Shoutout to systems with uncertain origins!
With something as vast and complex as plurality, it makes sense that many systems may not know or understand how they formed. Not everyone has access to healthcare and support, and many systems are left to just figure things out on their own.
- has a lot of amnesia, so you can’t remember your origins
- doesn’t have a clear idea of how your system formed
- is in denial/struggling to grapple with the reality of your system’s origins
- has some members who know your systems origins and others who don’t
- is questioning, or in the early stages of exploring your plurality
We want to support, encourage, and uplift you! It’s important to remember that it’s okay to not know your system’s origins. Many systems cannot recall how and why their system formed, but that doesn’t make them any less plural or any less of a system!
You are a vital and welcome part of this community, regardless of your origins. It can take years to understand your system, and some go even longer without pinpointing how exactly their systems formed. This is not a process that should be rushed!
What’s more important is building trust and communication between headmates, and ensuring everyone feels safe and empowered. This also takes time, but we truly believe the safety and well-being of your system matters more than the origin labels you use to describe your experience.
We wish you all the best of luck as you continue to learn more about yourselves. Even if you never learn your system’s origins, you still matter, your system matters, and we’re rooting for you!
