Remus - trans he/him - pure of heart, dumb of ass

I’m losing it over this

“At a certain level of clientele, capitalism isn’t about efficiency” ya don’t say…

You bitches are SO brainwashed it’s unreal

excuse me? china is not perfect but we’re NOT EVEN CLOSE to the RAGING NEOLIBERAL DUMPSTER FIRE that the US is 😂 the two r literally incomparable lmao

anyway this post abt the wood paneling is exactly, literally how the us govt handles e v e r y t h i n g:

by putting forward ‘solutions’ that incur more costs for contractors and creates more problems for the ppl wc require putting forward more solutions that incur more costs for contractors and create more problems for the ppl, and so on, the only guideline is – absolutely never, ever fix the actual problem.

it’s like some weird ponzy scheme of disaster capitalism. as long as the problem exists u can make more money.

like if u prevented the spread of the novel coronavirus how is big pharma gonna make money. u do not fix the pandemic silly, u make it worse and u do so under the banner of ‘freedom’

take cancer for example, how many billions have been sunk into cancer research in the past few decades? do u suppose even if they had the capacity, that they rly wanna find a cure to that? lol

if u didn’t start the wars how is the military industrial complex gonna make money. u do not just start the wars, u make them forever, and u use the previous as an excuse to start another, and another, and another, and u do so under the banner of ‘democracy’

and so on and so forth. basically how can the west maintain hegemony by fixing problems? there’s no way they will win on an equal playing field, against ppl that work harder and faster and better than them. so they have to keep the rest of the country, and the rest of the world at a certain amount of disadvantage, a certain amount of inequality

the simplest method is to do nothing abt existing problems while creating more problems, offering rounds and rounds of ‘solutions’ that exacerbate these problems, and again using media propaganda to defame those who r actually trying to actually fix the problem (and succeeding against all odds btw), basically backing everyone into a corner and bleeding them to the v last penny they have lmao

now that’s world-class supervillainy

To win both of your opponents shoulders need to be on the mat.

SO THAT EXPLAINS IT THANK YOU

here’s an actual link to an article (on a website run by jewish people about jewish people, if you’d like to read up on other articles they have available - there is a link to the new york times piece within this if you were interested in that) so you can read about them! https://www.kveller.com/jewish-couple-naomi-replansky-101-and-eva-kollisch-95-share-their-inspiring-stories-of-resilience/

May i add the piece from artist Verbal Vomit

Glad to see we’re all in agreement that cats talk like disparaged victorian children

I am so incredibly glad we finally moved on from “i can has”. Cats are clearly smart enough for advanced sentence structure and dumb enough to draw entirely incorrect conclusions about what they’re talking about.

In love with the usage of “breeds” here like

Catholicism owners: This is an 85th generation purebred system of antisemitism and homophobia, we feed it only the finest organic grass-fed teleological proofs for the existence of God

Protestantism owners: This is Luther he likes bigotry

this is mean but also very very funny

Press Y to honk is now the new press F to pay respects

Nah its the direct opposite

Press Y to pay disrespects

Y

Okay let me rant about this a bit. Press Y to honk IS, quite literally, exact opposite of press F.

Press F to pay respects appears only once in Call of Duty Advanced Warfare - hell, only once in entire Call of Duty series. It’s a single, context-sensitive action that you can never do before or again. In addition, you are forced to do it to progress - if you won’t, you will sit there at this stupid funeral for hours and days. It’s funny because it’s so horribly ill-fitting and forced. We’re laughing AT writers and designers who thought this was a good idea.

Press Y to honk, on the other hand, is systemic, not contextual. At any point in Untitled Goose Game, you can honk, whenever you like - it’s a dedicated honking button. Not only that, but honking has an actual effect - NPCs will be distracted by hearing it, turning in your direction, and some will run away. The act of honking is not funny - what’s funny is the concept of honking, that in a game about a goose there is a button dedicated solely to honking - but also, what’s funny are the interactions that ARISE from using the honk. Making someone trying to hammer a nail  smash his thumb by honking right as the hammer goes down  - that’s great comedy, and it’s PLAYER CONTROLLED comedy. We’re laughing WITH the designers, because they gave us a gameplay tool, a mechanic that is hilarious because we have the power to make it hilarious.

Press F to pay respects is funny because it’s horrible game design. Press Y to honk is funny because it’s amazingly good game design.

love me some design critique especially when it means an independent shitpost game about being a nuisance bird is fundamentally better designed then a major named game thats dominated the market for years with its disappointing stagnation despite so many millions of dollars

i dont mind giving out b00tleg links but the way literally every time someone asks me all i do is google ‘watch x online free’ and find one. they really are not teaching the kids how to steal these days </3

For real, piracy really isn’t hard. The only thing is that Google has started cracking down on bootleg streaming sites, so try using Bing or DuckDuckGo. Also, torrenting is your friend (just make sure you invest in a VPN).

