i think a good jean and rachel relationship-builder-story would have to unpack some of their different feelings about phoenix.
like in a lot of ways phoenix is the mother that didn’t reject rachel where jean did, and she’s also the mother that rachel builds a connection to in jean’s absence. All of rachel’s homage to jean, the ways she tries to honor her dead mom, her connection to her, are tied to phoenix and phoenix’s impersonation of jean (at least early on this changes slightly w time, and rachel’s references to things like marvel girl). but that’s the root of it! phoenix is rachel’s mom even when jean doesn’t want to be, and that connection is mutually forged yknow.
I wish someone would tell this story. So much.
i mean, is Jean even Rachel’s parent at all? On the one hand, yes, because Phoenix fully believed she was Jean (and so did everyone else) and based herself ON Jean (to the extent possible for a cosmic entity). On the other, no, because Phoenix was not actually Jean. Except, back to the first hand - YES, because Jean reabsorbed all of Phoenix’s memories/experiences which means that she basically experiences them AS HER OWN (arguably, depending on who is interpreting those X-Factor stories & Inferno). And then again, NO, because of timeline shenanigans; 616 Phoenix wasn’t 811 Phoenix so those memories/that selfhood doesn’t involve motherhood at all anyway. BUT … etc etc.
Also I just generally want a Rachel story that properly addresses Rachel’s experiences as Phoenix and how having had and lost (or in a less loaded phrasing, no longer having) that role/power/connection affects her life and sense of self now.
(I mean, while I’m asking for a pony, I want Rachel and Kitty to get together, and I kind of want Rachel to be the Phoenix again or part of it or something … but uh … I still remember what it was like for all those years when her character was “‘old and dead in a far future, goodbye to your favorite character forever LOL” so I guess I’ll count my blessings or whatever. I never expected to have her back AND canonically, textually queer.)

Reading comprehension?
I … there are people who read Sarah Gailey’s The Echo Wife and think that the ending was in any way fluffy or wholesome?
i just don’t know what to do with that.

I couldn’t tell what it was at first, but that wasn’t what I was expecting
i thought it was an otter, then i thought it was a shark, and let me say i was wrong both times
There’s literally no way to guess. There’s no way at all to guess
i showed this to my mom, my aunt, my grandma, and the minute the quarantine ends this is going to become my go to dinner party conversation starter

Moose are pretty good swimmers and they swim enough for Orca Whales to pose a significant threat.
My favorite moose fact is the cryptid herd in New Zealand. We know they’re out there, but nobody has seen one in over half a century.
In New Zealand.
Hi I’m sorry. I usually don’t insist that people elaborate on their comments but-
What the everloving fuck are you talking about???
In 1910, a herd of 6 females and 4 males was released in Fiordland. The last confirmed sighting was in 1952, and it was considered marginal territory for them, so it was presumed they had died out.
Until some moose hair was found in 2002.
This lead to extensive searches and installation of automatic cameras - none of which have caught an actual moose, though bedding and rub sites have been found.
The current theory as I understand it is that they’re living off of rich seaweed beds in the area.

NZ moose sighting in early 2020, everything you could want from a cryptid sighting
I just thought it would be funny if…
[Image ID: A full color pen illustration. Pictured from the shoulders up, from left to right, are Jim, Spanish Jackie, and Oluwande. Jim is grinning and wiggling their thumb between their index and middle finger. A speech bubble above their head reads: “Jackie! Jackie, I got your nose.” Jackie is laughing gleefully, her face turned to Oluwande. Her speech bubble reads: Pfft! This kid is hilarious! Oluwande is looking off to the side away from the others, visibly resigned to the strange turn his life has taken. His speech bubble reads: “You guys are friends now… Of course you are…” End ID]
DEFINITELY wait for it!
I would cry so hard I’d feel so blessed
#i like to think data took him all the way to the brig tossed him in and left#and then came back 60 seconds later and was like ‘i believe i have successfully played a ‘practical joke’ on you :)’#riker loses it & claps him on the back like ‘wow. good job u rly had me going. dont ever fucking do that again’ Perfect.
Actually it’s 73 seconds. Data, knowing something of how human minds work, estimates that Riker will give him 60 seconds to come back (because humans prefer “round numbers”, however arbitrary the units). After 60 seconds it will take 4 seconds for Riker to fully process the conclusion that Data is, in fact, not coming back after all, and an additional 9 seconds to build to the optimum level of anxiety.
After all, comedy is timing.
actually it's SO funny because every antagonist who ever goes against sisko immediately becomes almost psychosexually obsessed with him. Dukat had several notebooks with little hearts and the name "Gul Dukat Sisko" scribbed in it. eddington compared them to valjean and javert, literature's greatest gaybait. solok wrote dozens of papers about sisko after one (1) sexually charged drunk wrestling match. benjamin sisko makes every man he comes in contact with go loco and that is canon
they’re so TENDER 🥺

Oluwande: And then, Captain was acting so weird, right? And this Calico Jack goes up and whips Blackbeard right on the balls.
Jim, thinking to themselves for the tenth time that day: I'm gonna f*ck this man silly.
stede + being a little b*tch
just so yall know
art block is your brain telling you to do studies.
draw a still life. practice some poses. sketch some naked people. do a color study. try out a different technique on a basic shape.
art block doesnt stop you from drawing, it stops you from making your drawings look the way you want them to. and thats because you need to push your skills to the next level so you can preform at that standard
think of it as level grinding for your next work.
As a scientific illustrator- this is 100% true and going to review your basics will fix it every goddamn time. Not only does it keep your skills sharp, when you’re not emotionally invested in the final product of a piece, you relax and your brain makes more/better art juice for you. So, when you get back to that big/important piece? You’ll know what to do and how to do it.
Nothing in nature blooms all year round. Rest, and take care of yourself.
i want someone to put this into writer’s blocks now
Writer’s block means you need to relearn the whole alphabet. idiot.
From @rabbiteclairclair : #i was like ‘if that’s the case then what is it for writer’s block’#i am disappointed
You know how all of us have a million drafts of half-or-less finished things on our computers? Those are your writing studies. You can retrun to those at any time (like literally, I’ve picked up things that have been in my drafts for a decade to fiddle with them)
But if none of your prior studies are appealing, you do some writing in a genre or format you usually don’t work in. Character Profiles, Strict 100-word-drabbles, chatfic, epistolary works, historical research, high fantasy self-indulgent nonsense, Smut, a new fandom, goddamn free-verse poetry if you really want to get out there- put your current project down for a nap and go try something new for a bit.
If you’re having art or writing burnout from a lack of energy, you can also just read or look at a different genre than you normally do. Read something our of your regular wheelhouse, go to an art exhibit, go from physical to digital media or vice versa. This also works for either kind of creative Block- Can’t think of where to go with the next chapter of your fic? Go draw a life study. Can’t get an illustration project to look right? Go read a new book.
Sometimes you gotta let your brain do light exercise after a major mental athletic events.
