Happy Monday everyone. I have not posted here in a while. I intended to start doing so again! I have been doing some cool work with WeWork, including making them some nice .gifs. Here’s a favorite. Enjoy your Monday morning caffeinated beverage of choice.

Hi everyone! I’m gearing up for the release of Knife’s Edge, our 2nd graphic novel (written by Hope Larson and drawn by me), which will be in stores on the 27th of June!

This weekend, June 16-18th, in Charlotte, NC, I will be back at Heroescon to debut Knife’s Edge! Table AA-1111, which is the greatest table number I’ve ever had. I will have the first book, Compass South, in paperback, as well as a select amount of Knife’s Edge! Be the first to own it!

And as a special treat, Hope Larson will be tabling with me on Saturday, the 17th! We can sign books together and celebrate finally having both books printed. We’ve worked hard over the past 3 1/2 years to make these books, and I couldn’t be more proud.

Come say hi, and check out my other comics too--Old Woman, my Yuri on Ice fanbook, and my Poe Dameron fanbook! I’ll have prints of my illustrations for sale too!

Clique BBC Three

I’ve been really behind on posting to tumblr, aah! I promise it’s because I’ve been working on some very cool secret stuff. This assignment was a nice break!

I made this set of three gifs for the BBC Three show Clique. I really enjoyed making them, and indeed watching the show--it’s glitzy and pulpy, but I found myself instantly sympathetic to their struggles, and I found their complex relationships so intriguing! Thanks, BBC!

Death Book Pop-Up Magazine, March 2nd, NYC

A recent project I worked on was this series of illustrations, animated and no, for a short nonfiction piece by Rachel Monroe for Pop Up Magazine. The story is about the author’s mother, who collects phrases from the obituary section of the newspaper in a little black notebook. It’s a therapeutic ritual.

Pop Up Magazine is a one-night show, each one unique, performed in cities across the US. This story and my work (projected behind the reader, on-stage) were only seen once. I’m really impressed with Pop-Up for the amount of coordination that must go into putting these shows together, and it was really fun to work with them on this.

Ypu can read a short interview I did about the process for these pieces here:http://www.folioart.co.uk/illustration/folio/archive/12190

Recently I worked with Passion Pictures on their production of the 2016 LoL Worlds trailer. I was tasked with painting the backgrounds for the ending scene--a gamer character's bedroom and gaming space. We wanted to capture a sense of a sun-drenched, cozy space. This was my first time painting backgrounds in a while, so I'm really proud of how these turned out.

Here is the cover piece I did for the NYT Book Review, featuring their picks for the “10 Best Books of 2016″. The concept I went for was “here is a bounty of reading”, presented like a classic still-life. I was sent the book jackets to use as reference, but had to arrange the still life using my own books. I took a lot of ref photos and also painted directly from a set-up in my studio. It came together quite nicely! I also painted a bit of extra leaves and berries for the interior.

The animation was its own challenge! I painstakingly drew each frame (using some of my own footage as ref), though I used the photoshop transform-tool to get the page text to look smooth(ish).

Thanks AD Matthew Dorfman!

I’m going to be at SPX!! I drew the badge art for exhibitors this year, and I’ll be on an all-ages comics panel on Saturday. My table is H5-A, find me!

I’ll have Compass South and the NEW, FINAL EDITION of Sky//Wings, my Poe Dameron fan zine, as well as plenty of prints, posters, postcards, and a patch.

gosh, it feels like I don’t do anything but draw my cartoon face for these con maps anymore! I try to use a different style each time. 2016 is con year. I’m working on new stuff, too, but I can’t share any of it yet!! stay tuned.

FLAMECON 2016! TABLE 139 !!!!!!!!!!!!

I’ll be at Flamecon this weekend in Brooklyn, NY! I’ll have 2 DEBUT pieces of merch: --SKY // WINGS: A Poe Dameron Fanzine based on the writings of Leupagus --the GENGHIS KHAN patch, based on the shoulder-patch from the music video!

I have been looking forward to this show all summer, and I CAN’T WAIT to show off my new comics and goodies!! As well as Compass South, of which I’ll have 20 shiny copies!

I’ll be tabling with my dear friend and cohort Olivia Gulin, and we’ll be cosplaying Genghis Khan on one of the days (TBA), so get excited about that!!

Responsibility Report 2016 JetBlue

I was asked by JetBlue to do a series of comics about the outreach programs they’ve had during 2015. Together we created this series which they put into their Responsibility Report for 2016 (they were placed with expanded stories detailing each program, which is why the comics themselves don’t all go into much detail). It was really fun to use my comics skills to tell real stories about inspiring people.

This is the cover image I painted for the newest issue of Dirty Diamonds! Issue 7: Imagination is a an ALL-GIRL comic anthology featuring over 60 artists, many of whom are my dear friends and all exceptionally talented. The >>KICKSTARTER<< (also linked above) ends in 4 days, and it’s SO CLOSE to being funded. Please consider pledging! Most of the funds will go towards paying the artists, which is why the goal is so high. Your pledge helps 60 amazing female comic creators pay their rent.

I really enjoyed painting this. I wanted to create a bold, simple composition with bright blue as the main color. Painting water is very satisfying.

I had the honor to be a part of the Ham4Pamphlet project, a fan made artbook illustrating all 46 tracks of the Hamilton Musical. I illustrated track 2: Aaron Burr, Sir–since the track states it takes place in “1776, New York City”, and historically there was a great fire that same year, I thought it appropriate to make the backdrop a city in flames (like my heart, each time I listen).

You can read about the project and see more of the artwork here: [[Ham4Pamphlet project]]

Thanks Arielle for including me, and congratulations to all the artists on some stunning fan art!

Btw, if you want to see more fan art by me, follow my fan art tumblr: @procrusher

Guys guess what! Remember how I draw comics in addition to making sweet GIFs and dumb fanart? Well, this Saturday I'm PREMIERING my graphic novel Compass South, written by my amazing collaborator Hope Larson, illustrated by me! If you are in or near Portland, Maine, consider coming to MECAF--a FREE comics show, held at the Portland Public Library, Saturday June 4th, from 10-5. I'll be there with 30 advance copies of Compass South and a nervous smile on my face! I'll have prints and postcards for sale as well!

Sorry for the image-heavy post, but I wanted to share these and I’ve fallen behind with my posting, hehe! I illustrate for a weekly podcast for the New Yorker, and each week I’m brought a new and interesting topic. The deadlines are tight so I have to experiment with new ways to create an image quickly, and it’s chance to try out different styles too. It’s refreshing!