Also, check out r/piracy for a treasure trove of great resources

The way that we learn about Helen Keller in school is an absolute outrage. We read “The Miracle Worker”- the miracle worker referring to her teacher; she’s not even the title character in her own story. The narrative about disabled people that we are comfortable with follows this format- “overcoming” disability. Disabled people as children. Helen Keller as an adult, though? She was a radical socialist, a fierce disability advocate, and a suffragette. There’s no reason she should not be considered a feminist icon, btw, and the fact that she isn’t is pure ableism- while other white feminists of that time were blatent racists, she was speaking out against Woodrew Wilson because of his vehement racism. She supported woman’s suffrage and birth control. She was an anti-war speaker. She was an initial donor to the NAACP. She spoke out about the causes of blindness- often disease caused by poverty and poor working conditions. She was so brave and outspoken that the FBI had a file on her because of all the trouble she caused.

Yet when we talk about her, it’s either the boring, inspiration porn story of her as a child and her heroic teacher, or as the punchline of ableist, misogynistic jokes. It’s not just offensive, it’s downright disgusting.

the reason the story stops once hellen keller learns to talk is no one wanted to listen to what she had to say

how’s that for a fucking punchline

Another part of the story that is often conveniently omitted is that Anne Sullivan, the “miracle worker” in question, was also a visually impaired woman (and abolitionist) who faced her own struggles finding accessible education. That was why she was able to teach Helen Keller and connect her with resources that would allow her to flourish in academia. When Helen Keller was railing against poverty-induced diseases that caused blindness, she was talking about things like trachoma which was what had caused her friend’s vision loss.

The fact that Sullivan is often portrayed as able-bodied in retellings of their story is indicative of the narrative that is most comfortable for an ableist society: that accessibility and equality are gifts bestowed upon the disabled by able-bodied heroes. Disabled children are never taught that they have the power to lift each other up, and that’s a crying shame.

Like, not to be an anarcho-communist on main

but i’m so tired of hearing liberals talk about how “can’t we just have one day to breathe” literally every single time anyone criticizes B*den or H*rris. Y’all wanted “one day” during the entirety of the election process, then election day, and the days following, and now inauguration, and probably for the next four years

because it’s so much easier for y’all to ask for more time to enjoy yourselves vs actually acknowledging that Tr*mp was a symptom of a system working exactly as it was designed to and that B*den isn’t going to fix everything for you if you ask him to, pretty please with a cherry on top, and then doing shit beyond pushing people to vote as if that’s the be all end all of activism

so, no. you can’t have “one day.” you’ve had too many days. and we’ve lost too many people.

I am begging people to understand what activist burnout is and why shit like this is so harmful. “Can’t we just have one day to breathe” isn’t privileged people flippantly asking for it to be over already so they can just go back to their daily lives, it’s the natural result of people seeing horrible things every hour of the day for years until they physically, mentally, and emotionally can’t stand it any more. “You’ve had too many days” no, we’ve had none, because every time there’s been a win there’s been people clamoring to say “Don’t you dare rest, don’t you dare celebrate, it’s not over”, to make people feel guilty for feeling anything but despair, for taking the smallest bit of time to not hurt, for doing anything but constantly reminding themselves of how awful the world is and how they have to fix it all before they can rest.

Guilt does not motivate. Shame does not motivate. They make the guilter feel better by establishing their moral superiority, but they only wear people down even faster. You have to let people rest. You have to celebrate small victories. You have to tune out and take a break sometimes. Because if you keep pushing everyone to be 100% all the time and treat things like rest and recuperation as something hedonistic and selfish (”enjoying yourselves”) rather than essential to the work of activism, you’re going to burn out. It is not selfish, it is necessary.

I absolutely agree that activist burnout is an important thing and people should take time to rest and recuperate, to take a breath. Absolutely. But if you respond to every. single. criticism. of a politician with “can’t we just have a day” and spend the rest of your time simply talking about how great it is that Tr*mp isn’t in office anymore, then you’re not experiencing burnout. You’re experiencing privilege, and expecting the people around you to respect your need to take a breath over our need to make real change.

We can’t all take a day at once. This is why we need to be taking breaks periodically, and creating a space where others can pick up the slack when you need to set things down, and vice verse.

And frankly? If shame and guilt is how I get abled allocishet white upper class people to actually do something versus just parrot the same “vote blue no matter who” schtick that I had to listen to for the last four years, then I will utilize that tool.

Op is being nice about it by leaving this implied rather than saying it explicitly but; you can’t have activist burnout if you aren’t an activist. voting and staying informed of current events isn’t activism *in-and-of itself*

Our culture has undoubtedly experienced collective trauma from 2020, and political stress in general has been affecting many of us far longer than that. A lot of us *are* activists. Acknowledging one’s limitations and taking a step back to process + heal + celebrate the little wins (no matter who you are) is not only good but vital; no one is disagreeing with that.

But the situation OP is describing has nothing to do with someone (activist or otherwise) privately choosing to disengage for a day or w/e; it’s about liberals silencing other ppl because they feel threatened by those pointing out that 1) there is still serious work that needs to be done and 2) the current power structure must still be opposed, even if it’s helmed by Democrats. And that reactive threat response — the desire to shutdown someone who is not “taking an off day” like they — is often because these liberals aren’t actually “taking a step back” from their routine community activism: they’re trying to check out of the conversation entirely.

