"writers deserve attention more than actors" literally only 2% of actors can pay the bills with acting. For every megastar on screen there are a dozen other people in the shot who are SAG. Acting gets so glamorized but there are SO MANY people in SAG who NEED residuals to live on. Background Party Girl #4 needs her check too!!!! There are people who play recurring characters on syndicated shows who cant afford health insurance!!! Ke Huy Quan gave an oscar winning performance and LOST HIS HEALTH INSURANCE the next year.
We are all TOGETHER in this! Writers, performers, IATSE, Teamsters, Electrical Workers, DGA, we’re all in this together. No one deserves anything more than anyone else. No one gets pitted against each other. Solidarity now and forever.
Some of you might remember a couple of years ago when Scarlett Johansson sued Disney because she was making significantly less money for Black Widow than was guaranteed in her contract because so many more people watched it on streaming than in theaters, how there was a massive misinformation campaign from Disney that a ton of people on this website (and Twitter and other social media) bought into: That she was a greedy bitch who didn't respect people who needed to stay at home during the pandemic (I believe the word "ableist" was thrown around with aplomb) as opposed to someone who just wanted to be paid what she was owed. What was literally in her contract!!! And where everyone who took more than a couple minutes to actually look into and think about the situation could figure out that her issue wasn't with streaming itself, but with how little streaming was allowed to get away with paying her and other actors. But of course, a lot of people just saw the chance to dunk on a rich woman, and didn't think about it beyond readying some snarky tags and hit reblog. And in doing so, threw their support behind a much wealthier, greedier studio head who is already using similar language to describe the current strike.
Anyway we're going to see a lot of that from studios now, especially now that actors have joined the WGA and it's easier to sell them as rich and greedy than writers, because of this cultural stereotype we have of all Hollywood actors as celebrities. Don't fall for it. SAG-AFTRA represents people like Tom Cruise and ScarJo but it also represents the kind of people who played a Borg in two episodes of Star Trek: Voyager in 1997 or who had one line in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel as an enthusiastic audience member. Most actors are not crazy wealthy, and in fact, if you're a big TV fan (especially older TV and genre TV) that likely includes some actor names that you know, who played supporting roles in your fav shows, or who were even a star in something decades ago but haven't done anything major since. The AFTRA side also represents people like radio broadcasters. But even beside that, all workers deserve to be fairly compensated for the work they do, and the threat of replacing them with AI, or real actors being required to sign contracts to allow their likenesses to be used by AI forever without paying them, is an existential threat to acting as a profession in general. The actors are in the right. The writers are in the right. The studios are in the wrong. The studios have exploited new technology to get away with horrifying labor practices for years and their feet need to be put to the fire. Circulate the articles about how poorly the Orange is the New Black cast was compensated for making one of the defining shows of the early streaming boom, and of the studios saying they want to force writers to starve and lose their homes. Don't get distracted by propaganda aping progressive-sounding language about wealthy celebrities. Focus on the real enemy, the truly greedy fat cats who care more about money than people and art: the studios.
shooooooot this game looks coool!
I haven’t even played the first one, but I bought Oxenfree and Oxenfree II pretty immediately after seeing this trailer.
jesus fucking christ
"i wish i could do something 😔 / i wish the wga had a kickstarter or a gofundme, i would throw money at it" good news! it's amazing how you can literally go onto the wga strike website or the wgawest linktree from their twitter and find links to support writers and other workers affected by the strike
Imagine actually being so evil that you'd rather make sure your writers suffer financially instead of just paying them the pay they deserve. Hell truly has some seats reserved already, holy shit.
Time to start throwing money at strike funds, y’all.
As someone who’s been on strike, more than once, it’s hard really hard. It’s especially devastating when you know your employer has decided to just walk away from the table
Even if you can’t support financially you can help by keep talking about the strike and showing support for the striking writers
The positive stories an posts online really helped me and my coworkers when we were on strike
Even the people driving by giving the friendly beeps past our picket line helped
The more public support the striking writers (any any striking workers) the more likely they are to succeed in negotiations
One of the benefits of homeschooling is that I can decide when and how I teach my children the important subjects.
Such as how to eat Oreos properly.
My eldest is the kind of heathen who eats it as it is made: like a sandwich. Unlike my youngest, who pulls it apart and eats the creme first like is intended. And then my middle son makes a sort of Big Mac of his, pulling one apart and using it to sandwich the other, which is... its own sort of heathenry, but at least he gets points for departure from the two traditional paths?
