which i suppose is a fair answer, albeit not a universal one. my cousinโ€™s wife was playing with her 3-year-old daughter and she saysย โ€œwell mommy says that hell is a mcdonaldโ€™s playplaceโ€ asdfghjhgfd

this 3-year-old girl is so fucking hilarious. her mothers have signed her up for a toddler yoga class, and so she has adopted a very unique language. this child also has an imaginary friend named โ€œmomโ€ which is, in her mind, the boss of her two mothers. for example, my cousinโ€™s wife explained to me how her daughter got mad at them one time. the little girl situated herself in the corner of her crib, pretended to type on a cell phone and saidย  โ€œim writing an email to mom right now and telling her how bad you two are. namaste.โ€

the familyโ€™s Big Theory aboutย โ€œMomโ€ is that both my cousin and her wife are referred to asย โ€œMommyโ€ andย โ€œMama.โ€ The nicknameย โ€œMomโ€ is not used in the house because it would just be confusing. However, when interacting with the world, people tell their daughter that they willย โ€œtell her momโ€ if she is doing something wrong. so this child automatically assumes there is this greaterย โ€œMomโ€ figure that is responsible for distributing universal justice.ย

To be fair to the toddler, thatโ€™s pretty much how religions get started.

Our Mom, who art gonna hear about this,

not to be pedantic but it annoys me so much when people talk abt how chatgpt is "lying" or "making things up". or esp when people say it "refuses to admit" to lying. like girl that is a toaster oven

"it REFUSED TO ADMIT that it LIED to me" it is a line of code generating letters in the most algorithmically probable order

The pursuit for photorealism in games is a fruitless endeavor that only results in bloated file sizes that take too much space

I was in my late teens during that short-lived period where everybody and their dog was trying to launch their own graphical MMO, most of which were so short-lived that it was honestly a toss-up whether they'd run out of money and close down before I lost interest. I think my shortest run was some weird all-RP-all-the-time server where I registered, logged in, greeted another player, got chewed out by a nearby moderator for speaking modern English, tried to correct myself, and immediately got banned for calling the moderator "thou".

To fully contextualise this anecdote I feel it's important to understand that this was before MMOs went 3D, so you need to picture me getting yelled at for employing OOC vernacular in a game that looks like this:

oh i HATE this solution to the squares/isometric debate

'twas the fashion at the time. This isn't even a screenshot of the right game โ€“ it's just the first example I could come up with that has the correct goofy pseudo-isometric perspective.

My printer decided to perfect its postmodernist cut-up technique instead of actually printing my notes
