we really can’t overstate how damaging it has been to indoctrinate the public with the idea that if they let themselves eat as much as they want, they’ll eat too much. human bodies, when permitted over the long term to eat as much as they want, actually get really, really good at calibrating their hunger and satiety, and will over time eat exactly the right amount for themselves. the common conception of a balanced eater as a minimal or restrained eater is absolutely wrong. balanced eaters eat quite a lot (compared to diet cultural ideas about right intake amounts), and they do so consistently and permanently. healthy, balanced eating isn’t some tightrope walk, it’s a gigantic net of total permission to eat.

I was driving my car to work. I am a good driver. I have no at-fault accidents in my history. I was hit by a drowsy driver that was later charged with DWI and I still ended up with permanent disability from this.
I stood up from a chair. I was sitting at a table in my work’s break room eating my lunch and stood to throw away my trash and clock in and my knee buckled underneath me and I spent three months completely non-weight-bearing on that leg and even still today there are things I can’t do anymore due to this.
It doesn’t matter if you eat right, sleep right, drive right, work right, only have sex with the right people, only purchase the right things.
Anything can happen to you. You are always 5 seconds away from becoming disabled for the rest of your life.
I have always been disabled. I haven’t always been this disabled.
it is genuinely obnoxious how like. 99 percent of people online don't seem to realize that a strike and a boycott are in fact completely separate actions, with completely different purposes.
i remember a while back disney employees were having a walkout and so many people were like "don't watch the owl house or whatever, stand in solidarity! don't cross the picket line!" and besides the fact that so many people don't seem to realize that "don't cross the picket line" ONLY refers to scabs who replace striking workers jobs and not consumers at all, the disney employees did not ask anyone to boycott in solidarity. everyone's first instinct when they see a walkout online is to boycott but you don't need to do that unless the workers striking specifically ask you that. i promise you.
i remember netflix employees were having a walkout and people on twitter were like "DON"T BE A SCAB, DON"T CROSS THE PICKET LINE! DON"T WATCH NETFLIX TODAY" which not only isn't an understanding of what "don't cross the picket line" means but simply not watching netflix isn't enough, you have to actually cancel you're subscription or it's otherwise more than useless.
when the media uses phrases like “the union is demanding higher pay” they want you to think hey wait i wish i got paid better you’re telling me these whiny writers are refusing to work? i’m way worse off than them and i still go in to work every day!
