You know what I love about those Heartstopper boys?
It would have been so easy to turn it into a "big rugby-lad hero swoops in to save the spindly, insecure Year Ten," but that's not how the story goes at all.
Alice keeps them both on equal footing. Charlie's issues may be more blatant than Nick's, but Nick leans on Charlie just as much as Charlie leans on Nick, and both of them are equally able to handle it.
Nick approaches the world with an outward confidence, but really he spends a lot of effort on molding himself to suit the people around him, whereas Charlie tends to be more naturally assertive about stating his own opinions and desires in the moment, only to panic and feel guilty about everything later.
Through their interactions with one another, Nick learns how to be firm in his own character, confidently stating what he wants out of life, instead of what is expected. And Charlie learns that he doesn't need to apologize for his own feelings and needs.
The beautiful way they grow together and also help one another to become more complete as individuals just... well...
