I didn't realize this until recently but Tapas shadow banned my comic. I knew it wasn't included on the app due to mature content (which is a pile of shit) but it doesn't show up in any of the site's search results. You can't even search my username. It sucks. I had a feeling something was up since my last few chapters barely get any views and the only subscribers I've been getting are friends or people I know from social media.

I just don't get it. They have a mature section on their website. There are other comics with sexually explicit content. And if they had an issue with my comic, why not just contact me? I would've gladly provided a censored version. Am I supposed to be grateful they didn't delete it but rather just made it impossible to find??

I'm especially frustrated because making adult gay comics is a fucking headache. Nearly every self-publishing service I've looked into doesn't allow NSFW content. Or they have issues with gay content and won't out right say it. Most web hosts also don't allow NSFW content. I can't win.

Sorry for the random post, I'm just frustrated about all of this. I needed to vent. Or maybe this will be a better way for me to promote my comic that's nearly invisible on Tapas.

UPDATE:

No More Mermaids has been removed from Tapas pending further edits.

I’ve been in contact with Moderator Team, who have been very nice, but holy shit, the edits they’re asking for are a little ridiculous. Like, I get it. My comic has racy content. I knew I was pushing my luck when I drew blowjobs and erections. But they’ve also asked me to obscure any traces of pubic hair, bulges in underwear, and any nudity “involving a sexual act.” Isn’t that kind of excessive? I mean, pubic hair is a no-go? C’mon! Curiously, they have no issue with me throwing the slur “faggot” around or drawing semen. But pubes are taboo. Makes perfect sense. I wish I knew why they have a mature section if they’re gonna force artists to censor their work down to a “PG-13″ level. My comic has been on that site, uncensored, since 2017 and nobody has ever complained about it. Also, I had to contact them to discuss edits! How insane is that?

Part of me feels like I don’t have a right to complain, since Tapas is a free-to-use-site, but there are basically no other alternatives. It’s damn near impossible to host a NSFW comic online.

Anyway, I’ve gone and censored the existing 15 chapters to the point where some chapters are downright nonsensical. I’ll try to improve it in the future, I’m just really trying to get my series back up on the website.

The cat’s out of the bag! Re: Cutie Honey has been licensed by Discotek Media! I’ve been keeping this a secret for what felt like an eternity. I’m super excited for these guys, since they’ve been trying to license Re: for a while now. I don’t know the exact details but it was in licensing limbo up until recently.

I was lucky enough to work on this upcoming release. I gave some input on the English script, terminology for the subtitles, I wrote up the packaging summary as well as a ton of liner notes!

The English dub is fantastic. They really did a phenomenal job here. It’s wonderful hearing Jessica again and a lot of other returning voice talents. Brady and the team did a great job of hunting down actors for cameo parts too.

Please pick it up when it comes out!

Re: Cutie Honey is up for pre-order!

I found out someone finally translated Shouwa Ahozoushi Akanuke Ichiban so I started binging it. For those of you who don’t know, it’s from the same creator as Igano Kabamaru, one of my favorite series.

I’m enjoying it. It’s not as funny as Kabamaru but I still get a good laugh from each episode. The production quality is way better than Kabamaru, despite the fact it only came out a year after. Tatsunoko Pro. really blows Group TAC out of the water. It’s a shame they didn’t produce Kabamaru.

I like Yu Azuki a lot because she draws these really beautiful, flowery comics with extremely lowbrow humor. She’s always making jokes about testicles or poop. Usually not my thing but I can’t help but laugh at how juvenile the humor can be.

Akanuke Ichiban is only 22 episodes so I’ll probably finish it by next week.

Recently snatched up the 1997 Summer Toei Anime Fair coloring book. I’ve been waiting this for awhile, since the coloring books for the Manga Matsuri/Anime Fairs are pretty rare. It was in great condition too! Eight pages are dedicated to the Cutey Honey F movie, which kinda-sorta summarize the plot. Strangely enough neither Seiji or Robert are featured, despite being main characters.

I also finally got my acrylic Honey stands in. These were sold at the recent Kazuhiro Ochi exhibition. They were fairly pricey, so I opted on not getting all of her seven forms. Now I kinda of regret it. They’re so beautiful! And surprisingly big!

