helping to make posts accessible. pls try to read faq and about before asking !

latest update!

hi all, with lockdowns taking their toll on my energy and with tumblr saviour becoming harder to use without breaking post formats and making them even less accessible, this blog has become quite inactive :( [sad face]

unfortunately there isnt currently a great way to edit posts on tumblr so i will be leaving that for now and focusing on what i and others are able to do: captioning

i’ll be sharing already captioned posts and trying to add captions too when im able

captioning images, videos and screencaps is something so many of us are able to do, so please help normalise this and add them when you can - or look in the notes for a captioned version and reblog that instead!

thanks for your time :) [smiley face]

here are some similar blogs helping out with accessibility!

list will be updated when new blogs are found, and feel free to let me know any that arent here:

A photoset of several tweets. The conversation begins with a tweet from matt @Lubchanksy that reads: the US is obviously hurtling into a serious "gender critical" movement and frankly i have no idea how we're supposed to combat it given that almost nobody who isn't trans seems to give a shit or notice Death and the Emperor @OrionDBlack responds: Aight imma spit real quick and hope that my FBI agent doesn't turn my phone off. /j Let's talk real quick. I kinda miss the slogan "all power to all the people". Because "all the people" means EVERYONE. It's inclusive. It implies that the work of deconstructing our isms is how we empower ourselves and are able to then collect under mutual interest. All power to all the people yall. During that time, and the time that followed, the government dedicated themselves to wedging as much bullshit between our groups as possible. Crack. AIDS. Model minorities. Super predators. It just goes on and on. It's just straight facts that our government is experienced in disrupting and assaulting leftist movements. All of it is on public record. Our own country is included in the collective that have been broken down and "readjusted" for the benefit of white supremacy and capitalism. The good thing is that we know we're getting closer, cuz they're scared. The bad thing is that we lose lives and are pushed a few steps back. Trans people are more of a target now than we were before, and it was already bad. Disabled people. PoC. The intersections therein. Every time class consciousness gets a little bit closer to being realized, shit like this comes out in full force. We see BLM being branded as ultra violent. We see gender critical movements get a massive flux of support. We see how disabled people are basically being euthanized. There was a moment in Black History around the Civil Rights movement where there was a currently-unimaginable amount of coalition building. It is truly amazing to me that a letter from the Panthers talking about queer rights was signed by Mexican, Chinese, Black etc activists. Anyway. Just do what you can. Just surviving in a revolutionary act. If you can do more, do so. We'll figure this shit out somehow.

thread says:

ATTN: ANYONE WITH NO HEATING OR POWER CURRENTLY

I know it's cold, I have some tips for you, thanks to having been through this before, many times.  (spool of thread emoji)

Please RT the thread if you know anyone without power currently! (black heart emoji)

-Choose 1 room to inhabit -Move all furniture to external walls -Move your mattress to the center of the 1 room -Block pets from leaving that room, put all needs in it -If your fridge is warming up, put all perishable items in a trash bag and place outside, form snow around -If you have plants, move them in the room with you -If you have a small space heater, move it in the room with you -Hang thick blankets or large towels in all the windows -If a sunny day arrives before power, open curtains when sun hits directly, then put back up -Wear multiple layers of clothing -If your pets are too cold, put socks on their feet and/or clothing you have that fits them -roll clothing or towels and block all door and window gaps -Throw all your dirty clothes on the floor, covering every space you can

Your body heat will warm that room if you remain in ONLY that room.  You want to use anything you can to add insulation between you, and the outside.  Hence covering and blocking all floors, windows, and walls.  Now isn't the time to have a clean house, it's the time to survive.

Late addition thanks to a friend of mine:

If you have, or can get, bubble wrap, tape that to all windows, as it creates a kind of double insulation!

with both covid-19 + the primaries going on I’ve heard ppl say some truly awful stuff about “boomers” as if all old people are rich conservative white men who deserve to be wiped out, so I drew up this graphic feat. stories of some of the elders I’ve met through work and activism.

“boomer” is not a coherent class. now more than ever it is imperative that the working class stands together, while celebrities sing silly songs in their mansions we must organize to meet community needs, regardless of age we are all comrades in the same fight!

