A comic about the spectrum of responses to stress - we talk alot about the more extreme ends of this and trauma, but the more subtle and every day responses can be harder to spot. if we can understand our own and other’s responses better, problems Are easier to confront and blaming is less likely to happen :) hope it’s helpful!!

A new mode of production arises out of the newly networked masses.

Because shockingly when people enjoy what they do (you make it enjoyable instead of just hammering on them) people WANT to do things!

Where is the button to shout this from the rooftop?

here’s why vine was and will always be superior to tiktok you can’t really spread a lot of misinfo in 6 seconds you had to go viral on the strength of your humor and not on the allure of insane conspiracy theories or MRA talking points it’s why vines legacy will be shit like “back at it at krispy kreme” and not the downfall of democracy

To be clear I am not denying that vines was superior.

But if you think tiktok is the downfall of democracy you're either not paying attention or on the WRONG side of tiktok. There are tons of people over there dedicated to making sure the masses have access to accurate information, exposing corruption, and organizing against fascism. Tiktok is not the problem. For every bad actor there's a good one and as we like to say here at the tumblr dot com: curate your experience.

Reading comprehension quiz (unit 2):

  1. Please summarize the argument of original post in your own words. Is the main point of the post about democracy, or something else? What other issues might the the author be trying to address?
  2. Define hyperbole. Why might the author deploy this rhetorical device here? What features of Tumblr may have encouraged this style of post?
  3. How can algorithms disincentivize or prevent users from fully controlling their experience on social media platforms such as TikTok? How might the architecture of these platforms —including longer-form video options — facilitate radicalization or fringe beliefs? (See Becker, A. (2021, August 24). I Kissed a Girl being knocked off #1 on the Hot 100 by Disturbia which was knocked off by Live Your Life which was knocked off by So What which was knocked off by Womanizer which was knocked off by Single Ladies which was knocked off by Just Dance which was knocked off by My Life Would Suck Without You which was knocked off by Right Round which was knocked off by Poker Face is an insane run of HITS. We really said the Global Recession needs the cuntiest soundtrack.

I have to add that gender euphoria for cis people doesn't always come from like, conforming to your gender in a "stereotypical" way

I've always been very comfortable with my gender but I didn't Really Like being a woman until I cut my hair short and started dressing/presenting more "masculine."

When i realized that I could look "manly" as a woman I truly felt comfortable and really...more "like" a woman. I enjoy being masculine and it strengthens my connection to womanhood and it's just kinda cool

Oh no, that's awful! Wolf attacks are so rare, I wonder what happened?

Oh...

Imagine seeing a wolf pack hunting right in front of you and your reaction is to be all "Oh no le waah le waah I do not vant to see zis!!" Instead of "Holy fucking sheet, that is zee coolést thing I have evéur seen in my entiéure life"

So basically if you make most creatures a size they're usually not it is wrong in some way. A kobold or maybe even a funny doggy the size a building is just too much. Sure there are instances of it happening but it's rare and a source of much wonder confusion for how that happened. Now a dragon. You can basically make a dragon any size you want and it still makes sense. Is it 1 building big? That's normal. Bigger than a small moon? That's nature baby. A mere 3 grapes tall? Well that little critter makes an awful lot of sense now doesn't it? This is because basically dragons are like fish. you wouldn't dare tell a fish what it can and cant do,that would be absurd. the fish woudlnt even hear you because it is too busy chowing down on an delectable detritus it found. and dont even think of saying that to the dragon cause baby, the dragon is the fish's diner buddy and it's chewing louder than a lawn mower caught over a rock! you really should join in you know, its rude to stare

why is this getting notes

because its true

Reblogging again. Firefox is an excellent, safe and fast browser and everyone should consider using it.

Don’t just consider it. If you have the ability to switch to Firefox, this is your official notice to do it.

If you’re saying, “well, I need Chrome because I need such-and-such extension for my job”, the computer will not explode if you install another browser. Use Chrome ONLY for work tasks and use Firefox for everything else. If you’re concerned about losing your bookmarks, Firefox can import your Chrome bookmarks.

[ID: Firefox Library window. The “Import and Backup” panel is expanded, displaying the option, “Import Data from Another Browser”, which is also circled with a red MS Paint ellipse. ID end.]

Forgot a thing. Subscribe to Mozilla VPN for bonus points. It’s basically the only truly secure VPN service in the world right now.

For $5 a month, you can completely conceal your online activities from your ISP in a manner that isn’t just immediately monetised or turned over to the cops. No, it’s not free, it does cost money, but the money doesn’t go to line a billionaire’s pockets.

I wonder how much of this is because of work/school from home forcing people to use Chrome so all their stupid monitoring softwares and platforms can work.

This is also your reminder that you don't have to use just one browser. You can use chrome for all the monitoring bullshit your office wants you to run and use firefox for everything else.

Be sure to add the multi account containers extension to your firefox, which allows you to be logged in to multiple accounts on the same website at the same time in the same window but in different tabs.

look on my five open tumblr accounts (not sideblogs, accounts!) ye mighty and despair.

Firefox is super good, folks. It's good in a general "google shouldn't own everything in the entire fucking world" sense AND in a "this is an actual good product that does lots of cool shit" sense.

ALSO make sure to add the Ublock origin extension on Firefox - I haven't seen a youtube ad in five years and you don't have to either.

While you're at it, why not add the Wayback Machine extension so that if you go looking for a page that has been taken down the wayback machine will automatically offer you an archived version instead; also handy for documenting people's shitty takes and winning arguments after they delete the original post!

Worried that Firefox is going to slow down your computer? In benchmarks, modern versions of chrome and firefox are pretty much the same speed but you can still install the auto tab discard extension ANYWAY so that it will snooze unused tabs in order to keep your computer running faster. Set it to sleep, discard, close, and store tags at your discretion!

And while you're at it: install Firefox as your mobile browser for android and add those extensions to your mobile browser! Mobile adblock is here, baybee, save your data and enjoy a better mobile experience! And install it on iOS! iOS can't add extensions, but at least it's better than safari, and if you want a somewhat more private iOS browsing experience try firefox focus for iOS (which is also available on android but you can accomplish the same thing with extensions).

Anyway, firefox is good.

Also: in January 2023, Chrome is making some changes to plugin architecture that effectively neutering adblockers.  If you want good adblocking, you won’t have it in Chrome.  Use Firefox

(In fairness, some Chrome-derived browsers like Vivaldi and Opera have openly parted ways with Chrome about this, and more power to them, but Firefox is the way to go.)