I wish Crystal would stop botching all of my favorite moments from the manga.

Can I ask how it’s botched? It looks fine to me.

in my personal opinion the change is in the expressions

in the manga she’s smiling and possibly her voice is soft while saying the most bizarre thing of all, and Usagi’s expression is relaxed but vigilant, she listens to what Galaxia has to say, before she makes her choice to yeet her ass

in the cosmos panel Galaxia is joker,  and usagi is terrified.

making Galaxia a generic simplistic evil and not morally grey, and usagi a weakling

Pretty much.

Galaxia is one of my favorite villains in the manga. She is a incredibly unhinged character though she almost never appears like it. She always have a very calm or determined demeanor. This panel perfectly captures that. The intensity in her expression gives me chill. The anime on the other hand, is way too exaggerated.

Hey NYC friends! I’ll be tabling at the upcoming NYC Queer Comic Fair!

From the Doable Guys website:

We are BACK for our 5th year!  June 3-4, come join us at the Bureau inside the LGBT Center in NYC, where we will be celebrating the wonderful work of local queer comic creators!  This year, we have over 30 vendors spanning the entire second floor of the LGBT Center!
Free Admission! 1-7 both days

I’ll be selling copies of No More Mermaids, some zines, stickers, and buttons! Please come through!

I finally got the March 1974 issue of TV Land! This issue includes the last chapter of Masatoshi Nakajima’s Cutie Honey manga.

Honey heads off to Switzerland to deliver her father’s studies for an academic conference. Sister Jill and her troops attack the plane in the middle of the flight, which prompts Honey to jump out with a parachute. Using her strongest attack, “Honey Flash: Red Zone Power” she obliterates Jill and her minions. Honey declares she’s finally avenged her father and assures the reader she’ll catch another flight to Switzerland.

So cool! This is the first Honey adaptation that has a definitive conclusion. Sister Jill is the true leader of Panther Claw in this version, not Panther Zora, so there are no loose ends left over. This chapter also features cameos from Seiji, Junpei, and Ms. Alphonne. I’m so happy I finally own this, I only need the January 1974 issue and I’ll have a complete set.

My boyfriend wanted to go to Chinatown for stationary but instead spent 40+ dollars on random Hello Kitty trinkets.

I have 10 episodes left of Aishite Knight and... it seems like they’re really rushing through the romantic subplots? Yakko realizes she loves Go, Satomi and Mieko finally get together, and Isuzu is getting married to the one member of Bee Hive (I can’t remember his name LOL). I feel like it could end now but... we have 10 episodes left. I wonder what’s gonna happen? Bee Hive won the Battle of the Bands, all the romantic subplots have been tied, what else is left?

We got introduced to a rival band “Kiss Relish” (LOL) a few episodes back and the lead singer is a bi? pan? sexual androgynous guy named Shira. He uh, sexually harasses Go most of the time but then they randomly reveal he’s in a relationship with his manager, Marino, who’s also pregnant with their child. Didn’t see that coming. They actually never hinted any sort of romantic chemistry between the two?? It’s mostly funny because they definitely give off that couple across the bar that’s digging your vibes:

Isn’t it wild how much money has been wasted trying to make Saint Seiya big in the US? They’ve tried to make it work how many times? I’m really curious to see how this live action film does because aside from the Netflix series (which I doubt is even bringing in that many viewers) all of the previous entries have done horribly in the US.

I never got why Saint Seiya never found an audience here while it became huge in Latin America. Did it just arrive too late? Was it not considered as hardcore as DBZ (also popular in Latin America)?

Avatar

It’s probably a number of factors but it arriving too late is probably the biggest.

I think it came out to the US in like… 2003? And older anime/series with older styles just didn’t sit right with American audiences. I believe that was the time the newer Cyborg 009 series came out, which Sony really tried to push, and it totally flopped. Even now older series are kind of a hit or miss. I’m guessing it’s because anime didn’t really take off here until the 90′s – while other counties, like Italy and France, had been actively importing series since the 70′s.

I seriously laughed out loud when I heard pre-sale tickets for the new film was so bad Sony was canceling showings.

And to think just a few weeks ago every Saint Seiya fan on Twitter ripped me apart for saying there’s no American audience. LOL
