There.
A boy. Black hair floating wildly, obscuring his face. White hands straining upwards, reaching and grasping at nothing. Air bubbles leaving his mouth, heading for a surface he’ll never reach on his own.
And it hits James like the worst kind of deja vu. Suddenly he’s right back where he was in his dream, looking down in horror at a boy who’s screaming, fighting, grappling for life while scaly, gray fingers drag him down to the depths. Except this time, it’s not a dream.
This time it's fucking real. He knows it in his bones.
The boy’s eyes snap open.
His hair has drifted away from his face, revealing his familiar features, and James feels his heart stop. Because he knows those green-gray eyes that once drove him to distraction. He knows those pale cheeks so rarely flushed with color, except for when James would say something flirty enough to make them burn. He knows the gentle slope of his nose, surprisingly small and delicate for such a typically severe face.
He’d know Regulus Black anywhere.
And now he’s about to watch him drown.
