An Ongoing Daily List of Good Shit Because I'm Tired of All The Corona Talk:

  • Australia is no longer on fire
  • U-Haul is offering free 30 day storage for displaced college students and discounted rates on moving services
  • The second person in the world was just cured of HIV!
  • There's going to be a new Dr. Seuss book this fall, published from a manuscript he wrote that was discovered 21 years after his death
  • Student loan payments are being halted with no interest until the pandemic clears
  • A zoo in Indiana recently announced the birth of two Chacoan Peccaries, an animal that is currently endangered (and also adorable)
  • On that train, two cheetah cubs were recently born in an Ohio zoo via vitro fertilization, which could seriously boost efforts to help endangered species survive
  • One more about animals - a komodo dragon in a Tennessee zoo just gave birth without male involvement! Which isn't something new, but it is rare and cool.
  • The state of Virginia has banned conversion therapy for minors recently, and is the first Southern state to do so
  • Scotland has created the worlds first Carbon Positive Gin made from peas instead of wheat, which reduces the carbon footprint created by normal gin making. Without wheat....it might also be a gluten free alternative (not certain on that one, you'd have to reach out to the creators). You can buy it here
  • The worlds first 3D printed houses were just created in Mexico, with the hopes to combat homelessness. They are designed to withstand seismic activity and come with two bedrooms, a living room, kitchen, and bathroom.
  • Disneyland is donating all acceptable food to food banks in Orange County during their closure
  • The Olympic Games are hoping to become "climate positive" by the year 2030, and by next year they plan to start planting an "Olympic Forest" in Africa in an effort to combat desertification

Hopefully I can add more day to day, but even the small stuff makes you smile sometimes. Yesterday at my coffee shop, a woman tipped me five dollars because, and I quote, "Just because there's a virus doesn't mean I can't tip you for my coffee."

The small shit matters as much as the big shit. Good luck, try to look at the good and also try and DO some good, and wash your hands.

So there’s this huge dudebro in my class, who, yesterday, sat next to me. And I’m sitting there sweating because like… I’m wearing my shirt with the lesbian flag on it, and he’s the most popular jock in school, and always has this look on his face that say ‘I can and will kill you’. He looks me up and down, stares at me for a minute and then goes, “So. Girls in skirts and long socks, am I right?”

To which I nodded solemnly, both out of agreement, surprise and also a healthy amount of awkward fear. He nodded and went, “You get it.”

I said, “Yep.” He fistbumped me, and on went our lives.

Oh! I forgot to mention! I saw him at lunch the same day, and he ran up to me, tapped me on the shoulder, pointed at this super sweet girl who comes to GSA and asked if she’s gay. I told him he should ask her because that’s not my place and he said he would.

I thought that would be the end of it.

Except ten minutes later he came back and told me he found out (she’s bi) and that both of us have a shot. I said “You more than me.” because he’s attractive and popular.

But this wholesome dumbass looked really confused and asked, “Because I’m tall?’

So this isn’t lesbian/jock solidarity but I thought you guys would want to know-

My math teacher was trying to fix the rolling whiteboard and he just offhand said “This would be easier with a wrench”

And deadass, dudebro said “Hang on” and then proceeded to pull a fucking wrench out of his backpack

Update- after school today he saw me in the library and he didn’t say anything? He just pointed at the book he was holding and I gave him a thumbs up because it’s a pretty good book, and he went “Yes!” Really quiet and pumped his fist and then left

Okay so today he asked me if I know how to help people having a panic attack and I was like yeah? And he smiled at me and then went “cool I think I’m having one”

And I was like what the fuck Colin we’re in the middle of Tech class sit down and we went out in the hall and sat there for a while and he told me about the test he’s stressed about so we kind of went over his study guide and when he was feeling better he kind of like… smacked his head against mine gently? And I helped him up even though he’s almost a foot taller than me and yeah

Dr. Willie Parker, who is trained as a gynecologist and OBGYN, is a hero for the pro-choice movement because he’s honest about the undiscussed aspects of getting (or not getting) an abortion. Watch how he gives a consultation.

That last statement about regret is so important, because so many people don’t understand what it is or what causes it. Anti-choicers exploit this by manipulating pregnant people and creating doubt, which only increases the likelihood of regret, no matter what decision the pregnant person makes. You know what is best for you, even if it takes some time to figure it out.

Willie Parker is a HERO among common people!

Dr. Parker is one of the few things I like about Alabama and we are so fortunate to have him here.

Ok cause apparently people for some reason think this is real

Actually this is a widely-spread hoax. Here’s the real tweet

You were saying…

Those are fake. The real tweet is below:

My letterboxd review for birds of prey

The little, kindly 70-year-old man who shops at my grocery store came in and he said, while smiling and nodding, that it was “A lot.” and “Very colorful” and something along the lines of “Those young women sure are something.” and recommended it 10/10. His feedback was good.

Ok ONE (1) male opinion on birds of prey is allowed at its this one

GAY KNIGHTS

Mr. The Frog we all agreed that a celebrity is not a people

The Muppets have one (1) collective brain cell between them and 90% of the time, Kermit has it.

Kermit has 100% control of the brain cell and 0% control over the other muppets.

Here is your regularly scheduled reminder:

  • Queer is a whole and complete identity in itself.
  • Queer is an identity with a rich and complex history.
  • Queer people do not have to further clarify or explain their identities unless they choose to.
  • You are not owed the specific details of a queer persons identity if the person doesn't want to share those details with you.
  • Literally, demanding that a person share details about their gender and/or sexuality that they aren't ready to share (or may not have even figured out yet) because not knowing makes you "uncomfy" is invasive, creepy, and entitled as fuck.
  • Coming out as queer is perfectly valid--and no less significant or important than coming out as lesbian or gay is.
  • People who identity only as queer are every bit as much a part of our communities as lesbian and gay people are.
  • Discourse about a queer person's identity and whether or not a queer person is "reALly LgBT" or not is queerphobia. Full stop.