The flip side of this is the spring break give no shit young people are also not representative of their entire generation. You know what they are? Rich.

image description: two graphics with red and yellow background and text color schemes, and full color illustrations. the first is titled “Elders are not our enemy: Working class solidarity with all generations!” and has illustrations of 3 elders:

1. a Black woman with gray streaks in her hair, glasses, and a green cardigan, looking down with a tired expression. beside her, a text box reads:

- has worked at the same store for decades and never been promoted

- knows more than the boss but will never be paid what her labor is worth

- works multiple low-wage jobs to support children and grandchildren

2. a partially bald Asian man in a light blue shirt and tan jacket, raising a wooden cane with an angry/frustrated expression. beside him, a text box reads:

- has been protesting since the Vietnam War

- goes to city meetings to advocate against fascist local policy

- cannot believe we’re still dealing with this shit

3. a woman with short, curly black hair and brown skin, wearing a maroon shirt. her expression is concerned. beside her, a text box reads:

- lives on a fixed income

- new company bought her retirement community and wants to raise rent

- afraid she will end up homeless or have her heat shut off and die

the second graphic has faces of people of various ages, genders, and races with the text “Generational politics can not replace class analysis: We are stronger together! No war but class war!” end image description.

“It’s disability pride month, and did you know disabled people in the US with Medicaid are not allowed to have more than $2,000 in money and assets combine, or else we’ll lose our often life-saving health insurance? 🙃 Don’t fucking tell me forced poverty isn’t A Thing TM.

“Did you know disabled people in many countries (including the US and UK) can’t get married or often even live with their partner because it causes a massive decrease (or removal entirely) of their disability benefits? Which should only make sense to you if you’re a eugenicist. 🙂

“Did you know it’s still 100% legal to pay workers with disabilities less than minimum wage? 🙂

“Did you know disabled people with Covid are dying because they’re being denied care to save resources? A disabled man in Texas was denied care (and food) in hospital for six. Days. Doc told his wife that, since he was disabled, he didn’t have a quality of life worth saving…

“Did you know that disabled people fought for ages to get accessible accommodations for work, school, medical care? Did you know we were told it was impossible to work from home, impossible to attend school from home, impossible to have telecom doctor appointments? …

”…Did you know these were all sorted and made available within a month of abled people needing them after the onset of the pandemic? Did you know now that states are opening back up, these accessibility accommodations are being revoked for many? 🙂

“Happy Disability Pride Month.”

The inherent fucking racism/xenophobia in the “Save Christmas” rhetoric?????
They imposed lockdowns twice right before Eid, countless Hindu, Jewish, Buddhist and more holidays went by in lockdown and now that its Christmas it’s somehow more important?
People out there telling all of us that our holidays and religions don’t matter and we have to step up for society (which we did btw) are now going “oh no not Christmas whatever will we do??”
Now that it’s your holiday you finally pay attention?
Fuck off. We could have been careful and ended this months ago but y’all decided to play around until it came to Christmas.
The government deciding to not give a shit about Eid but decide to “protect Christmas” tells you everything you need to know.

image description: a mobile screenshot of a tweet by twitter user is this thing on? / @youdamnskippy made at 12:51 PM on November 9th, 2020 that reads "When y'all talk about food deserts, make sure y'all talk about how corporations purposely turn black neighborhoods into food swamps too." below the tweet is a picture of a screenshot of a Google search that contains an image of a road lined with fast food restaurants into the distance including a burger king, a mcdonald's, and a taco bell, and a description that reads, "A food swamp is an area where an abundance of fast food, junk food outlets, convenience stores, and liquor stores outnumbers healthy food options. It's distinct from a food desert, which is a neighborhood with little access to affordable, nutritious food." end of image description.

you’re so young and you have so much time.
life is longer than you think, and there will be time for you to do everything.
if you lost your youth to mental illness or abuse, your life isn’t over.
you can do everything you missed out on, and more.
if you’re losing your youth right now, there will be time for you to do the things you want to do.
it’s gonna be okay, you still have time.