Wake up babe a new kind of Oreo heathenry just dropped.
.... You throw out the cream and eat the cookies.
What is WRONG with you. Why pay extra for Double Stuff if you're just going to throw it out???
I’m with @afaroffsong
stick a thin dessert fork inside creme, careful to not separate halves
dunk in milk
et voila, clean fingers
(alternatively, use chopsticks. clean fingers x2!)
So I deeply love Control (2019) and @butchdykeorpheus is playing through it for the first time and boy it's so good watching people react to things like the threshold kids for the first time
dumbstruck by how multi-layered, unique, earwormy, clever, and g o o d everything everything’s music is.
A real treat!
there isn't a "kill all the ____" that will fix the problems of the world, because, 1. you probably can't. 2. if you did, more of them would probably come into existence, or 3. other people would come to fit the same social position. 4. There isn't a group of Fundamentally Bad Evil People that Cause All The Problems, because 5. Harm isn't caused by a type of person. everyone causes harm and an effective system of addressing harm has to contend with that. 6. you will end up expanding the definition of ____ to include whoever else you want to kill anyway. which will suck. 7. Destruction without building will leave nothing behind. New harms will arise. Old harms will continue. Because there is nothing to replace them. There is nothing Helpful being done. a better world isn't created by just getting rid of all the bad stuff and calling it a day. you have to actually make something that meets peoples needs. 8. structures of power and harm sometimes maintain themselves even if no one intends them to or purposefully wants them to. 9. systems of power will end up finding a scapegoat. they will convince you that some marginalized group are the real ____ and you should focus on them. and in your zeal and blood thirst you, or at least some of your allies, will fall for it. And you will commit atrocities. 10. The world that is created can only come from the world that is. And look, whatever group you are thinking of -- yes I mean them too. Pedophiles, rapists, murderers, sociopaths, nazis, billionaires, cops, you name it. Harm and oppression is far too complicated to ever be solved with Finding The Right Group To Kill. And there are lots of really great arguments to be made about why eliminationist rhetoric is ethically bad, or historically questionable, etc. I am open to that being added on and talked about too. But my point is that It Will Not Accomplish Your Desired Results. You Will Have Committed Atrocities and You Will Have Failed At Achieving Your Initial Goal.
knocked on the floor by how unique and how catchy the guitar licks are in this song...
THE PAGES - A scientist rounds up a group of six random individuals to uncover the secrets behind mysterious pages that seem to describe other-dimensional concepts. The group comes to be known as Interlace, both a nod to the way old TVs used to scan pixels and also to the interconnectivity between all forms of reality. Each week they meet in a secluded, white walled room where the scientist reveals a new page he's discovered. It is not clear how he's finding these pages, who's sending them, or if they all together comprise one single text. The deeper the group goes to investigate, the weirder things get. They are meddling with a force of mind melting power. They (and their world) are no longer safe.
man call me crazy or whatever but i'm not very thrilled with the fact that the takeaway that all of y'all are getting from the titanic submarine crisis happening right now is
"People able to spend exorbitantly for some tourist trip thing deserve to die a horrific and torturous death via suffocation after spending 96 hours in mounting dread and awareness of that oncoming reality, all inside a 20 foot long windowless iron casket lost at sea"
and how it isn't
"There is no way in fucking hell that it should be legal to take people into such high-risk environments with zero regulations and shoddy work which almost certainly factored if not is the cause of this crisis to begin with, and the problem isn't that people will spend lots of money on dumb shit, it's that there are companies allowed to prey on that with no oversight"
#I mean I thought we were in favour of killing billionaires and there is a billionaire down there#but the rest of the passengers/crew didn't deserve that#and companies should not be allowed to prey on ppl and kill them i strongly agree
I dunno this whole 'kill billionaires' thing in this scenario is starting to feel less like a call to harm reduction and more like people finding an acceptable bloodsport target. Do people want this guy to die because they actually believe that his asphyxiation at the bottom of the ocean would somehow improve the world, or because they want to be entertained by somebody 'deserving' dying in a horrible way and billionaires are an acceptable target? Had anyone calling for his death actually heard of the guy before this? Have any idea what he does apart from own companies? People just hear 'billionaire' and think 'it's fun for rich idiots to die horribly'.
I suppose, at the end of the day, a Director’s most basic duty is to keep the lights on.