Many liberals uncomfortable with the criticisms of the new admin are ppl whose chief issue with Trump was that he wasn’t a classy racist; Biden and Harris, a former segregationist and “top cop,” respectively, represent the kind of suburban bigotry us white ppl cozy up with at our kitchen tables and PTA meetings. It’s a return to the “colorblind” status-quo racism of pretending privilege doesnt exist and/or we have no personal responsibility to address it bc things will just improve on their own; a lukewarm progressivism we feel entitled to and see as a relief from more explicit bigotry (bigotry which may have made us more uncomfortably aware of the inequities within our society and the corresponding power we derive from that)

again, taking a day off is fine. the original post wasn’t disputing that. but if someone’s ability to take a day off is dependent on other ppl censoring themselves to accommodate their feelings, that is textbook privilege (and, if it’s a white person specifically, almost absolutely white fragility). no one is responsible for curating their political struggle around someone else’s self-care days.

lastly, the ability to disengage with political struggle is often something afforded to the most privileged non-activists and least often to the most marginalized activists. I point this out not to shame anyone for taking the time off, but to remind that the least any of us can do on our “off days” is to not make the work harder for ppl who are still fighting the good fight by jumping all over their posts with demands they reschedule their critique for a later date

hi! so i just found out that youtube is adding a new source of revenue to videos, “applause”. on every video there will be an ability to doante money directly to the channel.

major issue! youtube takes 30% of the cut. now they’ve been doing that with superchats for years, no big surprise. however you should know that if you donate through mobile, it takes an additional 30%.

so only 40% of your donation may reach the creator.

just support them on patreon, kofi or streamlabs. youtube is garbage

Youtube also grabs their cut before any taxes

If DC/Marvel really wants new readers to come and read their comics, why don’t they do things like “X character: Boxed Set” where they would have a bunch of comics from different years in one box and in it there will be issues that tells their origins and other important stories related to them and their character?

Like that would be so easy to do, if someone watched a movie/show and got invested in a character then all they have to do is buy this boxed set, read a dozen comics or so about the said character (and if other unrelated stories are mentioned in these comics, then maybe they can have notes in the box that explain the context about those stories) and that’s it, now the readers would know just enough about the character to be able to read new comics about them without feeling lost, plus they can sell old comics that no one is interested in anymore.

fights I would pay to see: sigmund “everyone is attracted to someone” freud vs John “sexual desire is evil and cereal can and will fix it” Kellogg

Asked my mom who both has a MA in psychology and currently works for Kellogg’s to weigh in for the hell of it

Man the democratic party really just did everything in it’s power to co-opt BLM so they could win an election, and then after winning were like “oh we totally care about racism for realsies BUT we will literally never implement any form of police reform or do anything to end police brutality against African-Americans or like, do anything except maybe appoint a few wealthy black people who are also neoliberals to a few leadership positions in our party and that’s it. Don’t even think of talking to us again, your slogans make us lose votes in the white suburbs”. Incredibly fucking vile honestly. I understand very clearly why they call that party “the graveyard of social movements”.

I’d just like to remind everyone that the Democrats have been in power for SIX WEEKS and your country is in the middle of an unprecedented pandemic and you just barely avoided a fascist insurrection. I’m sorry that Joe Biden hasn’t fixed racism already but he’s got a pretty full plate and he’s trying. Maybe chill the fuck out with the concern trolling.

I swear to fucking Christ, this is why you guys lose elections. Democrats don’t fulfill EVERY promise they made and a lot that they didn’t in the first three weeks and their “supporters” throw up their hands in disgust and spend their nights whining on the internet that they’ll never vote Democrat again because their one pet issue isn’t the most important thing in the world. Meanwhile the Republicans delivered on exactly NOTHING they campaigned on and their supporters will literally kill people to defend the honor of the party.

Good luck, guys. Y'all need it.

Joe Biden more or less told African-American activist leaders to go to hell within like two weeks of being elected, and ever since then the only acknowledgement BLM has received from the Democratic Party has been leading dems complaining that protestors saying “defund the police” made them win less votes.

Like did you even read a single god damn word I said or are you just receiving a script from the DNC that you copy-paste brainlessly? I’m not complaining “Biden hasn’t completely overhauled the police system in the USA in six weeks”, I’m complaining that Biden and the Democratic Party more or less told the African-American activist community to fuck off practically immediately upon being elected. That’s nothing to do with your rehashed “reforms are slow” talking point.

“Democrats don’t fulfill every promise they made” maybe they should consider not promising things they have no intention of doing and then getting pissy when people don’t believe them.

idk just a thought :)

y'all: i love wearing baggy clothes that don't show my form and being completely shapeless!

also y'all: get uncomfortable around muslim women wearing an abaya/jilbab/other loose clothes that do the SAME THING

pandemic addition! i’ve seen a lot of people talk about how they like wearing masks because they feel anonymous/not perceived/”like a ninja” and i know a lot of muslim women have discussed the irony behind mandating masks while banning niqabs, but i better not hear anyone talk about being uncomfortable with niqabis when this is over.