i know criticizing the south as being backwards and regressive is all the rage right now, but actually the south is home to some of the most visionary, radical, progressive activists in the whole damn country and yes i will die on this hill.
georgia flipping blue is a testament to those activists and hopefully gives you a taste of just how important this work is, and how these southern organizations need our support now more than ever.
people who live in progressive/liberal areas need to stop scapegoating the south and start working with us for our collective liberation.
what happened in georgia is great, but it’s unfair to rely on the most marginalized to save us (white people) from ourselves.
on that note, hey fellow white people! we didn’t invent white supremacy, but we inherited it. it’s up to us to demolish it, and fall in line with BIPOC-led organizations who are doing the work.
you can (and should) help even if you don’t live in the south.
here’s a list of southern organizations doing great work and how to donate to support them.
  • [link: Fair Fight]. “We promote fair elections in Georgia and around the country, encourage voter participation in elections, and educate voters about elections and their voting rights.” [link: Donate here].
  • [link: Southerners on New Ground (SONG)]. “SONG is a home for LGBTQ liberation across all lines of race, class, abilities, age, culture, gender, and sexuality in the South. We build, sustain, and connect a southern regional base of LBGTQ people in order to transform the region through strategic projects and campaigns developed in response to the current conditions in our communities.” [link: Donate here.]
  • [link: Gideon’s Army]. “Our mission is to act collectively, boldly and strategically as a unified force for all children. We eliminate the root causes of the prison pipeline, save our children from death and incarceration and guide them on a secure path to success.” [link: Donate here.]
  • [link: Free Hearts]. “A Tennessee state-wide organization led by formerly incarcerated women that provides support, education, and advocacy in organizing families impacted by incarceration, with the ultimate goals of reuniting families and keeping families together.” (Has also been doing a lot of work recently helping formerly incarcerated folks vote for the first time!)
  • [link: Project South]. “A Southern-based leadership development organization that creates spaces for movement building.” [link: Donate here.]
  • [link: Southern Movement Assembly.] “An organizing strategy for community and movement governance…We believe that we are stronger together, and we participate in grassroots democracy to exercise political power at the community, city, state, and regional levels.” [link: Donate here.]
  • [link: Black Voters Matter.] “To increase power in marginalized, predominantly Black communities. Effective voting allows a community to determine its own destiny.” [link: Donate here.]
  • [link: The Equity Alliance.] “A Nashville-based grassroots non-profit advocacy group that seeks to equip citizens with tools and strategies to engage in the civic process and empower them to take action on issues affecting their daily lives.” [link: Donate here.]
if you know of great southern orgs, especially if they’re local to you, please add them!
if you live in the south and don’t know of any orgs, i guarantee there is a stacey abrams doing great work near you.
get engaged with local efforts for equality!

the-marxist-mash:
[ID: meme taken from the scene in Spongebob where Sandy goes after the Alaskan Bull Worm, and thinks she beat it up, but Spongebob informs her that what she really beat up was just the worm’s tongue, with the camera panning out to reveal she is standing in its enormous gaping mouth.
This has been edited so that Sandy is labeled “liberals” and the worm’s tongue is labeled “Trump.”
In this version, Sandy says “We did it! We beat fascism!” Spongebob, from behind a rock, says “that wasn’t fascism.” Sandy asks, “oh yeah, then where’s fascism?”
Then the camera pans back revealing the giant worm whose mouth Sandy’s standing in, which is labeled “the legal framework of the US constitution that protects exploiters and an economy dependent upon military backed hegemony for corporate expansion around the globe.”]

If you're celebrating Biden's win, consider celebrating by donating to a bail fund, planned parenthood, or the Navajo Water project.

Your action to help the marginalized shouldnt end at presidential candidates and voting.

ok so now the libs are going to start ruthlessly criticizing biden right?
they said “we can’t criticize biden or harris because it could hurt their chances in the election but we will criticize them to hell and back after the election and push them left”
so they’re gonna make good on that now right?
gonna acknowledge that joe biden and kamala harris feed the us war machine and the prison industrial complex and are enemies of the marginalized?
gonna “hold them accountable” whatever that means?
they’re gonna do that now right?

Remember that Trump is still president until January 21, and this period of his presidency is called the lame duck period. It is incredibly likely he will do his absolute worst during this time, as Trump is still able to do everything he could during his presidency, such as issuing executive orders, etc. I think we should probably prepare or at least be aware and understand that he really could push through as much executive orders and legislation as possible, especially considering the majority Republicans hold in the house and senate. During this period, legislators usually stop listening to the lame duck president so much since they have limited time left, but I don’t think that will happen given the circumstances. Trump WILL call for more violence, his supporters WILL use some form of violence in the coming days, and I can almost promise you he WILL try to push through as much as possible in the next few months. It is not over yet. He has time to inflict more damage before the inauguration.

As if 2020 couldn't get worse, it appears Netflix has a new movie coming out based on billionaire JD Vance's book "Hillbilly Elegy" ( both book and movie having the same name). I can not stress this enough; do NOT watch it. Its incredibly offensive to the Appalachian region and one sided.

It's supposed to be based on Vance's life growing up in Appalachia, only hes never lived here and is using one of America's poorest communities to make more money! The book/movie also blames "social rot," or the culture of Appalachia, and a lack of personal responsibility for the region's conservative politics. (When in reality we aren't even that conservative!) He's basically implying that systemic poverty is because the people in the region are "lazy" and that this should be a wake up call for why government funded projects shouldn't be wasted in the region.

Its a complete waste of time. Appalachia is poor because we're built from coal mines and once the mines dry up so do the towns. It has nothing to do with being lazy. Also yes, there is a drug problem in the region but it isn't as bad as this movie/book makes it out to be.
